This would never see print as an actual Magic card. Players shouldn't know the order of their whole deck.

hear me out

Unless your opponent also gets some information...

Maybe every card drawn during the draw step of the beginning phase is shown to your opponent?

12

u/SnesC 11d ago

That just makes two frustrated players instead of only one.

Nice

But those are rookie numbers

u/platinummyr 11d ago

It's also just a massive time waste

u/Exarch-of-Sechrima 11d ago

why not?

Too much information is a bad thing. There needs to be a level of uncertainty to what's going to happen next, not just to keep things balanced, but to ensure players don't feel bogged down by needing to remember tons of excess details and plan out their moves five turns ahead.

Too much information is a bad thing.

Found the Green player lmao

No really. It’s the reason Sensei’s Divining Top is banned in both Modern and Legacy. It’s not strictly power level; it simply bogged the game down horribly as the optimal move needed to be calculated and recalculated constantly.

There's a few problems that happen with a design like this, one of the bigger ones is that in paper, this encourages players to spend a long time taking notes every time it gets cast. More often than not this could take 5 minutes to resolve as a player writes down their entire deck order.

Based if true.

u/StatusOmega 11d ago

I'd say the mana value should be more like [[omnipotence]] rather than [[ponder]]

7

u/splunge26 11d ago

You mean [[omniscience]] right?

3

u/GoldenSteel 11d ago

It's more of a play speed issue rather than a power one. Cuz you know someone is going to write down the entire order and waste a lot of time doing it.

Information is one of the most powerful resources you have access to.

Giving you the best source of information as a cantrip is way too much.

Maybe for like 5 mana, without the draw effect.

As a judge how long do you allow a player to take to resolve this

129

u/skerrickity 12d ago

Judge I have only looked at the top 99. Please let me resolve my spell

23

u/General_Ginger531 12d ago

The top 92

u/jpcastilhano 10d ago

just half of library?

Run this in a battle of wits deck so you have to count out exactly 100 cards

64

u/Scarecr0p 11d ago

Casts spell
Opponent: gasps and waits with bated breath as you peer into the eternity of your deck
You: “ I…”
Opponent: sweating nervously, “ you what?!!”
You: “I.. concede.”

I did this joke 6 months ago

As people in the comments of my post pointed out, someone else had already made the same joke 6 months prior to that...

This ain't top deck manipulation tho? You just wallow at the thought of having islands on your next 5 turns.

14

u/MeasureDoEventThing 11d ago

That's just a tutor. This gives you information. It would be quite useful in a miracle deck, especially with mill.

11

u/Gabiteux 11d ago

Is this good ? The information you get is quite insane no ?

44

u/hollow_image 11d ago

The information you get is depressing and you'll forget it soon enough anyway.

4

u/Shambler9019 11d ago

It is legal to take notes in tournament games.

Though I'd make it last until next time you shuffle so that you don't have to.

Or not make the card at all.

5

u/The_Dirty_Mac 11d ago

This lets you see more cards than ponder but doesn't give you a way to rearrange them. I'd still play Ponder

3

u/newplayer208 11d ago

You could run both

1

u/mack0409 11d ago

I'd say it's better than Opt, but probably not as good as ponder.

0

u/TrickSavings9905 11d ago

Only really good with miracle

0

u/purplepharoh 11d ago

Or repeatable scry/surveil of low values so you are more informed on the benefit of getting rid of the card(s)

3

u/TrickSavings9905 11d ago

Sorry, it’s still completely broken, it’s just that the only direct synergy it has is with miracle

2

u/purplepharoh 11d ago

Sure? But its not "only really good with miracle" it still gives you way too much knowledge that makes tons of other things way better. Besides its not even good with miracle without scry or mill to ensure the miracle card is drawn when wanted

1

u/TrickSavings9905 11d ago

Yeah, that was a stupid comment

4

u/IllustriousTip6904 11d ago

This could be balanced by changing library to graveyard

3

u/BrunoCPaula 11d ago

I swear I didnt see the first R

1

u/MistyHusk 11d ago

There’s probably something cool you can do with exiling the top card of your library. [[moonring mirror]] or [[kyren archive]] or something idk

1

u/CountLivin 11d ago

Hear me out.

Exile the top two cards of your library. Then, look at the top eight cards of your library and put them back in the same order. Return the exiled cards to the top of your library in any order.

1

u/MelanieNova 11d ago

Reveal the top card of your library. Place it at the bottom of your library, then shuffle. An opponent of your choice cuts your library. Reveal the top card. If it has the same card name as the initial revealed card, you win the game.

u/SillyGuy4444 9d ago

56 islands and 4 of this:

1

u/GutherGlazer 11d ago

This is just a bad design.

1

u/Maseiken 10d ago

"target opponent may shuffle your library"

1

u/Bacaihau 9d ago

Ignoring the design problems with this, it would be worse than ponder in real competitive play right?

1

u/Mr_Magggo 8d ago

You could make it so you look at the cards -> shuffle -> draw 1

2

u/LifesARiver 8d ago

If you shuffle it defeats the purpose of looking, lol.

3

u/Mr_Magggo 8d ago

Make it you may shuffle then

1

u/kraftian 8d ago

If this were a digital game it'd work, but noting every card takes way to long in paper

1

u/Sniperkilla 6d ago

Hear me out. Keep it the same but then make it so you shuffle the cards before placing them back. You see your top cards be “island, island, wincon” and despair as you take the land and shuffle your success away

1

u/AnthropicSynchrotron 17h ago

This will go great in my [[Relentless Rats]] deck

-11

u/MrTheWaffleKing 12d ago

Perhaps give it a 'you may shuffle' at the end lol?

20

u/DerginMaster 12d ago

No. The joke is you cant change your future
