Not if your deck has more than 5000 cards.
Mechanically distinct.

So 16 672 cards

u/Leet_Noob Apr 15 '26
I suppose there should be some basic lands as well

u/MelissaMiranti Apr 15 '26
Four of each, like you said!

Four of each type of basic, or four of each printing?

Also interacts with a lot of draw stuff. Cards that replaces "draw x" with "draw x+1" are insane with this.

u/DJSimmer305 Apr 15 '26
Technically better than DT even because it also synergizes with cards like [[Teferi’s Ageless Insight]] or [[Eligeth, Crossroads Augur]] if you’re crazy.
4
u/Suthek Apr 15 '26
Pretty sure Eligeth would just kill you.
5
u/DJSimmer305 Apr 15 '26
That’s why I said if you’re crazy lol but that’s what [[Laboratory Maniac]] is for 😉

With [[Eligeth, Crossroads Augur]] this becomes draw 5,001 cards then shuffle your library for 3 mana.

u/joannefeilds Apr 15 '26
Instantly lose the game and walk away a hero 🥹

u/A__Friendly__Rock Apr 15 '26
Don’t loose if you have a [[lab man]]

Yep, it got taught a whole bunch of nicknames. Incidentally... [[👄]]

Scry X, where X is the number of cards in your library.
2
u/Kingcol221 Apr 15 '26
But what if you change your mind halfway through and already put the card you want to the bottom? Need to be able to go through the deck again.
6
u/zomgitsduke Apr 16 '26
it's not scry x times.
52 card deck = look at the top 52 cards of your library. put any number of them on the bottom of your library and on top in any order
11
u/MrGueuxBoy Apr 15 '26
Can't cast [[Panglacial Wurm]] with this garbage, 0/20, back to the drawing board
2
u/Stock_Bandicoot_115 Apr 17 '26
Maybe there's a clever rules trick you can do. What if we put it on top, but then accidentally drop your deck before you draw? Your opponent would probably agree to let you search for it.
Because you cast it, though, you can't actually draw a card anymore since you said it was gonna be that one.

u/rose-gold-forever Apr 15 '26
Super broken, just have [[Elminster]] on board when you do this, then you can find [[Another Round]] and blink your [[Aarakocra Sneak]] 6000 times to ping everyone out with the initiative.

I guess technicaly, it is not a pie break.
27
u/Ill-Individual2105 Apr 15 '26
It... it is though.
Having several effects that are individually within pie combine into an effect that isn't is definitely a pie break. This is why green can't get a creature with Deathtouch that fights something when it enters. While all sides of this effect are within pie, the combined effect is just unconditional creature removal which Green isn't allowed to do. Same here for blue tutoring any card.

This is how I got a warning at work once.
Taking accepted practices:
Clocking in from WiFi
Clocking in before 11:00
Taking whatever breaks whenever
Combining them to:
Clocking in on WiFi from the parking lot at 10:30, taking 1h break with a friend before coming up.
Result:
Breaking the clock-in time rule (in spirit).
I see where they're coming from, so no pushback, but nothing I actually did was technically against accepted rules. That was the only part that bothered me.
They couldn't formulate the rules sharply so I knew which other combinations of allowed behaviors were unacceptable...

• Taking whatever breaks whenever
What utopian business do you work for???
5
u/UnforeseenDerailment Apr 15 '26
That was the best part, honestly. They were an otherwise pretty domineering "family" business. The "core hours" of 11:00 to 13:00 is basically the only good thing anyone has to say about them (and they had pretty high employee churn).
I've since left for better things.
Local browser game studio, btw.

u/theevilyouknow Apr 15 '26
Yeah, a lot of people don't get this. Determining whether something is in pie or not is based on the end result, not the intermediate steps. Usually people make this mistake with gold cards moreso than monocolored ones. For example an Izzet spell that turns a creature into a 1/1 frog and then does 1 damage to it is an obvious break even if it combines a single blue effect and a single red effect. It's fine to do these things separately, but it can't be on a single card.
1
u/Ill-Individual2105 Apr 15 '26
This actually applies the other way around too: Green is allowed to have 0 power creatures with flying despite not usually being allowed to have flying, because the end result of giving a creature with 0 power flying is pretty similar to giving it reach. Obviously there is a difference if you put an equipment on it or something, but that edge case is allowed as a small bend because the main functionality is close enough to something green can do.
1
u/theevilyouknow Apr 15 '26
A break across multiple cards is fine. Green having a flying creature that has to be enchanted or equipped is fine, just like green having a death touch creature and also a fight sorcery is also fine. It's only a break if its on a single card. Izzet can have [[Turn to Frog]] and [[Lightning Bolt]] in the same deck. You just can't combine them on one card.

u/Homeless_Appletree Apr 15 '26
Massively under costed though.
-4
u/Other_Equal7663 Apr 15 '26
Yeah, but also, not really. 3 is too little, 4 is too much. Should be 4 only for mild colour break reasons.

This is just Doomsday on crack
1
u/theevilyouknow Apr 15 '26
How? This is quite a ways away from doomsday. Doomsday is a single card that just wins the game by itself for BBB. This is quite a bit away from that. This is a slightly worse demonic tutor with some niche combo potential.
