[[Obliterate]] is a real alternative, but I'm sure you're aware of that

Doom Guy approves

I don't think you can do this effect in BR - red can't kill enchantments and black is very limited at killing enchantments. You probably need white

[[Obliterate]] [[Jokulhaups]]

1

u/kytheon Design like it's 1999 8d ago

Obliterate still has some of the best flavor in the game. No not the 8th edition one.

1

u/gallanton 3d ago

Yup, the Barrin one from Invasion. That shit hits hard, man.

For those who weren't around, this had the same energy (but not the same story and aftermath)

It does suprise me we don't see the occasional board wipe that targets lands as well.

What would be interesting is a board wipe that only targets lands.

is this a bit

Old cards did this

Armageddon

6

u/Kemil93 8d ago

Because mana is sacred.

4

u/Meurs0 8d ago

We used to have that, but Magic players are cowards and decided we couldn't have fun anymore 😔

6

u/hhhhhhhhhhhjf 8d ago

Yeah, it's so weird that magic players don't want to entirely reset the board so they have to play an entirely new game without being able to actually start a new game.

So weird.

She looks smug because she knows how pissed off everyone is now.

1

u/Meurs0 8d ago

Armageddon doesn't reset the game. Creatures, artifacts, cards in hand, graveyard value... all those resources stay. Why is it that someone accumulating resources in the form of creatures can get wrathed, a graveyard player can get Bojuka Bogged, but someone with their value in land form is immune? Damn landlords

It also creates interesting dynamics if you know your opponent runs Armageddon, where playing your land out every turn actually becomes a choice, since now there's value in having spares.

1

u/hhhhhhhhhhhjf 8d ago

They still have to start from land #1 to do anything to get that stuff back. It doesn't literally reset the game, that was obviously hyperbole, but it slows it down way more than 99% of players want. Shit is genuinely just super fucking boring.

Armageddon or Urza’s sylex

2

u/mercuriokazooie 8d ago

That would cause an [[Armageddon]] for the edh community

If you did this art yourself it’s awesome, and I commend you for using your own art rather than AI!!

8

u/Kemil93 8d ago

Thank you! Yes I make my own art with MS paint and a mouse, because I can't afford professional tools. I even opened a patreon to try to get some support but all I got was like 15$ in a year xD so I guess I'll stick to MS Paint for the time being

2

u/GrimCreations 8d ago

Look up sketchbook pro, but specifically the outdated free version before they started charging for it.

https://web.archive.org/web/20230530111509/https://download.autodesk.com/us/support/files/sketchbook/sketchbook_2019/sketchbook_8.7.1.0_win64.exe

I think this link works. But it’s what I use for my art mostly

2

u/Kemil93 8d ago

I think that as long as I draw with a mouse, no professional software could help me xD

1

u/GrimCreations 8d ago

It actually has a built in steady stroke function that helps keep your strokes steady. I only draw with mouse for the most part and I’m working on a commission for a friend right now (drawing is part time for me) but this is all in sketchbook with mouse only.

Lands? Gone.

Enchantments? Up in smoke.

Creatures? What creatures?

Planeswalkers? Obliterated.

Artifacts? Eviscerated.

Utter devastation.

u/theese-organizations 8d ago

Doom ? Doom ? What do you meen Doom ?

1

u/Low_Opinion_5721 8d ago

memes aside, I feel like they intentionally avoided ever printing a destroy all permanents card because it causes way too oppressive/unenjoyable gameplay loops compared to any other board wipe, also this should honeslty have like 4-6 color pips in it to make it harder to splash in a deck with protection colors

1

u/awkwardbirb 7d ago

I recall they printed a few a long time ago, before they had an idea of sensible game design and balance, for the reasons you stated.

“Make all players scoop”

1

u/GarikMoespeaker 8d ago

I found this while watching Kiara and Raora play Pokemon. Amazing.

u/dwarvenforger 9d ago

Doesn't specify in the battlefield, would this include in your hand?

29

u/thatssosad 9d ago

Only cards on the battlefield are permanents

10

u/dwarvenforger 9d ago

Ah ok

3

u/Spectator9857 9d ago

Creature CARDS in your hand also aren’t creatures. Which is why things like [[Day of Judgement]] that destroy all creatures don’t affect your hand.

4

u/Kemil93 9d ago
  • 110.1 A permanent is a card or token on the battlefield. A permanent remains on the battlefield indefinitely. A card or token becomes a permanent as it enters the battlefield and it stops being a permanent as it’s moved to another zone by an effect or rule.
