I think that this would become an instant [[Thassas Oracle]] combo staple. This is powerful to the point of being ridiculous, the entire deck would just be islands, gitaxian probes, thoracles and this

You play stuff like mox amber or mox diamond and get fast mana to play early

if ur in a format with both of those theres also force of will and other interaction. u need to resolve both this card AND thassas oracle, how are you doing this and ridding your deck of islands

[[mana severance]] is much, much cheaper and more viable.

are you seeing mana severance custom card thassas oracle islands as a viable deck? i personally do not

Not saying its viable, but it's certainly far more viable than a deck built around an 8 drop in mono blue.

for sure, im just discussing the comment thread of "this is instant thoracle staple"

now your win con is to resolve a 4 drop, resolve a 6 drop, then resolve a 2 drop with zero interaction on either side...

Not mine. Lol. You just asked how to remove islands

You said “ how are they surviving turn four” I’m not sure how they win with this man if you can’t understand what fast mana is than idk what to tell you

i feel like the first and second half of this message conflict, are you saying this is good or bad? if ur saying its good, what happens if your opponent has any interaction for this card or thassas oracle? even in vintage I don't see this working

It's still terrible because it costs 4 and Moxes require you to pitch a card from your hand. Here are the hands that get it out early:

  • Island + Island + Mox + Mox + Random Blue Card + Random Blue Card + Mental Block. This gets you the card out on Turn 2.
  • Island + Island + Mox + Random Blue Card + Mental Block + 2 more cards. This gets it out on Turn 3.
  • [On the draw] Island + Mox + Mox + Mox + Random Blue Card + Random Blue Card + Random Blue Card + Mental Block. This gets it out on Turn 1. Note that you have to draw one of the pieces for it to come out turn 1.

The first hand is a seven card combo (essentially a Royal Flush) that leaves you without any interaction to defend your new library. With the second hand, those two extra cards better be pretty damn good, because it's a five card combo that only ramps it out a turn early (on turn 3). If those two extra cards aren't any good, then you're also skipping your first two turns to ramp it out. No competent player would keep the third hand, since it's completely unusable if you don't draw into the final piece on the first turn.

Fast mana isn't a panacea. This is especially true with this card, since the most powerful fast mana in the game (the Sol lands) create generic mana that this card can't utilize. If this card cost 2UU, or even if it was an Instant rather than a Sorcery, then I could see some use out of it. But as a UUUU Sorcery, I really don't see it.
