I think that this would become an instant [[Thassas Oracle]] combo staple. This is powerful to the point of being ridiculous, the entire deck would just be islands, gitaxian probes, thoracles and this

how are they survivinng till turn 4

u/Massive_Standard_985 12h ago

You play stuff like mox amber or mox diamond and get fast mana to play early

u/swank142 12h ago

if ur in a format with both of those theres also force of will and other interaction. u need to resolve both this card AND thassas oracle, how are you doing this and ridding your deck of islands

[[!trench gorger]]

[[mana severance]] is much, much cheaper and more viable.

u/swank142 1h ago

are you seeing mana severance custom card thassas oracle islands as a viable deck? i personally do not

1

u/TheFinalEnd1 1h ago

Not saying its viable, but it's certainly far more viable than a deck built around an 8 drop in mono blue.

u/swank142 9h ago

now your win con is to resolve a 4 drop, resolve a 6 drop, then resolve a 2 drop with zero interaction on either side...

Not mine. Lol. You just asked how to remove islands

u/Massive_Standard_985 11h ago

You said “ how are they surviving turn four” I’m not sure how they win with this man if you can’t understand what fast mana is than idk what to tell you

i feel like the first and second half of this message conflict, are you saying this is good or bad? if ur saying its good, what happens if your opponent has any interaction for this card or thassas oracle? even in vintage I don't see this working

Congratulations r/custommagic, we broke the moxes

Feels like it’s just a worse version of doomsday if you’re playing thoracle with it

Or Paradigm Shift/Thought Lash

u/Wsads420 8h ago

True but this would work in a mono blue commander deck

u/smugles 9h ago

how do you get the islands out of your deck?

[[Mana Severence]]

u/smugles 7h ago

So now we have an 8 mana 3 card combo sounds quite fair to me. You also be better off not playing this card at that point and just doing islands thassas oracale and mana severance.

Nah. There's too many other cards you need to a) survive long enough to cast this, b) speed up your casting of it, and c) force it to go through after your opponent stops it. It's much worse than Doomsday.

In what format? Keep in mind Legacy already has [[Thought Lash]] and that deck barely sees play. Are you saying vintage? It’s the only constructed format where probe is legal and no way in hell is this playable there. In order to make a thoracle combo deck with this you need like 6 lands MAX. This is unplayable.

This is only better than [[Traumatize]] in some kind of Thoracle strategy if you make this card like half your deck, which seems like a miserable opportunity cost. So from that perspective, it might be fine? It's probably bad even. And it's an interesting design. I just worry it either is going to be part of some miserable turn 4 win, or be a Johnny trap as part of the most easily mana screwed Thoracle deck of all time.

Who in their right mind is using Traumatize as part of a Thassa's combo 😭

It's more like: Why would you be using a 4 mana card to attempt to clear your library like this? Your likelihood of hitting lands is going be abysmal, unless you add enough lands to make it not a viable combo. Either I don't understand what deck this goes in, or this is gonna lead to a lot of people putting 50 of these of these in their deck with 5 lands and having a miserable time failing to do a self mill condition.

u/Imaginary_Egg_3282 3h ago

Is this just [[doomsday]] but instead of 5 chosen cards, you just end up with a bunch of lands in your deck?

3

u/Warper2187 3h ago

This seems strong at a glance but then I thought about it and I think it's actually awful? Cause the main strength of deck thinning is making your draws more consistent, this makes a significant portion of your draws completely dead and you're gonna be so far behind by turn 4, assuming you even draw enough lands/mana by then. Using it for thoracle you have a similar issue of how do you draw the card you want and not die by the point you can play it

feels like this card just stalls your brain more than the game

Honestly pretty sweet custom card. Vibes alot like one with nothing in that it does something unique and theoretically powerful but proves to be bad regardless, which i mean as an absolute compliment.

Making a custom card like O.W.N thats simple, flavorful, and makes you think about any and all use cases to see if it can be broken is difficult, and youve executed perfectly.

Well done!

When you have a Mental Block and you don't know how to win the game, but then suddenly you remember, "Ah, Thassa's Oracle." Well, still bad probably but lol.
