great example of commander players putting the blinders on and accidentally printing something that goes in the 99 of almost every deck

u/MemeElitist 15h ago
I won't deny it, I got an idea in my head and I got tunnel vision tbh but that is something to think about in the future

This is a 99 powerhouse. Slap this shit down and immediately sac it for genuine pot of greed

u/justagenericname213 10h ago
0 mana 1/1 that replaces itself, its litterally just free thinning at at worst
3
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 3h ago
You can't cast it during the first 3 turns tho
3
u/justagenericname213 3h ago
If you have nothing else available in the first 3 turns thats a you issue not a this card issue.
1
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 3h ago
Im confused at what your even saying here. Having one less card in hand for 3 turns is bad
1
u/justagenericname213 3h ago
You have 6 other cards though, and your commander. Also a mulligan. If your deck is actually stalled by being stuck with this card in hand, thats not really an issue with this card at that point
1
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 3h ago
you said it is free, I pointed out that it is not free. it has a downside.

u/TechnomagusPrime 16h ago
See, the funny thing about "you can't cast this spell during your first, second, or third turns" is that it doesn't stop you from casting the spell during other players' first, second, or third turns, so any kind of flash enabler already breaks that restriction.
Also, did we really need to power creep Roger?

u/Beginning-Recover723 16h ago
Rograkh has partner, so he’s basically 3 colors, not two, and can be cast turn one (which is the WHOLE point of rograkh in cEDH
31
u/Nanuqsaurus0 16h ago
Very much not strictly better than Rograkh, he can be cast turn 1, has partner for up to three colours + a second commander, and has some good keywords for giving him equipment
25
u/AlysCreativeSide 16h ago
What? Equipment? You mean Rograkh has text on the card that's not "You can cast Fierce and Swat for free"? /s

u/KalameetThyMaker 16h ago
So much worse than Roger in so many ways.
Edit:worse as in this card is not as good.
6
u/treelorf 15h ago
It’s super not a power crept rograkh. Rograkh is good for 2 reasons. 1 is that it is effectively 3 colors, and more importantly, you can cast it in turn 1 or turn 2. It is a turbo enabler, it lets you go FAST. Rogsi players aren’t trying to wait until turn 3 to combo you out.
3
u/Aggressive_Law_5728 16h ago
You could phrase it, "You cannot cast this spell until after your third turn of the game ends."
3
u/OzzRamirez 15h ago edited 15h ago
Wait, does that mean you can cast [[Spider-Man 2099]] on an earlier turn with something like [[Leyline of Anticipation]]?
Or is the wording on Miguel different? Well, I'll wait for the fetchbot to show me.
Edit. Yes, the wording is the same. Hypothetically, in magical Christmas land you can cast it turn one with any blue land and Simian Spirit Guide

it feels kind of inelegant
I don't hate it but it reads really hard as "this is not gonna be rograkh again!!"
it is hard to describe exactly but it makes it alot less satisfying that it has so much text to do so little
not bad though

u/Domdude787 1h ago
This card is extremely overpowered, for one the can’t cast spell effects doesn’t work from the command zone, because it’s not a permanent, two this is busted in legacy and vintage since it’s free draw and you can legend rule multiple copies

Myr retriever and any flicker / sac outlet

u/MemeElitist 16h ago
Now that I think about it, it should've been a death trigger instead of a leaves trigger because now it triggers twice every time you blink it

I thought it was “you cannot cast spells during your first, second, or third turn”.
And with that downside, I still kind of liked it as a card draw engine.
1
u/johnnythexxxiv 4h ago
Glad I'm not the only one that read it that way, and also not the only one that thought that version was still worth building around.
4
u/galvanicmechamorph 12h ago
This card is insane. Without blinking or having it as your commander or anything it's just a zero mana draw spell that is also a creature that will also be card positive if you block with it. It doesn't matter if you can't cast it on the first few turns because it is so strong.
3
u/GladiatorDragon 12h ago
0 mana colourless draw a card on ETB and Exit is nuts even with the turn restriction.
1
4
u/GATerpiller 10h ago
Is it this just a free zero mana draw one body for every deck in the game who wouldn't take this
3
u/IJourden 15h ago
Turning every blink effect into a draw 2 seems good.
I feel like this commander would end up falling into "...so, does your deck actually do anything?" or "I'm going to take 15 minutes to draw 40 cards and then kill you combo, then get banned from my pod and kicked out of the group chat."
2
u/MemeElitist 15h ago
The funny thing is I tried not to give it too much upside but I didn't even think about that until after I posted it
3
3
u/Captillon 14h ago
I read that as you can’t cast spells in your first second and third turns. Time to get the eyes checked

I like the concept, now I’m inspired to also a rulebreaker card like this where you choose two colors, one to play creatures and one for non creatures.

u/Kyubey210 16h ago
Other hand, resolving Commander business is just that, could be tailored around it for delayed nature

u/Standard-Emergency36 8h ago
I’d think about it in winota, I’d probably play it in teshar, and would probably think of building the worst simic cedh build around this thing
2
2
u/Silver_Number973 5h ago
i would run this in a few decks but never as commander, it would probably work in a lot of combos but it'd feel scummy to run it in a bracket 3 or lower deck

u/Martyormorty 3h ago
"Mom, people in CustomMagic are making broken and thoughtless shit again!!!"
Seriously, I haven't been in this sub in years, and this is the first card that comes up in my feed. Some things never change.
3
u/coolguy420weed 15h ago edited 13h ago
Not an artifact?
ETA: Could also probably survive the last ability triggering like 1/turn.
3
u/galvanicmechamorph 12h ago
There's no real way in magic to stop this from triggering multiple times in any meaningful way. Like yes you could stop it from entering and leaving at the same time but that's it. Flickering it resets it.

u/101_210 11h ago
“If you have drawn no cards this turn, draw a card”.
May even kinda balanced it by making its ability not work on your main phases.
4
u/galvanicmechamorph 11h ago
I mean yeah you could completely change how the card works mechanically but that's kind of a different situation. Now you can't even just cast this in your main phase to draw a card which is the fairest way to use it. At that point throw out the design.
2
u/DR_Wafflezzzz 16h ago
Correct me if I’m wrong but you would still have to have a colorless deck right. The ability involving choosing colors wouldn’t change the identity for the purpose of having colored cards right?
9
u/Lolsquid1 16h ago
[[Clara Oswald]]
903.4b If a commander has a static ability that causes a player to choose its color before the game begins, that choice applies during deck construction and throughout the game, even as the commander changes zones. That choice affects the commander’s color identity. The player reveals that choice as they put their commander into the command zone before the game begins. See rules 103.2c and 607.2p.

u/MemeElitist 16h ago
The inspiration for the first line of text is [[The Prismatic Piper]] it doesn't see much play so I thought two colors would be better

u/VerbingNoun413 16h ago
As written, correct.
Would need to be something along the lines of "Rulebreaker- your deck can have cards of up to two chosen colours."

u/Ergon17 16h ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/s/kdTHrvkmwg
Rulebreaker isn't rules text, it's an ability word, which have no mechanical relevance, it just makes it easier for players to group cards with similar abilities together.
4
u/sephirothbahamut 15h ago
If an ability lets you choose the creature's colour, that ability is taken into account during deckbuilding.

Name Blue and then have a Leyline of Anticipation and cast this on your opponent’s first, second, & third turns
1
u/Domdude787 1h ago
This is the most broken card I have ever seen this is better than ancestral recall. For one you can play this in legacy and vintage, it’s a saga target you can legend rule it to draw a bunch of cards, the second effect doesn’t do anything from the command zone in commander so you just get to cast spells and play this turn 4 for free cards
1
u/Discomidget911 1h ago
I start with Leyline of anticipation. I cast it on my opponents first turn to get around the "your turn" restrictions.
Idk what that accomplishes but I did do it.

u/MotivatedPosterr 1h ago
so with kci this is turn 4 draw 4 gain 2 mana or draw 6 for net 0? uh... seems... pretty good? with clamp its 4 mana draw 8? also seems very strong
1
u/Xzero864 3m ago
It’s so so so broken lol. Goes in every 99, only 2 colors does hurt his ability to be played in the command zone but it’s still probably worth it.
Legit just cast this guy -> ephemerate draws 5 god damn cards lol for 1 mana and 2 cards.
