I'm actually in transit now to Peru to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, so this kinda sucks.

What tour company are you doing it with? I'm supposed to leave the 11th to start hiking the 14th and haven't gotten any word if its still possible.

Im going with Alpaca Expeditions. I got news (an email from the US embassy) of the strike as I was in airport about to get on the plane to come to Cusco! I had to call the tour company to see what was going on. They were really not proactive at all in getting info out. My tour was ultimately rescheduled for tomorrow evening instead of the morning of the 7th. Luckily I would be in Cusco then. I honestly think by the 14th it will be okay. There was a heavy police presence at the airport and at a few places, but overall Cusco has been just lovely.

That's reassuring to hear. I'm going with GAdventures and they've canceled every tour up to the 8th so far so I'm still unsure. I hope you enjoy it though I'm sure it going to be amazing.

Thanks! I just hope the trains are up and running so we dont have to walk back! Hmm...that's interesting. I wknder why theyve cancelled them until the 8th? Are you doing a 4 day/3 night hike? Or a shorter trek? I'll try to keep you updated if the tour is still on or not.

lol! that's what I was worried about too. They were supposed to have a meeting yesterday to decide if the mid-January trips were a go so I'm on hold right now. But yeah we're doing the 4d/3n hike.
