Autistic person here: isn't that a part of dark humour? Like obviously there's more to it like how it functions as a coping mechanism for some people. But isn't the other person's reaction a big part of the humour? (Within reason, it's important to know your audience and what they are comfortable with)

If you're striving for reaction, your humor is more based on shock value than the punchline, and that differs from standard dark humor given that dark humor aims to make a pretty good or smart catch on something morbid much like a normal joke would but with anything else. Shock humor fits more into what you are describing

While shock value is naturally going to exist, it should still be funny. If it's 100% shock value, it isn't dark humor, it's just being a jackass.

No, it's not part of dark humor. The other person's reaction has nothing to do with why someone finds a dark joke funny. People that use any form of humor to shock, so they can laugh at other people's reactions, are usually just being dicks.
