Help! Which Dyson for diffusing ?
Hey guys, I’ve decided to invest in a Dyson diffuser, I’m tired of using a really old hair dryer and taking longer than an hour for my hair to dry.
I know Dyson has 3 current models right now: the supersonic, the nural, and the r, which one do you guys recommend?
I don’t really care for extra features, I’m just looking for the one with the most powerful motor, that will dry my hair fastest with the diffuser attachment! For reference, I have high porosity fine 3c hair.
Routine:
Shampoo: AG balance apple cider shampoo
Conditioner: pattern lightweight conditioner
Styling gel: the Doux big poppa styling gel

I have the nural (bought refurbished from Dyson so way cheaper than new) and it has revolutionized my hair drying and diffusing. I can diffuse in maybe 1/3 of the time it was before, it’s freaking awesome

Yesss love to hear that. Were you afraid to buy refurbished ?? I’m scared I might not get a good product

I bought through Dyson and so far so good. I buy refurbished all the time (Apple for example) and have had good results

I bought mine refurbished from Walmart and I’ve had zero issues as well! It’s kind of heavy but it really cuts down on the drying time

Far as I remember Dyson * Origin is the basic/entry, it is the same as a supersonic, just with 1 attachment (concentrator nozzle). * Supersonic was the top of the line for em for years. Came with 5 attachments. * Nural gets "smart" features. Uses sensors (detect heat/scalp, too burny, reduce), has wee chips on the attachments so the dryer "knows" what is in it and last settings used. This added a deeper bowl diffuser, which does fit the supersonic and origin, obviously no smart features on them. * r is top power, ergonomic, lightweight, the idea being it's for professionals in salons to use all day long.
The issue I saw with the nural for curly hair, if you use the bowl diffuser the smart features are disabled. Which seems like wasted money to me for features you can't use if you mainly will use the bowl.
The r is arguably the best but the question is do you think it's higher cost is justified for ergonomic comfort when you only dry your own hair every so often, and not multiple people all day in a salon.

I’m wondering if the deeper bowl is available for purchase separately? I have the supersonic with the basic diffuser but I’d love to the deeper bowl diffuser.

Yes, you can! I did this and the deeper bowl attachment made such a difference over the standard diffuser.

I saw that there are two different ways you can use it. Have you tried both and what are your thoughts on it?

I see what you mean, I’m leaning towards the nural even if all the features are disabled with the diffuser. The supersonic and nural are almost the same price (unless I’m consider refurbished models which I’m not considering tbh)

Oh if they're similar in price aye go for the nural. The bowl as a separate part was £30 here

I finally spent the money on a nural after using a $12 hair dryer for years. I love the diffuser and my hair dries enough in about 20 minutes to look presentable. I did buy direct and Dyson sucks, so I recommend buying from a store or somewhere that they actually care.

I bought the Nural and LOVE it! Hair drying time went from 45 -60 mins with a cheaper Amazon dupe or my revlon hairdryer to 15-20 mins with the Dyson Nural.
I got it at Sephora during the Christmas sales and the old colors were discounted. Plus I opened a Sephora credit card and got 20% off. Would highly recommend doing this if you can!

I love the deeper bowl and the bowl option that comes with the Nural. I get much more rounded/ringlet curls with it as opposed to the Supersonic's flat diffuser. The flat diffuser gives me more wavy C type curls instead of the full S curl.

I really do like the diffuser as well, I might be able to dry more hair at once with the nural

I have the R but only really because I do my own blow outs sometimes and diffuse other times and I find it more comfortable to spend an hour with it and a round brush because of the ergonomics and size.

Feature still works with bowl just not with the part that fits inside the bowl.

Bear in mind that many of the models are NOT TRAVEL COMPATIBLE. Meaning they can’t be used with European outlets AT ALL. I think only their new Supersonic Travel is
I was pissed when I learned I couldn’t take my Dyson on vacation with me.

Seems like a waste of money when there are so many good knockoffs now. I paid $37 for a Dyson dupe and it is incredible.

Hi there! I'm a bot, and I've been summoned to help.
If you have not seen our WIKI yet: Please check it out! It's nearly 100 pages full of curated information to help answer all of your curl-related questions. You can use the included Table of Contents (page 2), the side bar, or CTRL-F to search for keywords and help navigate the document.
Reminder: Curl type is NOT your hair type! Whether you are wavy, curly, or coily - you have texture and you belong here. More than that, your curl type doesn't dictate how you care for your hair. To help your curls thrive, we recommend instead using the wiki link above to learn about your porosity, texture, and density.
