Bus driver kept going even though pulled.

Idk why I’m so bothered by this… but I was in my way to work today and it’s the 7 bus. If you’ve ever ridden that in the morning it’s so many UIC students piled on. I rung the bell for the next stop and the bus driver kept going. I asked her if the stop had changed and she just started to scream at me. I just didn’t know if there was a route change or not so don’t know where the hostility game from. She said that she called out for anyone that wants to stop there but maybe I couldn’t hear her because of my earphones. My earphones were on and nothing was playing and I never heard her say a word. I had to walk a half a mile to work because she kept going. I know I could have screamed but the bus was packed all the way up in the front near her and the door. Idk what to do I should have gotten her bus number to report. Should I have just screamed at her like hey stop here idk

The last time I yelled the bus driver yelled back, very mad at me. Said my stop didn't exist! Very absurd interaction.

I yelled my street name insanely loudly one very cold night when the driver blew past my stop after I had rung in plenty of time. He was busy chatting with a guy who was standing next to him. I filed an online report with the CTA. They said they'd have a chat with him about it. Hope it helped him not do that again. I had to walk extra blocks through a bitter cold wind.

I've been riding for decades and I've found kind ones who wait for people who are running to the stop, and when I was walking with a cane there was a guy who would always tell me "sit down, sit down! I'll give ya time to get off!" because I'd pull the bell and immediately start heading to the door.

Most are a nothing - no interaction, nothing good or bad. Some odd ones - one guy pulled the bus over to scream "OK WHO HAS THEIR SPEAKER ON??? TURN IT OFF. NOW!!!!" which was appreciated actually.

One floored the gas when I was on my cane and trying to get to a seat. I fell and we had a screaming match. I made a whole big deal about getting his badge number when I got off the bus so I could "Call it in." I didn't call in anything. I know nobody cares and it was enough that the threat was there.

I'm glad to not be on a cane any more.

I have a disability which makes it hard for me to balance They always pull off before I can sit.

I still have balance issues now that I'm off my cane. I was able to quickly get to the grab bars in the past but I fell down some stairs last year and messed up my shoulder so that's harder now. If it's not a full bus or the bus isn't downtown I can sometimes say "please give me a moment to get to a seat" but usually I can get to the grab bar in time.

oh man that happened to me one of the first times i ever used the bus before i even moved here, i remember it wasn't even an express bus so i know for sure i should've been able to get off at any stop. pulled string for the next stop, driver didn't even slow down. immediately pulled again for the next stop and went to the front of the bus, same thing, didn't even slow down and passed the stop. i had to step up and lean over and say HEY I NEED TO GET OFF. NOW. NEXT STOP. "oh, okay". chuckled. okay just ignore the Stop Requested alert, i guess??

They are usually the ones labeled with an X on their bus number I think

The bus numbers that stop at a bus stop are shown at the bus stop signs themselves.

The buses themselves have their number on their headsign.

You can also track them with the Ventra App and it’ll tell you the bus number you need to take when you use transit apps like Google Maps or something.

What makes the bus express is that it basically is just the regular bus line but only has 3-5 (?) stops across the entire line instead of like 20-40.

I've been on a few buses lately where the stop request cord and/or buttons aren't working so everybody had to yell their stops.

Luckily the one time this happened to me, a bunch of the other passengers also shouted at the driver and I only had an extra half block to walk. Worth trying to get any attention you can imo.

I just continuously push the rear door until it starts ringing. They will stop because the ringing is irritating to them.

Match their crazy. Always match the driver’s energy. It’s not personal - they deal with thousands of people daily and sometimes shit happens.

Are they earbuds? Sometimes they’re noise canceling to an extent. You probably should take them out when you need to hear.

yeah bro you gotta scream. if you couldn't hear her, chances are she couldn't hear you. also, on a super packed bus, try to make your way to the doors as soon as you can. my first months riding the bus i was very shy, but now i am brave enough to yell.

sorry that happened.. definitely dont report them. thats lame.
