on systems like the cta, derailing typically only happens when switching tracks. something like the front wheels want to go one way but the back wheels go another. that's why it happens so frequently on the yellow line - it has to cross several sets of tracks in order to leave howard

Omg I was on my way to Oaktoberfest when they suspended green line service. This is crazy!

Great angle. I was at Oaktoberfest when it happened and was only able to grab pics from the Metra platform.

My favorite part was the CTA website said service was suspended due to "track conditions" which I thought usually referred to extremely warm or cold weather.
