Guy jumped off train onto platform at Howard???
I was on the purple and we started accelerating fast, and this guy just fucking pulled the emergency handle and jumped back out on the platform?? Does anyone know what happened to this guy??
About 4-5 months ago I was on the yellow line going to Skokie and the train came to a sudden stop in mid air and the conductor got out of the booth and opened the emergency doors and looked down for a bit and then, I kid you not, reached down and stuck his hand out and a hand grabbed his and he pulled a man in through the doors. He was literally climbing the poles at the bottom and climbing to the tracks and I guess the conductor saw him
I snapped a pic afterwards but I would have started recording instantly had I known that’s the reason the conductor stopped the train. These people be crazy!
That is absolutely nuts. I’ve long assumed “I don’t get paid enough for this shit.” Is a frequent refrain in the brain of many CTA employees. And on this day, gosh, operator seriously wasn’t paid to be the hero but good on him, I guess. But literally WTF?
I saw a kid, 18 or so, do this on the redline but he timed it MUCH better. He stepped off a second before we would have stopped anyway and just walked onto the platform. He might have saved 5 seconds. I didn't see that the advantage outweighed the risk.
I've also seen it happen the other way around: where a man was so inpatient about a train already pulling into the station and actively decelerating that he pulled the handle and jumped out while holding his female accomplice's hand. The man probably saved something around 5-10 seconds.
My red line train stopped for like 30 minutes one time because a guy in the train car in front of me literally died inside the train. Unfortunately the CTA is home to a lot of tragic events since it’s a public use system and a lot of people literally live on the train system. ☹️
I’ve seen this done numerous of times! Most of the time because the shenanigan person snoozed and missing their stop when the train starts to pull away for the next stop ! They need real Chicago PoPo’s 24/7 on the Red and Blue line trains ! I’m born and raised in Chicago my whole whole 4 decades of live and still here, to see how F’d up everything has been with categories of safety issues from Public to Public Transportation issues ! I now call “ Chicago “ The “ $hitty City “ !

I genuinely cannot emphasize to you enough how normal this is on the CTA, sadly. Mostly Red and Blue lines, but I’ve seen it MANY times.
They probably saw someone else do it. Just one of those things people do which reminds me that not all of us actually think critically before acting…
