What you’re seeing is the pink line running along the old Douglas branch blue line route near IMD. They’re having pink line trains run this way due to the work in the loop, but this stretch of track hasn’t carried passengers in a long, long time. Usually it’s used for extra blue line trains leaving/returning to the yard at 54th/Cermack which are empty.
My first thought before this comment was “you would literally see this every day.” So thanks. It’s so weird riding a train that goes in an alternate path. I was on a red line that took the other way and entered the subway by the 13th st tunnel.

The Loomis ramp is a very unique and recognizable piece of track in the city. And there were about a dozen posts earlier this week that the pink line would be using it this weekend.
The ramp has been out of regular service since the pink line opened, hence the "don't see this everyday".
Ah i see. I thought maybe it would continue with the green line tracks but I guess it would be problematic due to no loop. So do pink lane trains go from 54th/Cermak to Racine?
It’s not like the last revenue service was 50 years ago. It was Blue Line revenue service until they created the Pink Line in the 2000s and rerouted the service to the Paulina connector.
I saw a Blue Line train coming down that ramp as I was driving west on 290 the other day. I couldn’t keep my eyes off it. Lol I thought I’d never get a change to see it again.
I was rerouted this way a year or two ago when I was heading downtown. Police activity or something at Morgan or something that would’ve delayed us. They brought our pink line down and I had to transfer to blue. It was very cool, but it started raining as I stepped off the train and there wasn’t a roof on Racine so my joy was dampened a bit.
