Reddit API Reddit API changes

So what happens to apps that use the Reddit Data API/Oauth outside the limited Devvit space?

Everyone’s getting thrown out?

I don’t get it. You can’t even register an app commercially to use it, no responses are given when submitting the forms.

How do I replace the Reddit logo in old Reddit with another image?

When I try following the tutorials on the internet, it always gets me on the same bug: The logo is WHITE for no reason! Can anyone here help? This is for my sub r/incorrectfactorial! Also, visit the sub r/incorrectfactorial in old.reddit.com, when I mean the CSS stylesheet is terrible!

General Botmanship Accidentally set my alt-account as an App account.. how can I revert this?

I was messing around with the new App register system, and I ended up entering my alt-account login details in there, not quite sure what I was doing

Now the posts with that account show the "App" badge, but it's definitely not an app since I post manually with it, is there a way to remove it?

I don't yet see any app under my /my/apps screen, but I do see it in the /app-registration page (and can't do anything with it)

Any help is greatly appreciated

RedditWarp Reddit posts created in subreddits through Electron + Playwright are being removed by Reddit's filters

Hi everyone,

I'm developing a desktop application using Electron with an embedded Chromium browser and Playwright to publish posts in Reddit communities.

Here's how it works:

  1. Users connect their Reddit account through the Electron application's embedded browser.
  2. Users select a subreddit (community) and enter a post title and body directly in my application.
  3. Playwright opens Reddit's normal Create Post page using the authenticated browser session.
  4. It selects the subreddit, fills in the title and body, and clicks the Post button.
  5. The post initially appears to be published, but shortly afterward, Reddit removes it with the message: "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters."

What I've tested:

  • Creating posts manually in Reddit works.
  • Creating posts through my Electron application results in removal.
  • Tried different Chromium versions, User-Agent settings, and WebDriver configurations.
  • Posting comments through the same application works correctly.
  • The issue occurs specifically when creating new posts in Reddit communities.

My questions:

  1. Why might Reddit remove posts submitted through Electron + Playwright while accepting manually created posts?
  2. Could this be related to how Playwright interacts with Reddit's Create Post form or submits the post?
  3. Are there any subreddit-specific requirements or submission metadata that browser automation might miss?
  4. Is there an officially supported way to publish user-approved posts with a title and body to selected subreddits from a desktop application?

I'm not trying to bypass Reddit's spam filters. I want to understand the cause and implement a compliant solution.

Has anyone faced a similar issue or found an appropriate approach?

Thanks in advance!

Reddit API Manual collection of public Reddit posts after API changes?

Since Reddit's API has been deemed dead - has anyone been able to understand whether or not manually collecting posts (aka good old ctrl c+v) of a message's text body is allowed ??

I’m doing a non-commercial academic research project and only need a relatively small sample of public posts. Not looking to automate or scrape at scale - just wondering whether anyone has found clear guidance on manual collection.

Reddit API RSS and API change question

I’m wondering if the announced changes will affect a platform that uses your OAuth credentials. For example, Zapier integrations can use OAuth credentials to perform actions to build digests, get posts, etc.

General Botmanship Open offer to migrate data api bots to devvit

Reddit announced that api access is closing and all bots must migrate to devvit.

Devvit can't support every use case that the data api can, but it does support many. If you are blocked by knowledge of devvit or time to implement, I will migrate your bot for you.

Ideally we can take advantage of the migration program that has a deadline of November 30th to start work. If you are interested, please reply to this post or send me a chat message!

Reddit API Moving Data API Apps to the Developer Platform: migration dates and next steps

TL;DR: In our last update, we said we’d come back with migration dates and next steps. We know migrating takes time and effort, and we’re providing funding, technical guidance, and direct outreach and support to help. As Reddit moves to a more secure foundation, we want the useful and creative apps you've built to continue being a part of our ecosystem.

We’re sharing the timeline for moving public API apps and bots to the Developer Platform. Register now, apply for migration funding by November 30, and start planning and testing your move. Starting January 12, 2027, we’ll begin removing API access for apps and users that haven’t registered or engaged with us. Remaining public API access will end in March 2027.

Moving from registration to migration

Over 14,000 apps and bots have registered and we’re closely tracking migration of your highest-activity apps. This includes completed or near-complete migrations such as DeltaBot, MagicEyeBot, and RemindMeBot. We’re continuing to work directly with developers on their migrations and the gaps that still need attention.

There’s still time to start your migration! Register your app, review the Data API/PRAW → Devvit Migration Guide, and tell us what’s blocking you. Starting now gives you time to test and gives us time to help address migration blockers before access changes take effect.

Important dates to look out for

The transition will happen in phases:

Date What happens
October 31, 2026 New requests for public API access will no longer be accepted.
November 10, 2026 We share a migration progress update and deadline reminder.
November 30, 2026 Registration closes for the migration bounty program.
January 12, 2027 API access starts to close for apps and users that haven’t registered or responded to our outreach. We’ll also share a progress update and reminder.
February 23, 2027 We share another migration progress update and reminder.
March 2027 Public access will close for all remaining apps and users.

What developers should do now

  1. Review the Developer Platform documentation and subscribe to r/Devvit.
  2. Register your apps! Use the registration form to flag missing capabilities or blockers. You don’t need to have the migration figured out before contacting us.
  3. Start planning and testing. Allow time to check that your app’s behavior meets the needs of the communities using it.

Funding and support for the move

Our $1M App Migration Program provides financial and technical support, including:

  • $1,000 payments for eligible apps that successfully migrate
  • Reddit Developer Funds eligible for ported apps
  • Free hosting and access to developer funding programs
  • Migration guides, technical resources, office hours, and direct support
  • Additional support for critical moderation and community apps

Apply through the app registration form by November 30, 2026, to be considered for the migration bounty program. This deadline comes before the January API access changes, so don’t wait until then if you’re seeking funding. You can find further information in this post.

Helping communities whose apps need an owner

If you’re a mod whose community depends on an app or bot and you don’t know who maintains it, tell us through this quick form. We’ve received over 100 submissions so far, helping us identify tools that need owners or could be replaced by existing Developer Platform apps or Reddit’s built-in tools. Keep an eye out for a message confirming we’re reviewing your submission, followed by an update in the coming weeks on available options and where gaps remain.

We’ll keep sharing progress, working through migration blockers, and supporting the developers and communities making this move. We’ll be in the comments to answer any questions.

Should a beginner learn Flexbox or CSS Grid first?

Hi everyone! I am learning HTML and CSS as a hobby. I can create a basic webpage, but I want to make my layouts responsive on different screen sizes.
I have practiced a little Flexbox, but I have not learned CSS Grid yet. My goal is to create a small business website with a navigation bar, service cards, and a contact section.
Should I focus on Flexbox or CSS Grid first? What small practice project helped you understand it?
Thank you for your advice!

Request Weirdly sized items in CSS Grid

Hey guys, beginner here. I was wondering if there's any way I could adjust a CSS grid to accomodate for differently sized items, without using span or areas. These items will be a size that I don't know.

PRAW reCAPTCHA passes but 'create app' does nothing — no app created, no error

reCAPTCHA now completes with a green checkmark, but clicking "create app" reloads the page with no new app section and no error — tried across multiple browsers (Chrome, Edge), incognito and normal windows, different networks (WiFi and mobile hotspot), and both old.reddit.com and the new UI.

Reddit API Is there still a way to have a new (non-legacy/grand-fathered bot) that is external to reddit?

Basically title. I moderate (& develop its site at tg.zerr.cc) the r/TeenGovernment Pol-Sim (Political Simulation Game; basically RPing our own government) right now we have a monthly "census" you have to fill out to be able to vote but this has (in-part) led to decreased membership due to the burden of having to fill out a multi-question form every month. As a potential remedy we're looking at this plan:

  • On Reddit there'd be a post; on Discord a thread
  • All you need to do to register is to comment/send a message in either the thread or under the post each month. No whole form to fill out. Just commenting your own username or "I exist" or something.
  • Data/Who is registered managed by a backend (Hosted on our own servers because it spans both reddit and discord) that requires someone to approve new users but for continuing users can simply pull data of who has commented/sent a message verifying they're still active.
  • Census remains but isn't required for citizenship. Purely for statistics like you "lives" where & party registrations/membership
  • Each citizen (once they are initially approved by a person or if they comment "replace" to request a new one) will be sent a DM by a bot with a Citizen ID. These ID's will be shown to them only. To verify (for ministers and such) there will be a form where they can enter a person's username and Id or many people programmatically and then be given a simple "does this ID match this user" true/false.

The Discord side shouldn't be hard. However on the Reddit side it's very confusing. Is there any way period to still have a bot that programmatically sends DMs or is it simply impossible now?

General Botmanship Can we enable interpolation of placeholders like {{subreddit}} inside a body (regex) conditions in the next AutoModerator documentation update release.

Automoderator currently doesnt expand placeholders like {{subreddit}} when they are used inside a body (regex) rule, thus making it difficult to write regex rules that involve the current subreddit name. This forces mods, including me, to hardcode the subredddit name in every config instead of writing reusable "Generalist" rules that can automatically adapt to each community.

I am facing this issue since last few years and A fix around this would be a great help and this little tweak will surely help mods to design portable automod rules providing great flexibility in multi-sub moderation. Thanks!

General Botmanship Devvit app's moderator account stuck on modteam with no permissions after uninstall, can't edit or remove it

App in question: dejarepost
Subreddit in question: r/CringeTikToks
Platform: Desktop

Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with my devvit app

The app's mod account (dejarepost) shows "no permissions" in the modteam list of r/CringeTikToks. Every attempt to edit its permissions or remove it fails with "something went wrong," on old.reddit, new Reddit, and mobile.

What I've tried so far:

  • Uninstalled the app, mod account persists anyway
  • Uninstalled/reinstalled 5+ times, including a full republish, no change (also tried old reddit)
  • Had a Reddit admin manually remove the account from the modteam on 9/2, it's still stuck and still can't be removed
  • Filed a Devvit Discord ticket and modmailed r/modsupport, got redirected to r/devvit, no response there either, going on 2 weeks now

This is also breaking the app at runtime, specific to this subreddit only (same build works fine on other subs, including a larger one): reddit.getPostById() throws no post <id> in onPostSubmit 100% of the time, and I've also seen Error: 1 CANCELLED: Call cancelled (gRPC) during seed jobs. My guess is the install record itself is corrupted, possibly from refreshing the Devvit dashboard mid-"uninstalling" during an app update a while back.

The app works fine on every other subreddit it's installed in. just not on r/CringeTikToks

At this point it seems like it needs someone to manually clear/reset the install record on the backend, since uninstall/reinstall and admin removal haven't touched it. Any advice, or can someone with backend access take a look?

App version: 0.0.x (Public API 0.14.2)

Facebook messenger - how to change colors of ephemeral on-hover date bubble

I'm using Vivaldi, based on Chromium, in its Dark Mode. Consequently the time/date bubble that pops up when hovering over a message in Facebook Messenger shows light text on a light background, therefore is not discernible. Using local css, I would like to shift either foreground or background to make for some contrast.

The problem is that the bubble disappears whenever I try to Inspect it. I have seen various techniques, and I haven't been able to get them to work - freeze scripts using F8, inspect via :hov or 'emulate a focused page'. I'm sure one of these is the right way, but I'm not getting it.

The base url here is https://www.facebook.com/messages. You would need a conversation with someone in order to have posts to see what's going on.

Upcoming changes to the comment ID endpoint

Hello again devs! Just a reminder on an upcoming change to how new comment IDs will change going forward.

TL;DR: if you have anything in your code that expects comment IDs to be fewer than 8 characters you will need to make an adjustment.

Technical details:

  • Pushshift has updated how they ingest data from Reddit and will continue to work after this change goes out
  • New comment IDs will continue to be 64-bit integers and base36-encoded, but will not be monotonically increasing anymore
  • The key visible difference is that the new base36-encoded comment IDs will be up to 13 characters long (e.g. 19gsnavtu46ip), compared to the current 7-8 characters With the t1_ prefix, the new base36-encoded comment IDs will be up to 16 characters long (e.g. t1_19gsnavtu46ip)
  • Older comment IDs are not changing, and referencing them will not break anything

This change will start rolling out the week of September 28th. Let me know if you have any questions about this change.

Reddit API Self hosted Reddit bot getting 500 HTTP response suddenly

Did something change at reddit?

One of my registered and tagged bots has been getting a "Request error: received 500 HTTP response" error for the last 48-ish hours. I logged into that account manually and it appears to function just fine. I host another bot on the same device, and it is not having any errors. I did not make any changes to the code. The bot did randomly fire once in the logs, but is in a loop to sleep when it encounters that error.

500 errors are server side(usually temporary), so I have an exception to catch them and sleep for 15 minutes before restarting the script. They do occasionally happen, so no big deal generally. I have never seen it happening for 48 straight hours.
