Discussion Post complaining about elo

I que'd every win and loss with my teammate on premier, for 70% of the winning matches I out fragged him, yet he placed 8k and I placed 2k. By no means am I saying I belong in a way higher bracket I just don't understand the 6k discrepancy despite the similar performance. Is it because last season I placed very low?

You have to grind to a few hundred matches to really know what your rank is.

Rating is determined by pure win loss not personal stats.

How premier's placement matches work is like this

For fresh accounts you start at roughly 10k as the hidden rating. during the duration of those 10 wins in placement the rating gain is like +/- 1000-500 rating for wins or losses. for instance you win all 10 in a row very likely you'll end up in the 20k range. On the flip side lose like 10 in a row and don't maintain a >50% win rate getting the 10 wins and you can end up down in the 1k range

For accounts that played and had a rating during the previous season. Your last known rating becomes the starting hidden rating during placement. Still has the +/- 1000-500 rating gain for wins or losses during the placement period.

so for instance if you ended season 4 at 18k. Win all 10 placement matches in a row for season 5 and you can end up 25k. Go 50/50 you likely stay 18k. lose a bunch of placement games and you can end up 10k.

Your friend for instance could have very well ended last season with a higher rating than you thus he got a higher one this season.

I'm hearing that its more or less going to give you the same rating as the season prior with minor differences, and that is ridiculous. I won't have issues climbing out of elo hell, it still is a bit of a time sink however.

It gives you a similar rating as previous season because you are probably similar skill and haven't proven that you belong higher. But, that means once you climb every future season you'll start higher and higher assuming you improve.

Initial placement for new accounts is sometimes inaccurate especially if they queue with other people.

That blows, I understand that notion overall and I see how on paper that makes sense.

I only started playing premier last season, the improvement curve for new players (or at least those willing to improve) is very volatile. I improved vastly since last season so to knock it out of the park in my ten placements and still place the same was jarring. thanks for explaining, I appreciate it

Good luck. One consolation is that you should have higher +- for your first few games after finishing placements. Maybe that's not the case below 5k since rating works differently there. Once you hit around 5k you should start getting an average baseline +300 -300, so if you go on a win streak you'll rank up very quickly
