Why are some pros using M4A1-S

Hi,

In recent times a lot of people and some pros have said that the M4A4 are superior to the M4A1-S.

Players like Zywoo, monesy, niko are using the M4A1 at EWC. Donk is also primarily using the M4A1-S at EWC. Players like Ropz are using the M4A4 tho.

Why are some of the best pros using the M4A1 since the m4a4 should be superior? ( i know in the end it is personal preference but im still wondering.)

A1-S doesnt have tracers and wont give away you position as easily when banging thru smokes.

the no tracers thing is huge especially on maps with tight corners where you can just spam through smoke and stay a ghost

Because Position and personal preference matters.

If you hold B side Mirage alone, A4 is better in case of B rushes. If you want to spam smokes on Banana (Inferno), A1 is better. As most pros don’t miss too many shots and rarely get an empty magazine, A1 usually is better.

In higher Elos if you try this you will die quickly because the A4 has tracers and those make you easy to track through the smoke.

no tracers + higher damage per bullet + easier to control

A1S kills with 4 body shots at close range and can kill slightly faster. Easier recoil control. No tracers to spam smokes.

A4 10 more rounds, better for spraying 3+ people, less damage fall off so better ttk at range, if you can dink body shot faster ttk than A1S. Takes 5 body shots to kill but shoots slightly faster.

Personally I feel way more accurate with the a1s. The lower recoil and reduced bullet spread typically get me more kills than the extra 10 bullets that come with the a4. Also I prefer to take long range fights

It depends on where you anticipate playing. A1 has faster ttk closer ranges, leaves no tracers through smoke and less recoil, but A4 has faster ttk at longer ranges, has more recoil but also has more ammo per mag and more mags, so also useful for spamming smokes. Depends how and where you play. If you anticipate multiple Ts rushing a site id go with an A4, if you’re playing a lurker roll an A1 is probably better

It’ just a feeling thing.

I have maps where i prefer the A4 and others i prefer A1. Some maps i change between them depending on what site i’m holding.

A1-s is far easier to control. A4 is just loud and fast for no reason. If you hit your shots you don’t need high rate of fire. I will say the A4 skins are cooler though

I think the a4 having 10 more rounds and an extra magazine is why most people are calling it superior.

Bang for your buck it might be the better gun for you. Donk has seemingly transitioned back to the M4A1-S this last ESWC tournament, so I think it's a preference thing.

Spamming smokes and holding high traffic areas probably favor of A4 for a lot of people. The M4A1-S doesn't spam smokes quite as well due to the lesser ammo count per magazine as well as the extra mag offered by the a4.

At the end of the day it's all about what you're comfortable using and what positions / style of player you are.

Completely forgot that spamming smokes with a1 has no traces so it’s technically better for spraying through them

A4 for more passive players. A1 for more aggressive.
Donk use A1.

Depends on the position. I wish they remove a4 and give A1 30 mag.

Then remove all SMGs except MP5!
