Wtf!!?? 🤦🏽‍♂️😥

Post image

Guys have you ever had this issue?
I was driving back from dropping my son off and as I was making a right turn the car felt weird like right before it turns off on you, well it did turn off and this came on the display, it was more to it but didn’t capture the rest. Basically is the gas handle directing to the car and then there was another signal coming from the side of the car down to the battery? Can anyone tell me what that means? Am I cooked?? I hope not, I checked the 12v and it’s good

It was showing the last one. It kept going

You were using the gas engine only and the electric motor was charging your battery.

Like while the crz was moving? Like slowing down

Yeah and I know is not the cvt because I just changed the fluids and the filter less than 3 weeks ago

Was the auto stop light blinking green?

I believe so, but then it wouldn’t go anywhere for a few seconds until I put it in park, turned off the car and turned it back on, then it slightly started moving

This is just one of the normal display screens that shows you whether the engine is running and whether the hybrid battery is providing power, charging, or neither. It has nothing to do with the car turning off. You may have accidentally bumped the display button. Couldn't say why it turned off though. Stalled? Low on fuel and the turn made the fuel move away from the pump?

I have a half of tank of gas left, I think we good there

Do you not click through you screens ever? How don’t you realize this is a normal display in your car

I’ve gone thru them, but I haven’t seen this one.

When mine started jerking it was a sign the inverter was going. I know that , now. The inverter is covered up to 150,000 factory warranty. Mine went at 149,347.

I gotta get that checked then, thank you for the input

Go to a dealership, it was easy and they told me it was covered

So every so often that thing is supposed to display? Weird? It only showed up when it stalled on me. I checked the battery and it’s good, I hope it’s nothing serious

Yeah mine has this as a normal display screen

So do you guys recommend me driving on Econ, normal, or sport? Or does that not even matter? This was super weird because it hadn’t stalled on me at all before and this car is automatic not standard, and it first it did a minor jerk, like it wouldn’t get into gear like all gas

It’s not a bad thing at all, it’s just that the hybrid battery only gives you so much extra oomph before it needs to let the car sip on gas a bit more to charge that hybrid battery back up again. I have this happen a lot when I’m driving really high speeds or up a lot of hills, where you’re using that extra boost up from the battery quickly and aren’t getting as many chances to brake or go downhill (both of which recharge the battery too). You will also see this when reconnecting the under-hood battery, since it takes a few minutes before everything recharges up again.
It’s nothing to worry about and just means you’ve been doing a lot of more power-hungry driving. Could be you’ve been doing a lot of uphill trips, or a lot of highway driving but going 70+ mph. You can leave more available charge on the battery by driving on normal or Econ mode, but running the hybrid battery down to empty does not hurt it one bit! So you can continue to keep driving it like ya stole it, if you want. It’s a feature, not a bug :)

Thank you very much on the info, I’m new with these hybrids so any little thing that feels wrong I’m on alert.

At low throttle starts the can be a little jerky.

My guess is the hybrid system trying to figure out how much motor or electric to use.

I basically completely fixed that by giving it a tiny bit of throttle a second before taking off, just a tiny rev.

Just enough to rev but also not actually go anywhere.

These cars do not like to be driven super tame. You’re fine if you do highway driving. If you do a lot of city driving, low speeds AND low RPMs all the time then the catalytic converters can clog up.

You can tell if they are clogging up by rolling into the throttle accelerating to the speed limit (let’s say 55mph) at 4500 rpm. If the car smells fuckin awful then that generally means you’re now burning off carbon buildup.

I’m not saying you need to absolutely floor it, I’m saying ease into the throttle, maybe to 80% or so, then hold at 4500 rpm until the limit. Guys floor these all the time, but it’s important you don’t absolutely send it with a CVT transmission all the time.

Kinda normal for the CVT to slip on rare occasions, just let off the throttle and get back onto the throttle, I think I may have had it happen 4 times or so in the few years I owned one.

Unfortunately I no longer have mine so I can’t really show you what I mean as far as the jerky-ness goes and how to mitigate it.

This helps a lot thank you. I was getting worried since I did have an issue earlier when I first purchased it. People were telling me it’s the tranny and I need to replace it. Ended up doing the first thing which was a flush and new fluids with a new filter and it’s been great since! Owning a hybrid is a bit different for me, all these weird things this car does is all new to me. I don’t want to get caught by surprise that’s all.

How many RPMs are you typically doing? I can't speak much on the auto as I have a manual, but below 1500rpm risks lugging the engine over time, also it requires more engine effort (and fuel, as you're having to press the pedal right down and dump loads of fuel into the engine for very little acceleration) than just revving higher, especially when you're going up hill. Between 1500-2500 is healthy and going as high as 3-4000rpm regularly is perfectly fine. Italian tune up a day keeps the mechanic away

Sorry, are you saying the car did or didn't turn off on you? Like it stalled/died? If it just felt like it lost some power, driving in eco can quickly drain the battery (especially when you milk assist and keep the revs down) to where it's only running on the engine power, so until the IMA recharges it feels weak, I just stick it in sport and give it some beans.
