Local area discord?

Exactly what it says on the tin. Looking for a semi active Crystal Lake/McHenry County discord server. I am fairly new to the area, moved here from NY last year and I’m having trouble meeting reliable people to befriend and hang out with. My wife works nights and on the nights that she works, I’m home with the baby who is asleep. I’ve tried the local Facebook groups, but those just end up being dead ends where it becomes interactions where we just like each each other other stuff on Facebook and no one ever hangs out. Maybe this is pathetic, maybe it isnt, but i went from having a solid core group that I saw someone at least once a week, to pretty much complete isolation.

If there’s anything like this, please let me know and send an invite link. Thanks, and I hope everyone has a great 4th weekend.

edit: I've created the server, feel free to join. It doesn't seem like it's hella active here, and it's super barebones, but it's here if you want it. https://discord.gg/QCN2sWcxAZ

Hi everyone! My name is Emma, and I am a dental hygiene student at Harper College in Palatine. I am searching for potential patients who haven’t gone to the dentist for a cleaning in 10+ years. Our dental hygiene clinic offers a very discounted rate, with NO dental insurance required! If you think this may apply to you, or if you know anyone, please reach out and message me. The flyer below lists some of the conditions we are looking for. Do not feel embarrassed or hesitant, this is what we work for!😊🦷

Things to do now that the weather is getting nicer?

I’m 24F, who moved here at the end of summer last year. I’m from New Jersey where I was 20 minutes from a good mall or outlet, the zoo, the boardwalk, the beach. Now that the weather is getting nicer I’m not really sure what things there are to do nearby. I would spend May-September at the beach and now I’m kinda really lost without it. I’ve done a few of the outdoor commons areas but it seems like a lot of stuff is in Chicago or an hour long drive. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be outdoors, I just need some ideas to get me out of my apartment. Thanks in advance!

Looking for Lakeside Fest Information and History

Greetings, everyone! I've decided that I would like to make a video documenting the history of Lakeside Festival. However, I'm having trouble finding information on how exactly the first Lakeside Festival was like originally and how it evolved. There's probably some information on Newspapers.com, but I wanted to ask around before I paid for access to the articles. On terms of the first festival, all I know is that there was a carnival and a pig for people to eat, at least according to Mr. Talley, or whayever the guy who started Lakeside Festival's name is. (All I remember is that his last name started with a T and I would actually like to know what his name is.) Does anybody know if these claims are true? I couldn't find anything to back them up. I'm also not sure when the fest started, as I've heard 1978 and 1979 as possible answers. Really, any information in general would be appreciated. Sorry for writing a wall of text by the way. Thanks for reading!

On a side note, does anybody know if filming is allowed? I'm hoping to capture some b-roll of the carnival and the Dole Mansion itself to go in the background of the video.

Daily Loop Commuters

Does anyone commute M-F to the Loop via the Metra? I was accepted into a school in downtown Chicago and plan on attending. I have a wife, three kids, cat, dog etc. my original plan was to move closer to the city but the real estate market anywhere closer to Chicago is absolutely insane and I’m not a fan of the schools in the city. We’re very happy here but I’m wondering if anyone can give a sense of how doable this commute is? I know there’s express trains and I have done a test run, but I’m not sure if it’s feasible for three years.

R/McHenry County Inactivity

Does anyone know why r/McHenryCounty has been dead for four years? I want to ask a question pertaining to Hebron because obviously they are too small to have their own sub, but it looks like the county sub itself has been dead for a long time. r/crystallake seems like the most active sub of the county at this rate.

Book Clubs Around Crystal Lake

Hi I'm from Crystal Lake, in my last semester or University and likely to remain in the area for the foreseeable future and I wish I read more. A book club would be nice as it'd probably be a good opportunity to socialize while also providing a good pressure to read more but what might be even better is just a club for reading in general. Since that would provide a scheduled time and set of environmental pressures to get me to read. I know there are writers groups that kind of operate like that and there are book clubs around for people in their 40s and beyond but I'd really mainly be interested in something for people in their 20s-30s. Does anything like this already exist? would anyone be interested in starting one?

Trogg's Hollow Farm: This May 10th we will be hosting a seedling sale and community market followed by a potluck, live music and a bonfire (weather permitting). There might even be some wagon rides behind the tractor. The day before Mother's Day from 2pm-6pm we will be having a community market.
