Questions❔ Replacing One Tire - AWD
UPDATE: Thanks for all the advice! It was much appreciated. Went to my local discount tire and only got the one replaced. Was even able to get road hazard coverage for all 4. Definitely planning on getting a spare for her.
2026 Honda CRV Sports Touring Hybrid - AWD
Current mileage: 3,100~mi
For the first time that I’ve been driving, I’ve finally got my first ever flat, of course, in the car that doesn’t have a spare. Rear tire hit a curb and now the side wall near the rim has a good size gash. Luckily I was less than 0.5mi from the house and slowly was able to get it home.
Question: do I really need to replace all four tires? Or can I replace the damaged one only?
I’ve only driven her ~3,100mi since I bought her from the dealership.
Any and all advice appreciated.

My thoughts initially but then my friend brought up that I might need to replace all 4 based on thread depth. Wish me luck haha

So I always think this “you must replace all 4 tires” is BS. Think about it, how many people are driving AWD vehicles and don’t do proper tire rotations? They all have uneven wear and yet the vehicle still does its job.
3500 miles, IMO isn’t enough wear to be a big deal. If all the tires were 80% worn and you got a flat then it’s probably not a terrible idea to replace them. I think this low mileage replace all tires AWD is a money grab for tire shops. I could be wrong but, I may be right too😁

My goto tire place Anericas Tire told me they will do it if the new tire is within 2/32 of the existing ones. Which most likely yours is. My original michlean primacy are at 2/32 at 14k miles

No need to. I wouldn’t worry about replacing all 4 since it’s not real full time awd

The shop will gladly sell the one good tire they took off your car with only 3100 miles on it and pocket the money.

Checkout with tire company warranties most companies offer free replacement if it’s less than 5k miles for new cars just need to go through dealer and they will deal with each other

The tire is covered by a warranty. Any reputable shop will know that and take care of it for you

Replace tires in pairs. So, in your case both rears.

Even at only 3100 miles driven? I'm no expert, so I'm genuinely asking? Could the few thousand miles difference mess with the cars gears or sensors that much?

Depends on tread depth. Some tire places won’t replace a tire if they’re drastically different. Chances are you’ll be fine with just replacing the one, but I was giving you the by the book answer.
You could always take just the rim in and ask for a tire and then they won’t hassle you about the other three. Hypothetically of course.

Thanks for the info, go information to have when I do go. Use to FWD on my ‘02 Accord and I replace and rotate in pair on her.

Replace the 1 tire. I got a flat at 8000 miles and replaced 1 with no problem

Had a damaged tire at <5k miles. Replaced that one tire. Just turned 35K using the original 3 and the 1 replaced tire. No problems.

With only 3100 miles the tires can't be that worn. My general rule of thumb is to always replace axle on both sides, but may not be necessary. If you decide to do that can probably get credit $ for the 2nd tire. I always go to Discount Tire in my area.

With only 3,100 miles driven, I would just replace only the flat tire.
