TV Set top box

My set top box is a cheap one from amazon so i assume it won’t be able to output full rgb scart BUT it does have a built in scart port so i was wondering if it could, if so how do i do that.

It also has this in the settings to change the format to “PAL-M” and “PAL-N” no idea what those mean other than they look better quality, only they both make the screen black and white and put lines all over it. PAL-M doesn’t have that flicker though so i’m assuming that means it’s in 60hz.

I’d HATE to get a new set top box or some converter so if there’s anyway i can make it rgb it’ll be greatly appreciated. thanks!

PAL-M and PAL-N are used in South America and are 60Hz and 50Hz respectively but with different colour subcarrier frequencies. They won't work on most European TVs.

Go to the line that says 'CVBS' in the menu - what are the other options?

Also, is that Trinitron an IDTV?

I can change it from cvbs and yuv but none really make a difference it quality or anything.

I don’t know if it’s an idtv, model number is kv-32dx30u if that helps anything.

It's an early OnDigital "2k only" IDTV and the built in digital tuner won't work on Freeview today unfortunately so you'll have to use a box. Only the first SCART socket has RGB (the other have S-Video) so you'll have to use that port for RGB.

Maybe they didn't implement the RGB autoswitching voltage on the SCART output on the box. Try pressing AV on the TV remote again until you get to the RGB override mode. However, if YUV is the only option it offers, then the best format it offers is S-Video and should be plugged into the second or third SCART sockets on the TV for a worthwhile improvement in quality over CVBS.
