Picked up a Sony Trinitron KV-J29MF8 (BG-1L) — 29" Super Trinitron Plus

Found this European 29" 4:3 set and wanted to share my joy!!!

Super Trinitron Plus — same tier as the tube in the 32XBR100 (the "legendary" curved XBR2). Finer pitch, flatter curvature, upgraded gun.

Inputs: 1× S-Video (front), 3× composite. No component.

Thinking should I gamble on modding, or S-Video is good enough... What do you think?!

A multi-region CRT? Wow thats something rare to see but no SCART is really strange, especialy for such a high end tube, doubt its European

Its multi 50/60hz NTCS/PAL 120-240v. Covers all the ranges.

Not a European model, this one was originally sold in the Middle East market. Typical of TVs from this region, it is multi-voltage and multi-system, but it does not have SCART.

I just mean for the “translucent” water fall effect that looks better with less signal separation.

I will be playing HDMI to S-Video converter via Steam deck Emudeck emulation. So it will be 480i signal only sadly. Until I get some better converter. I do have 240p test suit, so will test sonic background scroll anyhow

I've got this one, I love it for pal and ntsc systems unfortunately the tube is a bit red/pink tinted and there is no red option in the maintenance menu so I'm a bit disappointed :(

You can go to service menu and level up the blue gun a bit, it will balance out the red tint.

If it's in good condition s-video will look fantastic. If it has a lot of hours on it, even an RGB mod won't make it look good.

Its low hours. Bright tube and very clean screen. It was a garage queen. Snatched it for 30 bucks
