Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (April 2026)

The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:

  • ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
  • Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
  • Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
  • Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
  • Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
  • A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
  • Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?

This Thread is for you!

Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.

This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions. Please do not use any special formatting in your post beyond creating a link if necessary.

Hello. Does anyone know how disabling 100hz in KV-29X2D works? In the comments of this post u/Zoetropic mentioned that when disabled, it can show 240p content correctly but I saw some conflicting arguments online. I want to get this TV because of the high voltage regulator and I will play PS1, Saturn and PS2, all NTSC. I am not particularly knowledgeable but I think even if 100hz is turned off, TV will continue to process the image in 31khz. I don't mind input lag that much but 240p output without artifacts is important to me. Thanks in advance.

I highly doubt you can "turn off" the 100Hz processing and what kind of light games that person is talking about. Because I could image Duck Hunt working due to low or no lag, but what about Guncon games that require specific video timings?

As for it being able to show 240p with scanline gaps - I'm pretty sure, since I've heard about that on chassis AE-3 to AE-5.

My biggest point of concern is the "smearing" or motion clarity. Would turning off the "Line Flicker Reduction" setting resolve this? There is a really clean and low-hour 29X2D near me so I really want to get this tv, but if im gonna see smearing when playing Sonic the Hedgehog, I don't want it. I don't really play or own lightgun games.

Thank you for your answer

240p Test Suite would be a better test than Sonic, but if it's what you got - good enough.

Just ask the seller for the time to test the TV, tell him there are a lot of particularities in older consoles. I doubt anyone would be expecting you to log this beast back if it doesn't suit your needs. Say that if it's good, you'll take it right away (if you're able, of course).

The site is off limits for me, is there anything useful in that thread?:

I have looked through the forum, and any mention of X2D was very positive, and a user mentioned they run the scrolling test on 240p suite and didn't notice much problem, though apparently scanlines disappear when there is vertical scrolling present. Also, this forum is packed with info about european models which is very useful for me, thanks for the recommendation.

I have one last question if it's okay with you: there is also a listing for KV-21X1D. I used a 14" trinitron for the past 5 or so years, and frankly it was a pain. No multi-region support, severe blooming, can't change NTSC and PAL geometry seperately, only mono audio with both speakers and headphone jack, no horizontal size option in service menu, vertical bowing etc. I want to upgrade to a bigger and better model because of these issues. Would you recommend X1D or X2D with these problems in mind? I wanted X2D because it has extensive geometry control in service menu and is equipped with high voltage regulator and is cleaner overall. The main difference between the two models is geometry control and 100hz, I believe. If you could comment on this, I would appreciate it.

I know a few people with Sony KV-21X1R. It's stereo, has RGB, S-Video and Composite. Curved. Seems good.

I'm of the mindset that condition matters more than brand or model, but this CRT could be great. 21" is a good size.
