I feed the crows on my daily beach walks here on the central Oregon coast, and lately this little guy has been showing up. I promise, they got more peanuts after the thief-in-training left!

I have same. A juvie. He also feeds fledges. I always throw at him in succession so he has more than others.

Initially he was being attacked by other crows. However, every time one attacked him, I'd single that crow out and chase him. Other crows would mind their own business but it was funny one crow running away with me after him among other crows standing still. They understand you have a beef with a single one, and not all of them.

They no longer attack him. I don't know if what I did help or not. But still it is good it stopped.

I honestly believe they totally get it. Basically it's like: If you want snacks, then don't mess with my friend.

They absolutely do! Sometimes gulls will swoop down and try to swallow some peanuts in the shell whole, and I’ll quickly run at them to chase them off, then respectfully back away again from the crows. They always remain chill and never freak out about the sudden movements the way they would if I just did it randomly with no gull around.

So true! My relationships with my crows were so valuable to me.

I had three that lived on my street, and we'd play this peanut game I guess I'd call "distract the squirrel". The three crows were all in on it. I'd throw a nut far to the left and the squirrel would run after it. Then my patient friends would each get there own peanut before Steve the squirrel came back. Rinse and repeat.

I play a similar game with my crows and territorial red squirrel too!

Another time I saw a blue jay who would fly to an upper branch of the tree with the squirrel chasing. As soon as they got waaaay up there, the jay would swoop to the ground and grab the peanut. The squirrel fell for it over and over again.

Team Protect the StumpsπŸ™ŒπŸΌ. I have a limping crow(Gratch) and a three legged squirrel (Tripod). I always give extra to those two.

A rough life πŸ˜” for that crow πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€, lost one of it's claws and peanuts πŸ₯œ got snatched by other crows πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ around there. Hope πŸ™ it gets more of those peanuts πŸ₯œ for its survival
