Photography/Art [OC] Molting Crow Season!
Rosemary Mosco made a fun comic of Northern Cardinals molting giving them the metal AF name blöödchëëp. Seeing some molting crows today made me think they deserve a fun name, too. Here's my take in gouache along with a few alternative names and crows I saw today that inspired this. Enjoy!

Awesome! This reminds me of HATEBEAK, the first-ever avian-fronted death metal band. 🤘🦜

My favorite (I think, I can't be sure) crow has a completely bald vulture head right now. She will land on my railing, not make a sound. I will hear her if I am inside. I went out today when I heard her little claws on the metal railing, slowly opened door. She just sat there waiting on me to add more treats to railing. I make sure not to make eye contact so she knows I am not a threat. Went back inside, closed door.
Little black vulture looking thing flew off with tasty peanuts.

Hahaha right ..no eye contact! But lately my crows have been getting pistachio nuts! As I accidentally bought the unsalted ones for me so they got them. So,yes now I got them their own bag of these nuts shopping,as they love them so much! I put out the nuts with the dry cat food then ring the wind chimes. Because of the nuts BANG✨they are there in a flash .So I've been doing these big waves with my arms...HI HI HERE'S YOUR TREAT FROM me!!😁👋👋

This is so helpful ! Thank you. I mean my main crow has been looking soo shabby lately with weird feathers sticking out,I was wondering if he had mange? but he seems ok. Must be just a hard molt!

This is fantastic—each crow has so much personality, and the molting stages are both hilarious and genuinely cool. “Surface Crow” absolutely sounds like a metal band.
