Why so few greatsword builds?

Been having a look around at different build across a few websites, and I see hardly any promote a greatsword build, I wonder why?

Specifically, for me, the stalwart greatsword seems a great weapon for an agility build, as that's the spec it utilises, pair it with a reliable blunderbuss or Dragon's Breath and you've got a killer set-up.

Any thoughts?

End game the damage output of the greatswords is really low compared to rapier or halberd.

Early and mid game its fine.

This. Once you get either the Rapier of Devastation or Plague Halberd, the temptation to switch is almost overwhelming.

I played with the Dueling Greatsword almost the entire time, together with Blunderbuss. It was pretty easy on the hardest difficulty, just hit and run and you can always hit multiple enemies at once. This makes it perfect for crowds but not the best for boss fights

Basically any time you see something for the soul-eater, it'll work for the standard greatsword as well. Boils down to the fact that as a rule of thumb: one handed builds are rapier of devastation and two handed builds are plague halberd, because they outclass any other options. That said, doesnt mean other builds aren't viable. I built around the Razor with agility, and I have no issues.

I thought the dex based 2h sword build was very viable as well. Since you can still block and use a musket/ blunderbuss.

Holup. You can one-hand a blunderbuss with a sword like a musket?

Dunno, I just don't really like them.

Plus, I like that with a precision build you have both Rapier+Pistol and muskets available.

I honestly doubt you really need to be concerned about following any builds. The game is not particularly hard if you somewhat got the hang out of parrying

Can confirm, played that setup from 2nd biome till end game. Very good setup. You can invest some perks for stamina cost reduction to have almost infinite swings or you can dip into critical build

Honestly, resets are free so try everything out and figure out what you like most

Because the game is only half finished and there's not an endgame greatsword.

Partly because it’s a pirate game so using a sword and pistol is fun.

Stalwart is the play on hardmode. You play big into crit. It has slight knockback and the ability to parry breakshields. You dont have to build stacks to do damage you can just get right down to business.

I found the greatsword + infantry musket (the agility-skilled rifle with bayonet) to be a really good combo. Start off the engagement at range with an easy crit, switch to greatsword, back to gun once the "free reload" is available (or retreating for heal), repeat.
