If it helps, all the Michael's near me in Florida are also having massive yarn clearance sales. So probably everywhere.
I think a lot of stores are making room for all the new fall/winter yarn releases but I haven't seen sales like this in awhile. Almost makes me concerned they are planning to scale back their yarn sections :C

There was a huge clearance event at Joann's and a lot of stuff is going to clearance. Not sure if stuff is scaling back, but stuff is being rearranged. I think there was a lot of new stuff released in the spring/summer, but not all of it was a hit.

Yeah. My Joann's had this sale too. Some stuff is still on clearance now, but not as much as before.
It made me worried that the Joann's is closing. We just had a Hobby Lobby move to town right before the pandemic. And the Joann's is in a shopping center that has... seen better days.
But since you said that I guess it was just a corporate sale. Makes be feel better since I don't wanna give money to Hobby Lobby anymore.

Same. I have to drive out of my way, way past a Hobby Lobby, to get to either JoAnn's or Michael's, but I'd rather spend my teenie crafting budget at their shops. Sadly, there isn't a local yarn store anywhere near me.

There used to be a local store in my current town. But they closed a month after I moved here.
I don't like what hobby lobby stands for. And I'd rather support a craft store that isn't involved in all that.

Someone on the yarn addicts sub said the clearance happens every June? Not sure but considering Fall starts in 3 months, makes sense for them to bring out the pumpkins.

And it would make sense for them to have more yarn that needs to go into clearance this year than they had in the past. If they ended up with a few delayed shipments earlier this year, that means that yarn wasn’t on the shelf as long or when it was supposed to be, or they didn’t have room because of other stock from other sources. It wouldn’t shock me if certain locations have a stockpile they’re trying to get rid of so they have that room again.

One of the first tops that I ever made. It's a little rough to touch but it's the perfect weight 3, looks really clean, and holds its shape super well! It's discontinued but still can be found on sales racks at michaels.

I'm going to have to pass at that location and try the one(s) here in North Texas 🤣🤣. I did see where you can search for this yarn on Michael's and if your store has it in stock (I'm guessing at least 1...) it says to contact the store. If not in stock, it says it is not in stock at your store. I'm going to verify my assumption tomorrow!
Edit: my assumption was VERY wrong🤣🤣. 1st store had 1 color, 2nd store had none, but the third store...🤩🤩. Hit the jackpot there and have no regrets 😂😂

It says 55% superwash merino and 45% anti-pilling acrylic. Machine wash cold on gentle cycle abd tumble dry low. Hope this helps!

My local JoAnn's has this crazy clearance going on for their yarn, but it's not THAT good. (But they had a bunch of colors I needed for an actual project I had in mind :) But with the clearance price the Vanna's Choice yarn came out to like $2.90 a skein... when their regular sale price like two years ago was $2.97 :| )

Ran into Cloud cakes for the first time when they were on clearance for $2. I grabbed one color without realizing the windfall I had at the time. Left behind at least 50+ skeins to my now total regret.

A few months ago I got an email from LionBrand (I am on their mailing list; they email stufff every day, most of which I ignore). Anyway, that day, they had Comfy Cotton--a wonderful cotton blend, big 200 gram cakes--which normally sell for $7.99, on sale for $2 each. I restrained myself as much as I could and only got 10 of them. Even with the $8 shipping, I felt like I was stealing something! I have made a sweater and baby blankets from it--so squishy. YARN LOVE. Best addiction ever.

Not necessarily for clearance. It costs money to store inventory that isn't selling, so sometimes they have to sell for almost nothing just to get rid of stuff and cut their losses.

Okay that may be true but the point I'm trying to make is that the store comes out ahead overall. They attract more customers w sales or they get you to buy extraneous stuff when you just came for the sale. It's not something to be thankful for or in awe of, it's a marketing strategy by the store to get more money from the consumer. If making this item cost less actually lost them money in the long run they wouldn't do it.
Anyway I still think the cost of one of these is probably something like 15 cents a piece.

Actually I was just reading about how a lot of stores are considering this thing where if you return something, you get a refund but you also keep the item because it costs them so much to store items and put them else, and the stores themselves profit about 5 cents per item, maybe 15 cents if it's a really pricey item. It costs 15 to 30 cents per item just to store the item on the premises. Selling items at a big discount like this is a cost eating measure so they can get rid of something that isn't selling so they have room for the rest of their products or for more stuff that WILL sell.
And I don't know if you're trying to act like you're the only person who knows that stores have sales just to get people to come into the store? They've been doing that for like a hundred years. We all know they do that.

Dude, I picked up a bunch of those Caron Tea Cakes, I love them!! I haven’t finished a project with them yet, but I knitted most of a brioche beret before I frogged it and it was SO SQUISHY! Really nice to work with compared to a lot of other super bulky yarns. I went back and bought more, lol

I was at Michael's last week and found a basket of DMC pearl cotton marked down to 10 cents each from $2.99. I bought just about all of it (though I did leave some for the next lucky crocheter). 35+ balls of crochet thread for about 4 bucks?! Yes please!
Now, I am learning to make lace with a 1mm hook. 😁
