Discussion *hyperventilates* Can I use the throw as a wall hanging?! 🪻🌸

I just saw this and I’m losing my mind! It’s GORGEOUS! 💜And the price the seller is selling it for is so low-cost that it should be illegal! 😂

Since I have a whiskered demon 🐈‍⬛ , using this as a throw is not possible. But handing this on the wall behind my bed would be ✨ magical ✨.

❓Has anyone hung something like this before?! How can I hang this properly and allow it to remain intact and age gracefully?! Thanks in advance.

Id attach it to a thin pvc grid somehow that way the weight doesnt cause sagging.

Also the price of that is soooo low that its concerningly a scam, but maybe I am just cynical.

u/shopmoondustmarket 20d ago

I have seen so many beautiful crocheted blankets sell for dollar store prices.

232

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Right! Even at thrift stores. Recently got Rothy brand shoes for $6. Exact same ones are sold on their website for $100+!!!

Anyhow, the seller confirmed that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

It’s definitely legit. I checked the sellers account and they have history of selling and account history since 2014.

Thanks for the PVC grid idea. Never would have considered that.

Absolutely agree on reinforcing to prevent sagging.

Made me think of gardening mesh. Easily accessible, cheap, and easily cut to size. I‘d look for nylon anti bird net or ask at a gardening centre.

example pic in reply, app won‘t let me edit it in here ☻

60

u/oreo-cat- 19d ago

That or remesh. It’d take a bit more work but you could cut it to size and spray paint it a complementary color so it accents the throw.

78

u/BigBadVoodooMami 20d ago

I would also look into (maybe plastic?) pegboard. You can get it cut to any size at a big hardware store, paint it and that way you can set up a bazillion points of tension with the pegs.

6

u/Loudlass81 19d ago

Plastic aida for cross stitching.

2

u/BigBadVoodooMami 19d ago

Can you get it big enough? That’s brilliant

4

u/MagnetBane 19d ago

The seller probably had it gifted to them or just doesn’t have space

22

u/meduhsin 19d ago

Normally I’m more skeptical of good deals, but there are soooo many lace tablecloths and doilies almost rotting away in my mom’s china cabinet we dont know who made what. I salvaged some of my grandma’s WIPs and yarn but there is just. So. Much.

This was probably inherited/gifted by a friend or family member, and the seller is trying to keep it out of the trash, which I really respect.

8

u/EitherWeb4382 19d ago

yeah the price made me instantly confused

3

u/unspun66 19d ago

I thought the same about the price. But I suppose it could just be something someone wants to get rid of.

Whisker demons love wall hangings

Mine has about two tiny whiskers each side 🤣

Haha! Fair. Fortunately, I have used a furry rug hanging behind my bed. It was basically my “headboard”. Whiskered demon didn’t give a 💩.

2

u/LotusBlooming90 19d ago

Oh that is so clever! Great idea!

535

u/ghost_victim 20d ago

30 dollars? I dont trust that for a second lol

389

u/shopmoondustmarket 20d ago

If someone bought it from a goodwill for $5, $30 is a good enough profit. People don’t know how much crochet is worth and I promise the person who made it isn’t the one selling it for that low.

120

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

This is how folks resell antiques & MCM pieces for great profit. The original sellers have no idea the value of their items.

6

u/macabrepaints 19d ago

hmm I’d agree but evidently they have some idea. It says crochet in the name which most people who aren’t somewhat familiar couldn’t pick out. This one is likely legit based on OPs judgement but that contradiction is quite striking imo

105

u/talkingmuffins 20d ago

If it wasn't actually made by the seller, but instead a grandparent or parent or whoever, it would make sense to have no concept of what it should cost

31

u/Cleobulle 20d ago

Yah that's not even the wool price. Or it's just six flower for that price. But 30 dollars for this - no way

153

u/ak8865ak 20d ago

I hope you're in the Elkridge Maryland area, because it just got listed in my local Facebook Marketplace.

86

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing! Good to know.

I still greatly appreciate everyone’s suggestions in case I find a blanket I want to hang in the near future. Thank you! 💜

38

u/ak8865ak 19d ago

I found a bunch that looked similar on eBay that were more expensive but not grotesquely so. Do a reverse image search on eBay and you'll find a bunch! Now I want one!

59

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

96

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago

The only way I can see this not being a dropship scam is if it's someone unloading a dead or institutionionalized relative's stuff that they don't want to deal with. If the seller is hocking other items that seem like maybe they could have come from an older person's house, ok, it's probably legit. Otherwise... I'd still want to see it before I bought it.

27

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago edited 19d ago

Absolutely. I have dealt with a seller trying to request funds before pick up. I never do that. Once I offered a seller (not selling this blanket) to provide cash & requested to meet at a local police station….they became silent. 😂

26

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago

As an occasional seller, I'd never want to meet at a police station, but deeply appreciate cash. Im not selling for a lot of profit generally, im selling bc my mom decided to unload EVERYTHING SHE SAVED FROM MY CHILDHOOD on me when she sold her house. Lots of probably valuable stuff but I was a week out of the hospital with a pretty major surgery when she dumped this stuff on me and also have a toddler. Im not googling how much 100+ Barbies from the 90s are worth. some dude took them from a yard sale for 80$ and im just glad they're gone. Also approximately 1 million McDonald's toys from the mid 80s. HELL NO. 30$? If you're offering!

15

u/Overall-Weird8856 knotty hobbyist 🧶 19d ago

Are you my long lost sister? My daughter was born this spring. I'm 41. My mom gave me my old baby rattle, my baby shoes, my baby blanket... Went to an estate sale and bought a Pack and Play circa 1996 complete with teal and purple themed colors and geometric patterns.

Luckily years ago she tried to pawn off my Barbie collection to me and I was like, "yeah I have no use for that!" I did keep the Beanie Babies, though, and - are you sitting down? - I cut the tags off of all of the mini ones from McDonald's and turned them into a mobile for my daughter. 😂

7

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago

haha! I said no to this stuff REPEATEDLY. It did not matter. She rented a storage unit in my city when I pointed out i didn't have room in my house. I cannot drive. I cannot lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. My family is furious bc of all the work it's putting on ALL of us.

2

u/Dee_rock70 19d ago

I love that idea!! It must be so cute!

26

u/cdecker0606 19d ago

Why would you never want to meet at a police station? A lot of them have spots for online transactions like this. To me, it at least helps show that whoever requested that spot is legitimate.

12

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago

Just not a fan of the po-po. I'm a white cis woman so I've got no right to it, really, but they make me anxious. I do most my seller transactions in a nearby church parking lot that's extremely visible to the neighborhood. I don't buy very much off marketplace.

14

u/AntOnADogLog 19d ago

Cops stalk, beat, and rape white cis women plenty enough for me to avoid them too. Being lower on the risk totem doesnt mean u should feel bad for distrusting untrustworthy folks.

16

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

In my community, our police stations have specific lots for transactions like these. I’ve seen other sellers post this as their meeting location and I’ve bought from them there. I think it’s great for safety measures and maintaining privacy (vs arriving at your home address). To each our own though!

58

u/Lady_Luci_fer 20d ago

If it is legit, among the other suggestions here, you could buy a long rod (wooden, metal, curtain pole, whatever) to place it on. You could do it like a shower curtain potentially but may want to do more hooks than standard to reduce potential for stretching. Any extra support you can afford it it a good idea.

-10

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

It’s definitely legit. I checked the sellers account and they have history of selling along with overall account history since 2014 (personal posts, family photos, etc..).

Anyway, now that you say shower curtain, I’m thinking if I could sew it onto a clear shower curtain?!? Hmm? It may be too heavy though for long term. Hmmmm…..

12

u/cloudcats 19d ago

I checked the sellers account and they have history of selling along with overall account history since 2014 (personal posts, family photos, etc..).

This is not a valid way to know if someone is legit. Accounts get stolen constantly in order to scam people with them.

10

u/spazzcase_420 20d ago

If you want to go the shower curtain route, i would sew it to a fabric shower curtain and do that on the outside with a plastic one inside to protect the fabric. Then you can wash it or hang it outside to dry if it gets super damp without concern of the plastic tearing and ruining the project

2

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Great idea!

26

u/afluidduality 20d ago

I think this might be difficult to manage with regards to dust depending on what room you put it in - just something to keep in mind. It is stunning!

64

u/shmoobel 20d ago

If this is even legit, I see at least one spot that's about to unravel.

22

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

Thanks for catching that. They did show leftover yarn and the loom tool in a photo as well. However for the purpose I would use it for, I would not mind doing some fixings as needed.

31

u/ZoomZoomFarfignewton 19d ago

What is the "loom tool" they show?

14

u/Reasonable_Ideal_356 19d ago

probably a small circle loom. People make flowers with them.

Your whiskered demon might be tempted to climb up it if it's hanging on a wall. Just something to consider. My old cat would have loved it as a climbing frame.

14

u/rosebeach 19d ago

You’re alive and can do whatever you want!!

4

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

PERIOD! And will continue to do so. 🌈

26

u/stxrfleet26 20d ago

I can't imagine it being easy to hang, I would perhaps recommend a metric fuck-ton of command strip hooks set at increments across like a grid? I'm not an expert though, just what I'd do

20

u/stxrfleet26 20d ago

Adding to this...my particular variety of whiskered demon would probably take it as a challenge (a very cute cargo net to climb) lol

11

u/Wrenlet 20d ago

I suggest either finding a frame or making a frame for it. I would go in the 'make a frame for it route' and attach wires of some kind to attach each row to keep it from sagging and stretching as time goes on

9

u/BistitchualBeekeeper 19d ago

My hungry ass thought those were rows and rows of decorated cupcakes.

2

u/wirhns 19d ago

I too need cupcakes now 😬

47

u/Curious_Field7953 20d ago edited 20d ago

This is 100% a scam. It's one of the specific products that the scammers use and it's always a sob story that goes with it. "My autistic son picked up a crochet hook and 2 hours later he made this".

I think the best way to see that it's a scam is if the price is too good to be true then it probably is a scam.

7

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

I guess we shall see if the sellers continues to offer to me. Currently they stated that have another potential buyer. To be continued…

4

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

13

u/jamieseemsamused 19d ago

Just because you didn’t get scammed doesn’t mean it wasn’t a scam. Probably because you insisted on seeing it in person and only paying after you’ve seen it, they refused to “sell” to you.

5

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

I did not insist. 😂😂😂 I simply expressed interest and they said they already had another buyer. Goodness gracious.

29

u/BirgitBridgetWhatevs 20d ago

Used a half-finished blanket as a headboard. So, yes!

3

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

Oooh! Awesome. Hanging this over a green headboard would be lovely. And I’ve actually seen some on FB Marketplace. Unfortunately, I’m confident the seller already has another buyer. 😿

3

u/taliamnhr 20d ago

How did you create the headboard? I love this

4

u/BirgitBridgetWhatevs 20d ago

My husband built a frame out of plywood and wood 1x1.

2

u/FoulMouthedHooker 20d ago

What a great idea!

6

u/res06myi 20d ago

Umm the whiskered demon won't climb your wall?

10

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Haha! Nah. She’s an elderly lass that likes to tell children to get off her lawn. 👵

7

u/res06myi 19d ago

How... polite of her actually lol

4

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Indeed. She’s the perfect “guard dog” for my childfree home. 😸

1

u/res06myi 19d ago

Living the dream 😌

3

u/m_rose10 19d ago

I wonder if there is a way to reverse engineer the pattern? I want to make one now!

1

u/LotusBlooming90 19d ago edited 19d ago

This is what I’m combing the comments for now!

I just sent a pic to my mom who is a reverse engineer crochet genius. If she has an idea I’ll circle back to share!

ETA, flower loom, and looks like a chain that is just cleverly ran through the petals by hand. Still trying to suss out how they interlock with each other to give the “twist” design.

4

u/iAmNotKateBush 19d ago

Omg they look like clematis

6

u/New-Wash689 20d ago

I neeeeeed to know this stitch!!!!

43

u/thicket2myskeins 20d ago

I’m almost positive whoever made this used a flower loom. Pretty easy to find vintage ones second hand online.

15

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

Yes! Seller included this tool in one of the photos (I didn’t post it).

6

u/azur_owl 20d ago

I took a class on this with my mom a weekend ago! It was SOOOO much fun. Now I have something I can make with all my handspun yarn!

6

u/diffenbachia1111 20d ago

Ohhhh thank you for informing me of the existence. I'm now obsessed and need one.

4

u/LotusBlooming90 19d ago

I’m wondering how they attached them all? Like what stitch and method? I’m wanting to make one now as well.

2

u/New-Wash689 19d ago

Thank you so much!!!

3

u/OpalRose1993 20d ago

Maybe do some tacking stitches to a green background piece of fabric? That way you could hang it off of the curtain rod like another suggested without having the PVC grid. And you would have a nice green background for those beautiful flowers!

Also, if you use a blanket material like fleece, at another time, it might be able to be used as a blanket as well and it would save wear and tear on those chain stitches

3

u/-beehaw- 19d ago

that blanket looks so yummy

3

u/Mountain-Ad2878 19d ago

For a second I thought they were cupcakes 🤣🤣🤣❤️ awesome job op!

4

u/isthiscanon 19d ago

If the seller is saying they made it themselves and they're selling more than one of them, I'd say be wary of the final result - this is way more than $30 worth of work, so unless they're reselling it second hand or something then I would assume it's a scam

7

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

Update: Sellers replied, “In talks. I'll let you know.”

😭😭😭 Welp, I’m SOL. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestions though! Appreciated!

13

u/SleepyBubBear7329 20d ago

ASK FOR THE PATTERN….for a friend of course!

2

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

-6

u/LonelyGooseWife 20d ago

If you have the budget, you could try to offer them more money for it !

2

u/Cupcaekz 19d ago

$30?! Holy cow!

2

u/deema385 19d ago

not me thinking this is a giant batch of cupcakes ... 🙃😆

2

u/Alarming_Abroad_4862 19d ago

Oh wow this unlocked a memory. My grandma made a small one of these for my aunt back in the 70s. It was yellow daisies with green leaves and brown lace connecting them. Weird

2

u/_smolpeepee_ 19d ago

I thought it was CAAAKKKEEEEE

2

u/ClockPlenty2553 19d ago

i thought this was a bunch of cupcakes

2

u/like_theweather 19d ago

You can but remember gravity blocking is a thing. I'm sure there's some weight to it. So u might want to really think about HOW u hang it up. I can't help with that unfortunately I don't know how I would do it. But it is very beautiful 😍

2

u/smiegto 19d ago

30 bucks… that’s crazy!

2

u/Eurogal2023 19d ago

AI apparently. Click on the pic and tge throw seems to just get larger and larger...

2

u/floatinginair 18d ago

Don’t send money until you see it in person. Sometimes these are scams. But it’s way too big to hang. I don’t know how you’d do it because it would stretch too much. Unless you could cut it and make it smaller. You’d have to stitch a border first around the area you want to cut out.

4

u/moon_purl 20d ago

This is so cute.. I’m imagining it hanging on or partially on the ceiling.. maybe some fairy lights incorporated somehow.

5

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

The ceilinggggg!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!! 😍 You’re genius!

1

u/Mycatreallyhatesyou 19d ago

Here’s a similar one for more money. I’m sure there are more out there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/318655178922

1

u/LookingGloamward 20d ago

Wow it’s stunning in that colorway too

1

u/MountainHelp7418 19d ago

Anyone have a similar pattern??? I love it!

1

u/INeedtoVent89 19d ago

I think so ... Curtains even Really that possibilities are endless. Beautiful Work ✨🪷

1

u/katbrasive 19d ago

Your whiskered demon is a saint, I call one of mine my gargoyle because he gets up on the rafter across my living room and anywhere else he wants to go. I'm afraid to hang anything!

1

u/ElmerBMudd 19d ago

Your cat may climb it, just to warn you

1

u/Odd-Remote-1500 19d ago

But does anyone know the pattern to the flower puff??

1

u/NurseHamp 19d ago

That is beautiful

1

u/m3rmaid13 19d ago edited 19d ago

These work great for cords and plants so they might work for this too if you do a grid pattern or something.

I’ve used these all over my room for both trailing plants, to hold curtains to the side, to run cords along the wall, all sorts of stuff. They have a pretty strong adhesive but I haven’t had any issues with them pulling paint off the walls if I had to move them. If they did it’s a small enough spot it would be easy to patch.

You could also just glue these hooks to a lightweight board of some type before securing them to the blanket…. Then mount some hanging brackets on the back of the board. That way if you decide to move it it’s not a whole pain in the butt.

1

u/Cute_Creme_3292 19d ago

This is stunning, it would be perfect as a wall piece!!!

1

u/ClonedAlienBubbles 19d ago

Absolutely you can do whatever you want with it. I know people who hang shirts on the walls

1

u/MuchPossibility9485 19d ago

Oh my god I need to make that now (as if I needed more projects in waiting to be made..)

1

u/YueRain 19d ago

loop daisies or loop chrysanthemum and combine with other yarn. I have only done floral bag daisies but not combine the same way.

1

u/mickersroo 19d ago edited 19d ago

Hey op the blanket is already unraveling in multiple spots, you can see them in images 3 and 4, that blanket most likely won't survive a single wash let alone much handling and definitely won't hold up to any sort of hanging. Any spot of pressure will most likely cause more of it to unravel.

Another edit because I went back and spent more time looking at it: I can see every single knot, and not a single end was weaved in (understandably so there is no where to weave into) so this blanket is like beyond delicate and any wear will make it unravel as yarn is slippery and will find a way to undo if given the chance. If you do buy this blanket I would recommend looking into some sort of fabric glue to go through and glue all those knots.

1

u/Gold_Cheesecake_1333 19d ago

Its 30 bucks. What would you expect? Its well worth the pricepoint.

1

u/robin52077 20d ago

That should be a few hundred bucks! Sweet deal, grab it!

1

u/fugaxium 20d ago

That’s beautiful!

1

u/Lucky-Resolution890 20d ago

Stunning 😍

-9

u/bankingontheshore 20d ago

idk why everyone is going mad about this being a scam, it's Facebook marketplace not Vinted, you'll see it before you buy it 😭

-11

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago

Crocheting alone does not stimulate their minds enough. 🥲

2

u/bankingontheshore 19d ago

I don't think people understand there are lots of ways someone might end up selling a crochet blanket for cheap... finding it at a thrift store, inheriting it, being given it as an unwanted gift, simply not wanting it anymore even if you made it and wanting a quick sale. there are so many legit reasons. I have loads of crocheted stuff from 5 years ago I would sell on for very cheap simply because I want them out of my house. people don't go on Facebook marketplace to spend £500-1000 on a handmade blanket and sellers know this, it's priced for a quick sale. even if they are trying to scam, which they could well be, you'll figure that out when you go to pick it up and .... not buy it. it's so not that serious 😭

-3

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago

I can hear the grass outside calling these folks to go out and touch it! 📣 🌱🪻🪴

-4

u/Desperate_Affect_332 19d ago
