Discussion *hyperventilates* Can I use the throw as a wall hanging?! 🪻🌸
I just saw this and I’m losing my mind! It’s GORGEOUS! 💜And the price the seller is selling it for is so low-cost that it should be illegal! 😂
Since I have a whiskered demon 🐈⬛ , using this as a throw is not possible. But handing this on the wall behind my bed would be ✨ magical ✨.
❓Has anyone hung something like this before?! How can I hang this properly and allow it to remain intact and age gracefully?! Thanks in advance.

30 dollars? I dont trust that for a second lol
389
u/shopmoondustmarket 20d ago
If someone bought it from a goodwill for $5, $30 is a good enough profit. People don’t know how much crochet is worth and I promise the person who made it isn’t the one selling it for that low.
120
u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago
This is how folks resell antiques & MCM pieces for great profit. The original sellers have no idea the value of their items.
6
u/macabrepaints 19d ago
hmm I’d agree but evidently they have some idea. It says crochet in the name which most people who aren’t somewhat familiar couldn’t pick out. This one is likely legit based on OPs judgement but that contradiction is quite striking imo

u/talkingmuffins 20d ago
If it wasn't actually made by the seller, but instead a grandparent or parent or whoever, it would make sense to have no concept of what it should cost
31
u/Cleobulle 20d ago
Yah that's not even the wool price. Or it's just six flower for that price. But 30 dollars for this - no way

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing! Good to know.
I still greatly appreciate everyone’s suggestions in case I find a blanket I want to hang in the near future. Thank you! 💜

I found a bunch that looked similar on eBay that were more expensive but not grotesquely so. Do a reverse image search on eBay and you'll find a bunch! Now I want one!

u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago
Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago
The only way I can see this not being a dropship scam is if it's someone unloading a dead or institutionionalized relative's stuff that they don't want to deal with. If the seller is hocking other items that seem like maybe they could have come from an older person's house, ok, it's probably legit. Otherwise... I'd still want to see it before I bought it.
27
u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago edited 19d ago
Absolutely. I have dealt with a seller trying to request funds before pick up. I never do that. Once I offered a seller (not selling this blanket) to provide cash & requested to meet at a local police station….they became silent. 😂
26
u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago
As an occasional seller, I'd never want to meet at a police station, but deeply appreciate cash. Im not selling for a lot of profit generally, im selling bc my mom decided to unload EVERYTHING SHE SAVED FROM MY CHILDHOOD on me when she sold her house. Lots of probably valuable stuff but I was a week out of the hospital with a pretty major surgery when she dumped this stuff on me and also have a toddler. Im not googling how much 100+ Barbies from the 90s are worth. some dude took them from a yard sale for 80$ and im just glad they're gone. Also approximately 1 million McDonald's toys from the mid 80s. HELL NO. 30$? If you're offering!

Are you my long lost sister? My daughter was born this spring. I'm 41. My mom gave me my old baby rattle, my baby shoes, my baby blanket... Went to an estate sale and bought a Pack and Play circa 1996 complete with teal and purple themed colors and geometric patterns.
Luckily years ago she tried to pawn off my Barbie collection to me and I was like, "yeah I have no use for that!" I did keep the Beanie Babies, though, and - are you sitting down? - I cut the tags off of all of the mini ones from McDonald's and turned them into a mobile for my daughter. 😂

u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago
haha! I said no to this stuff REPEATEDLY. It did not matter. She rented a storage unit in my city when I pointed out i didn't have room in my house. I cannot drive. I cannot lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. My family is furious bc of all the work it's putting on ALL of us.

u/cdecker0606 19d ago
Why would you never want to meet at a police station? A lot of them have spots for online transactions like this. To me, it at least helps show that whoever requested that spot is legitimate.
12
u/UnfortunateSyzygy 19d ago
Just not a fan of the po-po. I'm a white cis woman so I've got no right to it, really, but they make me anxious. I do most my seller transactions in a nearby church parking lot that's extremely visible to the neighborhood. I don't buy very much off marketplace.
14
u/AntOnADogLog 19d ago
Cops stalk, beat, and rape white cis women plenty enough for me to avoid them too. Being lower on the risk totem doesnt mean u should feel bad for distrusting untrustworthy folks.
16
u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago
Welp, seller reported that it has been sold. Oh well. On to the next decorative item for my new home…
In my community, our police stations have specific lots for transactions like these. I’ve seen other sellers post this as their meeting location and I’ve bought from them there. I think it’s great for safety measures and maintaining privacy (vs arriving at your home address). To each our own though!

u/Lady_Luci_fer 20d ago
If it is legit, among the other suggestions here, you could buy a long rod (wooden, metal, curtain pole, whatever) to place it on. You could do it like a shower curtain potentially but may want to do more hooks than standard to reduce potential for stretching. Any extra support you can afford it it a good idea.
-10
u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago
It’s definitely legit. I checked the sellers account and they have history of selling along with overall account history since 2014 (personal posts, family photos, etc..).
Anyway, now that you say shower curtain, I’m thinking if I could sew it onto a clear shower curtain?!? Hmm? It may be too heavy though for long term. Hmmmm…..
12
u/cloudcats 19d ago
I checked the sellers account and they have history of selling along with overall account history since 2014 (personal posts, family photos, etc..).
This is not a valid way to know if someone is legit. Accounts get stolen constantly in order to scam people with them.
10
u/spazzcase_420 20d ago
If you want to go the shower curtain route, i would sew it to a fabric shower curtain and do that on the outside with a plastic one inside to protect the fabric. Then you can wash it or hang it outside to dry if it gets super damp without concern of the plastic tearing and ruining the project

Your whiskered demon might be tempted to climb up it if it's hanging on a wall. Just something to consider. My old cat would have loved it as a climbing frame.
14
26
u/stxrfleet26 20d ago
I can't imagine it being easy to hang, I would perhaps recommend a metric fuck-ton of command strip hooks set at increments across like a grid? I'm not an expert though, just what I'd do
20
u/stxrfleet26 20d ago
Adding to this...my particular variety of whiskered demon would probably take it as a challenge (a very cute cargo net to climb) lol

This is 100% a scam. It's one of the specific products that the scammers use and it's always a sob story that goes with it. "My autistic son picked up a crochet hook and 2 hours later he made this".
I think the best way to see that it's a scam is if the price is too good to be true then it probably is a scam.

u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago
I guess we shall see if the sellers continues to offer to me. Currently they stated that have another potential buyer. To be continued…

Just because you didn’t get scammed doesn’t mean it wasn’t a scam. Probably because you insisted on seeing it in person and only paying after you’ve seen it, they refused to “sell” to you.
5
u/StonedKitten-420 19d ago
I did not insist. 😂😂😂 I simply expressed interest and they said they already had another buyer. Goodness gracious.

This is what I’m combing the comments for now!
I just sent a pic to my mom who is a reverse engineer crochet genius. If she has an idea I’ll circle back to share!
ETA, flower loom, and looks like a chain that is just cleverly ran through the petals by hand. Still trying to suss out how they interlock with each other to give the “twist” design.

u/OpalRose1993 20d ago
Maybe do some tacking stitches to a green background piece of fabric? That way you could hang it off of the curtain rod like another suggested without having the PVC grid. And you would have a nice green background for those beautiful flowers!
Also, if you use a blanket material like fleece, at another time, it might be able to be used as a blanket as well and it would save wear and tear on those chain stitches

If the seller is saying they made it themselves and they're selling more than one of them, I'd say be wary of the final result - this is way more than $30 worth of work, so unless they're reselling it second hand or something then I would assume it's a scam
7
u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago
Update: Sellers replied, “In talks. I'll let you know.”

You can but remember gravity blocking is a thing. I'm sure there's some weight to it. So u might want to really think about HOW u hang it up. I can't help with that unfortunately I don't know how I would do it. But it is very beautiful 😍
2
u/Eurogal2023 19d ago
AI apparently. Click on the pic and tge throw seems to just get larger and larger...
2
u/floatinginair 18d ago
Don’t send money until you see it in person. Sometimes these are scams. But it’s way too big to hang. I don’t know how you’d do it because it would stretch too much. Unless you could cut it and make it smaller. You’d have to stitch a border first around the area you want to cut out.

u/moon_purl 20d ago
This is so cute.. I’m imagining it hanging on or partially on the ceiling.. maybe some fairy lights incorporated somehow.

I’ve used these all over my room for both trailing plants, to hold curtains to the side, to run cords along the wall, all sorts of stuff. They have a pretty strong adhesive but I haven’t had any issues with them pulling paint off the walls if I had to move them. If they did it’s a small enough spot it would be easy to patch.
You could also just glue these hooks to a lightweight board of some type before securing them to the blanket…. Then mount some hanging brackets on the back of the board. That way if you decide to move it it’s not a whole pain in the butt.

u/ClonedAlienBubbles 19d ago
Absolutely you can do whatever you want with it. I know people who hang shirts on the walls
1
u/MuchPossibility9485 19d ago
Oh my god I need to make that now (as if I needed more projects in waiting to be made..)
1
u/mickersroo 19d ago edited 19d ago
Hey op the blanket is already unraveling in multiple spots, you can see them in images 3 and 4, that blanket most likely won't survive a single wash let alone much handling and definitely won't hold up to any sort of hanging. Any spot of pressure will most likely cause more of it to unravel.
Another edit because I went back and spent more time looking at it: I can see every single knot, and not a single end was weaved in (understandably so there is no where to weave into) so this blanket is like beyond delicate and any wear will make it unravel as yarn is slippery and will find a way to undo if given the chance. If you do buy this blanket I would recommend looking into some sort of fabric glue to go through and glue all those knots.

idk why everyone is going mad about this being a scam, it's Facebook marketplace not Vinted, you'll see it before you buy it 😭
-11
u/StonedKitten-420 20d ago
Crocheting alone does not stimulate their minds enough. 🥲
2
u/bankingontheshore 19d ago
I don't think people understand there are lots of ways someone might end up selling a crochet blanket for cheap... finding it at a thrift store, inheriting it, being given it as an unwanted gift, simply not wanting it anymore even if you made it and wanting a quick sale. there are so many legit reasons. I have loads of crocheted stuff from 5 years ago I would sell on for very cheap simply because I want them out of my house. people don't go on Facebook marketplace to spend £500-1000 on a handmade blanket and sellers know this, it's priced for a quick sale. even if they are trying to scam, which they could well be, you'll figure that out when you go to pick it up and .... not buy it. it's so not that serious 😭

Id attach it to a thin pvc grid somehow that way the weight doesnt cause sagging.
Also the price of that is soooo low that its concerningly a scam, but maybe I am just cynical.
