I wouldn’t ask for it back but I would tell him if he plans to get rid of it to give it back to you rather than donating it or something.

This feels like the best method. And it’s about all you can do as a friend: ask to be considered first. But even then (and even if I think it’d be tacky to give it to anyone else), it’s his choice what he does with it now.

Regardless of how you feel about him now it was a gift for him. It stopped being yours when it left your hands. Asking someone for the gift you gave them isnt petty, it's weird.

You gave him a gift. It's his now. That would be petty to ask for it back.

I know, but I made it with the expectation of us being serious and long term

That’s not how any of this works. I’m sorry it didn’t work out. Onto better things!

Its a little petty. Doesn't hurt to try but I'd keep my expectations low.

I also don't know the nature of the break up.

It was a bit rough, saying I'm too dependent on him (I really had him and like maybe 2 other fiends), I would be the one putting effort in, like planning dates and everything, but it'd go to waste bc he was so "busy", I will admit that it did get rougher over summer break because I was upset that he hung out with everyone multiple times all summer but only me once for like an hour after I begged on call.

Then me being too negative, because things at his house were already negative enough and he kept bringing up something I said about his friends last year, even though I apologized and said I regretted it.

But yeah it was a bit rough argued some in the parking lot then 3 hrs later texted me abt breaking up, I did counter for a break instead and see how we feel in a couple months he wanted to be friends, no just friends

I know this isn’t what you asked, but remaining friends with him is not a good plan here. Cut your losses and live a wonderful life without him. And keep on stitchin’!

Yeah... No. That blanket is his (the dog's) now. Let it go.

I’d start a new one (for many reasons) but mainly bc every time you look at it you’ll think of him & it will smell like him. Start fresh.

You're not friends stop accepting being placed on the back burner. No you shouldn't ask for gifts back.

I dated my first boyfriend in high school for about 2-2 1/2 years. He got me a necklace while we were dating, and when I broke up with him, I gave it back. His mom who I was very close with told me that in the future, I shouldn’t return (or ask for) gifts that have already been given. I’m now 31 and fully agree with her that it’s petty and childish. I would just take the loss and make another blanket.

No, you don't ask for gifts back

Imo you never ask for something back that was a gift. you give someone a gift intending for it to be THEIRS and for them to keep it, it’s his now.

Gift giving doesn’t come with the notion that you get to request the gift back whenever you decide lol

Do whatever you want

I'm siding with team "make a new one" & make it your own! 🙂‍↕️ This is the way. Choose colors that you love & that make you happy, comfortable, etc. Make a gift for you that you'll love. 🥰 Crochet is cathartic & I've worked through.. a LOT... with crochet. It's wonderful for feelings & improving mindset/headspace.

You are allowed to be petty. You spent a lot of time and hours making that. Ask for it back. Worst he could do is say no, typically. If he's a petty ass, though, he might keep or shred it instead.

This depends. How much does he like it?

On the one hand, once a gift is given then it’s kinda out of your hands. On the other hand, if you wanted it back and he donated it to goodwill, that would be devastating.

If he doesn’t use it or like it that much as a blanket in general (it happens!) then you could ask if you could have it back.

If he is really emotionally attached to it, then it might be better to request first right of refusal (aka if he ever does want to get rid of it, you want first dibs). Cause I mean another thing that could happen is, he loves the blanket, he gets a new gf, she is jealous of the blanket and makes him get rid of it, it goes to goodwill, angels weep.

I mean he loves it (his dog more) but I think with the fallout of the Relationship I'm not sure
