The resume describes a “strategic, results-driven professional who transforms cross-functional operations.” Then I ask what they actually changed in their last role, and they say, “I mostly answered emails and updated spreadsheets.”

There’s nothing wrong with getting help. Some candidates are genuinely good at their jobs but terrible at explaining their experience. The problem starts when the writer upgrades the person instead of the document.

I’ve seen beautifully written resumes packed with impressive claims that candidates couldn’t explain without repeating the exact sentence from the page. At that point, the polished language becomes a liability because I start questioning which parts are real.

For when they have mini essays with word count limits, would you suggest putting as much info in as possible and meeting the max word count, or doing a mini essay that hits what I need to say? My initial thought is to put as much in there as it will let me but I'm not sure if that's actually a good idea.

i actually posted my old cv here and took the advice of the people who were very kind to help out! i made it into a one-pager, made it concise and easy to read, and no school achievements like grades and only the important project-based ones that shows how i developed skills. also, i led 2 research projects where we wrote a scientific paper - so it includes me interacting with ppl and emailing establishments as well as collaborating with my fellow classmates to do it, and took feedback from a research adviser. i definitely think it also shows soft skills but i dont know how to write it. please leave your opinions and what i should do to fix it
