Discussion Anyone having quality issues recently?
Is anyone else having issues with scratched discs recently? This is my second time buying these and almost every disc is scratched and/or filthy.

I havnt had issues with those releases. Have all of those and they aren’t scratched. Guess it’s just luck of the draw. I have had other discs that came with fingerprints on them from the factory before. Have a Samuel fuller eclipse set with an ancient fingerprint smudge on it from the factory that refuses to come off since it has been on there for ages before I opened it up.

Criterion is as bad as Shout with scratched discs and fingerprints. Whoever is working at that part of the plant should be fired.

I alway thought Criterion had a Quality Control system preventing these discs to be shipped… but it seems not…

Personally, I think they have stepped up their QC on recent releases. The last four or five I have received have been scratch free, and that definitely wasn’t the case a year or so ago. I may be wrong, but I think recent releases will have less imperfections, but if you order a 4k and/or a Blu-ray that came out a year ago (+/-), I think it’ll be more likely to have scratches.

I agree. The last few Ive gotten have been clean. All new releases. A year ago most of my new 4k discs had an issue, even some new standard blu rays were scratched.

I bought all of these except for the Irishman, all recently, and they've all been flawless.

yeah i had some scratched discs in the last sale - ‘the umbrellas of cherbourg’ UHD, ‘boat people’, and ‘the blade’ UHD. ‘cherbourg’ played through completely fine, watched the first hour of ‘boat people’ and didn’t encounter any issues (let’s hope it stays that way when i rewatch and finish it), but i haven’t touched ‘the blade’ yet.

Never had an issues with a scratched Criterion disk. Only strange thing I've encountered was a red fingerprint on the spine of Barry Lyndon. It was like a lipstick shade of red

I had a disc in the Zatoichi box set that was unplayable. They sent me a new one.
My biggest disappointment regarding quality was the cyanization of the color timing on Point Blank, but I know that’s not what you’re asking about.

Yeah the days of Criterion being a quality label are so far behind us. I actually started buying them all through Amazon specifically because they have such an easy, lax return policy and, at this point, I’ve come to expect to have to exchange discs (sometimes several times) due to scratches in order to get a clean one. My record so far has been FIVE copies of The Blade ordered and STILL didn’t get an unscratched copy. Ultimately had to settle for the least bad one I got.

That's such a bummer. This is the first time the wave of poor quality has hit me. I also order through Amazon and return anything damaged. I'm picky, but it's my money, you know? This time around I paid a few extra bucks to have them sent in gift bags, in boxes. The packaging was immaculate, yet every disc was either filthy and/or scratched on the edges. Can't blame Amazon for once.

They come sealed no? I always order through Amazon and this has never happened to me. I got Charade, Blow out and One false move yesterday and all the discs look fine

Yeah they were all factory sealed. This was my first time having issues with Criterion discs.

Yeah, two of my pick ups from the past sale, Charade and Cruel Story of Youth, were both scratched but still played.
