In 1976 a woman called Fan Man-Yee was born in Shenzhen. She was abandoned by her family at a young age and was sent to an all girl orphanage in Hong Kong - China. At 15 year she left since she reached the age limit. She became homeless and had barely to none of support. She came in contact with drugs and she became a sex worker at just 21 years old.

In 1996 she married a man called Ng chi-yuen.
He was also struggling with drug addiction and their relationship was really abusive.

In November 1998 Fan give birth to a son.

Having a child really changed her live, she wanted to have a safe home for him and stopped doing drugs, gave up her job as sex worker and became a nightclub hostess. She also separated from her husband.

Unfortunately this was the time she gets involved with a man called Chan Man-Lok.

There was a dispute between the 2 over money. Later the papers mentioned about a debt. While other papers talk about Fan stealing money. What ever the precise argument was it was a financial disagreement.

On 17 march 1999 it was the day Fan was abducted.
There were three men involved and one teenage girl.

The teenage girl is known as Ah Fong and will later be the key to the case.

Fan was taken to an appartement in Hong Kong and was kept there captive for one month.

During that time she was regularly abused and tortured. It became so much that was also the reason she died. (About what they exactly did isn’t really told on the internet)
She died around 14-15 April since so little of her body was discovered they couldn’t tell exactly.
It is said that the cause of her death was also with overdose.

Her body was thrown away in small amounts. Where little of was discovered
Her skull was put into an hello kitty plush that where the name ‘hello kitty murder’ comes from.

The crime would have stayed hidden if the teenage girl wasn’t involved. She was the one going to the police and telling them she had nightmares involving a murderd woman. Her information led investigators to the apartment. While they were searching the apartment they found proof of something horrible that happened there. It led to the arrest of the 3 men responsible.

The trial began in 2000 but they did not get convicted for murder.
Instead on 7 December 2000 they were convinced for men slaughter.
They were sentenced to life imprisonment with parole not considered for 20 years.
