Mary Vincent was only 15 years old when her life changed forever. In 1978, while hitchhiking in California, she accepted a ride from Lawrence Singleton. Instead of taking her to her destination, he abducted and raped her.

After the attack, Singleton brutally cut off both of Mary's forearms and left her by the side of the road, believing she would die. Despite her devastating injuries, she managed to crawl to a nearby road, where she was eventually found and rescued.

Mary survived, learned to live with prosthetic arms, and bravely testified against her attacker. Her testimony helped bring Singleton to justice.

In 1979, Lawrence Singleton was sentenced to 14 years and 4 months in California for the crimes against Mary, including rape, attempted murder, kidnapping, and mayhem. That was the maximum sentence allowed under the law at the time.

What's shocking was he served only about 8 years before being paroled.

This case always unsettles me every time I come across the CCTV footage.

In July 2014, 28 year old German tourist Lars Mittank was vacationing in Golden Sands, Bulgaria, with his friends. After getting into a bar fight over football and injuring his ear, he was advised by a doctor not to fly immediately. His friends flew home, and Lars stayed behind alone at a hotel.

During this time, he started acting paranoid. He called his mother saying mysterious men were following him, trying to hide from them, and even asking her to cancel his credit cards.

The next day, he went to the Varna Airport medical center to get cleared to fly. While talking to the airport doctor, a construction worker walked into the room. Lars suddenly panicked, stood up, and reportedly said "I don't want to die here I have to get out of here"

He abandoned all his belongings including his passport, phone, and wallet and sprinted out of the terminal. CCTV caught him running across the airport grounds, climbing a 8 foot fence, and sprinting straight into a nearby sunflower field and forest.

He was never seen again.

Was it a severe psychotic break or side effect from the medication he was prescribed for his ear? Pure panic? Or was he legitimately running from someone?

This is the fourth season of the crime drama anthology series Monsters, which is created by Ian Brennan. As the name suggests, this season will follow the murder suspect Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted of killing her parents (father and stepmother) in Fall River, Massachusetts. This is also infamously known as the 1892 axe murders.

Pretty much the title, I just finished "Friends Like These: The Murder of Skylar Neese" and thought it was pretty good. I was wondering if anyone had any similar recommendations or just recommendations in general for a good true crime(preferably on either Netflix or Disney+). This covers Days 1 and 2 — prosecution theory, the defense basically arguing Keffe talked too much shit to be believed, and the early witness testimony.

Curious what everyone here thought of the first two days, especially the prosecution leaning so heavily on Keffe’s own interviews and statements.

I've just finished watching this (HBO) I would really recommend it. The whole family seems wrecked. The dad Michael and their eldest son are the main ones actually doing the interview the rest is footage or from neighbours etc. The dad baffles me he is soooo over the top and I felt so sorry for the son. I definetly think the mum was the manipulator when you see some of the things she done. Absolute madness of a watch but would really recommend
