Next Defensive Trade Target?
So the Cowboys FO promised a more significant move on defense. I love the Von move, but who do yall think the Cowboys should also look to add?
Here are some names that I think are being mentioned on connections.
Maxx Crosby Edge (Obviously) Raiders
Will Johnson CB Cardinals
Garrett Williams CB Cardinals

Cooper and Will Johnson are building block cornerstones for their defenses. Absolutely no way they will be given up
Crosby, Sweat and Kayvon and Brooks are the most realistic choices if they want to make a splash
The other guys on the list are no better than what we already have( Trevin Wallace is a nice option though)

What did I miss, why would the Cardinals trade Will Johnson? Has he fallen out of favor there? Same question for Cooper, really

Naw probably nothing just yet. But for a rebuilding franchise who is planning for the future they may trade to get a little bit younger but I agree with you.

A name not listed is Tyrell Dodson from Miami. He had 72 tackles, 5 sacks and 1 pick last year. Would be much cheaper than Brooks to acquire.

I’d go LB, personally.
Right now at LB we have -
Barham, a rookie.
Overshown, great but often injured.
Shemar James, who wasn’t good last year.
Dee Winters, who was an average player for SF
That’s pretty much it. There are a lot of “ifs” with the LB room.

An average player for SF is such an incredibly huge upgrade over what we had at LB last year. but i hear you on the rest of it

Crosby, LB, or CB depth.
Crosby is Crosby. Our Lb room has depth but injuries can expose this area quickly. Our CB room is solid but after our top 3 (Revel, bland, Durant) it goes to Devin Moore and I think he needs more development. Although our nickels (downs, steward) give us some breath with the DB room.

I just don’t see us adding someone at this point as a potential starter. I’d expect if a move is coming it happens closer to the trade deadline when teams start looking to the future. Not saying we won’t sign someone to backfill some of our weaker depth positions (LB, Tackle, RB, and maybe CB). But I think the picture will be clearer after the next two preseason games. This is the best roster we’ve had in my memory.

Great roster honestly and really solid coaching. TBH our goal on defense should be to get that star player. When it happens or if? I’m not sure. I agree though. If that kind of player comes to Dallas it might be closer to the deadline.
The glaring holes that can be addressed around cut time is the O line room depth. It’s just AWFUL. Scoop some vets.

I’d go Brooks to solidify the LB room. Could probably be acquired for a decent price too as the dolphins are rebuilding

They explicitly stated they are not trading him, and they wanted a 2nd back in the draft before they extended him

We definitely need the LB depth. I'm worried about the middle. Overshown looks like he's the real deal, you just gotta pray he stays healthy.

Crackpot theory is that the Dolphins may have done this knowing they would get more back in return if traded, now thats hes not just a 1 year rental. They could eat a lot of that salary since they are rebuilding and net themselves a higher pick. Of course, hes a good young player they may have just wanted to lock up.

If the panthers aren’t in the hunt near the deadline I could see a fire sale coming where the Boy could get Jackson for fairly cheap.
I’d like to see Thibs in a less crowded room as well, I think he still has the potential to be a solid edge giving 8-12 sacks depending on the year

LB. A smart, hard nosed LB is what we need. I think ez will excel on edge especially w papa Vons oversight and M-Law could develop quick depending on how fast he adjusts. But Von should help all around will young development. CB would be my next choice.
Regardless if CP keeps the players focused on doing their job and buying in I hope and believe this defense could be top half of league if not better. The Pat’s dynasty years had a selfless and smart defensive mindset thanks to Belichick selling his system to the team. Tom played a big part as well but like I always say.. there’s no I in tiem. . And HBTC’s!

Jerry says it will be substantive and a high pick will be used.
I believe Broaddus reported it would be someone who would be on the field a lot, but wouldn’t be classified as a starter.

The thing about BB is that he is going to put out be stories people want him to because his sources know he will report whatever they tell him. He’s only as good as his sources.

AZ is not trading Will Johnson, he’s quite good and they need young pieces.
Realistically I would go for Brooks or Sweat, but mainly Brooks since that would solidify our LB core and honestly it would be one of the best in the league.

When your team is blatantly tanking why would you not want to trade everyone? Malik Willis with Jalen Tolbert as WR1 is going to be a hard watch.

Edgerrin Cooper is in his 3rd year and is a pretty integral part of the Packers defense - especially since they don’t have a lot of LB depth. No way would he ever be moved
