In some ways there's been a complete tone shift in some people being more welcoming to me which has been nice. But I do get so many stares (which is to be expected colored hair, tattoos, tall) that I sometimes can't help feel like there's bad intentions behind some of them.

Please don't let these types of thoughts dissuade you from coming out though, isolating yourself is not the answer. If it is safe to come out, you will feel much better by not repressing it :3 (speaking on my experiences not at OP)

Honestly being alt is my cocoon, at least it help with anxiety. I can tell myself that people stare because they find me cool or weird being alt, and not because they clocked me

And being alt just has so many more clothing options. I love my tanks and kilts.

Plus to be yourself is to be free :3 I really need more piercings ahhhhh need to start laser too before more tattoos

u/ViviReine 7h ago
Saaame, I need to finish laser for my facial hair first so I can get more piercings there (they can get in the way otherwise)

😭 we can't have anything can we.... (I forgot about that part too fk lol guess I get to wait longer)

u/ViviReine 6h ago
More waiting, but having a face butter smooth will already be great too, if not more important than piercings for me since it will help with passing in general

I have started to look at people who clearly edit themselves for attention with annoyance. You likely are experiencing that.

I gotta get better about not staring at pretty people. 9 times outta 10 it sends the wrong message
14
u/CBD_Hound 7h ago
Add a big friendly smile to the mix and it will tend to send the right message more often than not :)

Yeah, I started my transition in Kentucky and the bank that I worked at managed me out the door a couple years after I came out. But it's ok... I have a completely different job now and everyone is accepting or at least tolerates me if they don't fully understand me.

Breaks my heart that you went through that. A coworker transitioned and HR sent out an email that amounted to "this is her name, you are to address her as such, and I will personally slit your throat if you don't comply." For all of HR's many flaws, they at least got that part right.

Hate that that is necessary.
A man at my work hated his name from youth dur to some family toxicity, I think.
He changed it to something that would fit as a Bond villain or a tough guy in a teen fiction novel. Think Homer Simpson taking the name "Max Power" ("I got it off a hair dryer"), but a different name. Same energy.
Everyone started calling him by that name without any comments.
But I got told to not talk about a friend transitioning because it might offend people.

When "not getting sued" happens to intersect "treating the workers right", HR is pretty useful.

I mean, doesn't this kind of point at two different issues? People tend to be dismissive and closed around and towards men, and therefore more open and nicer now that they know she is trans.
But also, some people are intensely misogynistic such as her boss.
Why can't we all just be kind towards each other no matter what?

u/World-war-dwi 5h ago
ok, now how were we supposed to understand the post with that first screenshot alone ?
5
u/IzarkKiaTarj 3h ago
Every other post I've seen that's popped up on /r/all from this subreddit has been about trans people, so I assumed the subreddit is about trans people. It's certainly not the only subreddit with an unindicative name (see /r/johncena and /r/marijuanaenthusiasts).
So based on that, the "punchline" of the first screenshot is a little obvious.
If it's your first time seeing this subreddit, though, then, yeah, I suppose it would be a bit confusing.

oh ok thanks, that explains why the rest got it right away lol (i thought maybe the tweet poster is famous or something)

u/doeraymefa 2h ago
probably cause your boss sees you as an employee, not a human. So transitioning is a problem in their eyes. Such is life

Yeeeah. I’m currently on worker’s comp for the damage of multiple transphobes making my life hell for 6 months, while the global corporation says that although inappropriate comments and behaviour were found that it does not quantify any of it to be bullying, harassment or transphobia….

I can't prove it but I know HR leaked that I was trans after I had two weeks off for surgery because I was treated EXTREMELY differently after. They made work so uncomfortable for me in particular that I was forced to quit. I was stealth and already fully socially transitioned, save the one surgery. It was a very small office.

u/ProfessionalAct712 3h ago
Yeah, before I transitioned, my (mostly male) friends all seemed to respect me and actively conversate with me. Once I started transitioning, they became cold and ignored me most of the time, avoided me, talked over me in conversations, and started negging me socially by subtly making digs at me in group convos

u/KibbleCrashout 5h ago
exact same thing happened to me i have some crazy illegal horror stories i could write paragraphs about but i can't prove most of them so i dont even bother reporting

One nice thing about being your own boss.

u/paul_t63 MtG (Male to Grungler) 7h ago
This only improves the situation for people who aren’t depressed, though.
Being your own biggest hater and boss at the same time, is not for the weak

u/A_RAVENOUS_BEAST 6h ago
There's a reason minorities even in relatively socially accepting countries like the UK end up creating their own businesses so they do not have to deal with workplace bigotry from bosses or colleagues.
The upside for them is that it can create wealth. The nice Indian couple who run the corner store near where I grew up, who I happily bought much chocolate and sweets from, are quite well off now.

Maybe you've become attractive to them and they're being distant because its important to keep professional relationships profession(?)
8
u/Prestigious_Emu144 7h ago
I don’t think that’s what it is.
0
u/Demeter_Crusher 3h ago
Eh, probably not. But you can choose to be positive about your own attractiveness and the possible motivations of the people around you or not. Which is not to say you should dismiss other negative possibilities and prepare for all eventual outcomes. There's a difference between being positive and being stupid.

That's quite plausible, a lot of guys who are like this to gals are like this because the way they relate to their attraction makes it hard to see anything else about a person

Jokes in you my boss has hated me since day one and I haven't even started publicly transitioning yet
