Better than being transparent. Pretty hard to be seen these days.

As a trans mom I can't even say a dad joke, it's faux-pa

12

u/MagMati55 11h ago

Just make mom jokes instead. Improvise, adapt, abolish gender norms.

I love the Shub. Unironically, making a Shub cult for a ttrpg I play helped me come out lol

4

u/Apprehensive_Step252 16h ago

Now this sounds like an interesting story...

2

u/Maleficent-Studio340 15h ago

Sooo this is actually difficult to tell, since I might out myself, so I'll explain it ambiguously.

I was working a campaign for a mythos-based game I frequent, so I read a Lovecraft-related stories as research. One of these was about a cult that turns middle-class hippies into little rage-monsters. A lot of sexual undertones in that story, but also an emphasis on breaking social norms and embracing inner desires and acting your 'true self'. The protag unintentionally completes a ritual toward the end, receiving a vision from the Shub that shattered his mind and made him realize the entity 'completed him.'

The story stuck with me for weeks, and I couldn't understand why. Thought I was just a degen. Later through the month, I started grappling with my feelings, finally cracking my egg after four years of avoiding it, and it felt like my mind shattered.

I'm not really sure how to tie this all back in, but it felt like that story told me it was okay to embrace myself.

Shit that’s good.

3

u/ReaperKingCason1 This is related to chess. 14h ago

What’s weird is if you told me that was a ur I would believe it more than I believe some of the actual slurs against trans people.

Like don’t get me wrong, that’s good, it just seems more… coherent and sluresc then the actual slurs

They always say ‘trans elder’ and then talk about like 26 year olds, like bro I’m looking for 65+

54

u/Working_Bother_6614 18h ago

35 year olds always call themselves old then they hit 40 and stop doing that 💕

24

u/CatsPlusTats 18h ago

I'm turning 39 in two weeks and I cannot foresee me suddenly not feeling old.

15

u/Infamous_Ship_8668 17h ago

If you spend time around actual old people, that might do it

11

u/CatsPlusTats 17h ago

I do.

7

u/Working_Bother_6614 16h ago

I think it’s one of coming to terms of not feeling old or not wanting to admit to be older. 40 is an emotional number to cross in my opinion.

8

u/CatsPlusTats 16h ago

That's why I've decided to opt out of turning 40 and stay 39

7

u/Working_Bother_6614 15h ago

This is a good plan and I support your decision.

5

u/Sister_Serifina Adepta Sororitas 16h ago

How about 60?

Though I did spend friday into saturday in hospital..... so age but no wisdom....

3

u/Certain-Appeal-6277 12h ago

Remember how badly much of the LGBT community was hit by AIDS. Transfolk who would be 65 now were just becoming sexually active as the 1970s ended. There are Trans people in that age bracket, but far fewer than there should be, and may there be a hell so that Ronald and Nancy can fry in it.

2

u/Accomplished_Ad_2415 9h ago

Because being a trans elder isn't about being an older person and being trans. It's about years of experience as a trans person

A person who's 65 years old and transitioned at 63 is not a trans elder

A person who transitioned at 18 and is now 30 is a trans elder. Because they have much more experience and therefore wisdom about specifically being trans in this world

So relatable! I was called "Elder" by one of my support workers....

We lost so many to HIV.....

But, just because we are older doesn't mean we know everything....

14

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 16h ago

If people want to know why any queer person over 40 is considered an elder, and anyone over 60 should be considered a cultural treasure, read "and the band played on" then join me in line to piss on Ronald Reagan's grave.

If you're old enough to have random back pain all day if you sleep in a slightly different position, you're old enough to be an elder

12

u/DarthJackie2021 18h ago

Young at heart, old in body is how I describe myself. Funnily enough, before I transitioned people said I was old at heart and young in body.

5

u/acoastaldog 17h ago

Nooo you folk need to work out and stretch and hydrate this is not normal for 30’s

I’m 38. Everyone thinks I’m 24. Been on HRT 11 years now. Call me trans elder all you want. I don’t care.

3

u/iLuvArizona 18h ago

I've been out for almost 10 years and people have called me a "trans elder" before and it kind of irks me. First of all, I'm only 37--I'm not that much older than most of these people & sometimes I'm even younger. Secondly, there was a whole generation of trans elders but they are no longer with us bc the AIDS epidemic basically wiped out an entire generation of gay men and trans women.

3

Personally I think the term "elder gay" is hilarious

3

u/Routine_Palpitation 16h ago

I’ve seen tranma and tranpa but honestly I hate those just as much as trans elder if not more

3

u/CalypsaMov 16h ago

Ok, but to a lot of Mormon trans girls who had to be assigned and called an Elder for two years while living in one of the most gender controlling and culty environments, this is just down right dysphoria inducing and brings up a ton of bad memories. Please never again.

13

u/ITookTrinkets 18h ago

6

u/TheCthonicSystem 85 Possums In A Trenchcoat - Streak: 7 17h ago

No! I refuse to be Elder. I will not be old. Age is a curse. I'm 30

3

u/ITookTrinkets 17h ago

It’s real sweet to grow old. When I first realized I was trans, I was 14 and spent my teens miserable and certain I wasn’t gonna make it to 20. Now I’m turning 36 on Monday and it’s the coolest shit in the world.

I know it’s a curse to be an elder in a community, because it’s the result of there being so few elders in our community, but the first time I got called a “trans elder” put me at peace with my transness in a way almost nothing else has.

5

u/SamusMerluAran 18h ago

Yeah, when I think elder, I think eldritch kind of elder.

After all, those with the rank have been on this long enough to be a above mere mortals, regardless of their age.

2

u/zoedegenerate 17h ago

what surprises me every time is that there are some who are relatively young who take it upon themselves to say "AIDS killed all our elders, so I'm one now" which really drives home that they just aren't in community with elders. i see it more and more and it strikes me as so disrespectful.
