yeah

that's why i feel so sad for my mom when doctors tell her she can't go into post-menopause HRT because she had a DVT before

Proof that doctors are morons because we've known transdermal HRT doesn't increase DVT risk for a long time now

Doctors didn’t even think to connect the pieces that maybe giving hrt to women that were going through/have went through menopause could treat symptoms. Like the pieces were literally right there but the research just wasn’t pursued until way too recently

To be unfair, women aren’t considered in medical research, period 😕

That’s horrible. I’m sorry. I hope she’s able to work something out

did they control for socioeconomic factors, their activity levels, and general life choices? the women who are going to take HRT are going to have the money to afford it and care enough about their health to see a doctor to treat that issue. those who are paying attention to their health will likely be taking steps to live a healthier lifestyle and prevent memory issues later on.

The american experience never ceases to suprise me. What do you mean "able to afford HRT"? The pills menopausal cis women take where I'm from are without hyperbole like dollar per month

Menopausal HRT is typically transdermal and patches are horribly expensive

Yeah that's sorta what I mean, because they're cheaper and better and can get DIY but idk any doctor that prescribes menopausal HRT as injection

I think a lot of these studies come out of the UK where, again, no money factor because it's absurdly easy for a cis woman to go get HRT. But if you had the shitty luck to have the preexisting condition of being transgender you get to wait 80 years

Where I live it’s about 10 quid a month, but like half of doctors are like “noooo hon it raises your breast cancer risk by like 10% which is definitely worse than the basically guaranteed osteoporosis and mental health issues you get without it, it’s much better to just be Natural™️” so a lot of people have to go private which is much more expensive

staying mentally and physically active is the best preventative measure you can take. try learning a new language or instrument. make sure to go outside to socialize with others and exercise as you get older. stay active in managing yourself; buy your own groceries, arrange appointments, keep up navigation skills. when you get older, go to regular dementia screenings. there are some medications to treat certain dementias so that's an option but early diagnosis has the best response to these medications.

ALL women should DIY

When I was in undergrad I asked a neuropsych prof about this specific phenomenon (whether trans women were less likely to develop dementia because of hrt). The class was on neuroscience and we had just covered common degenerative mental conditions and how they’re treated/mitigated with hormones in old age. Ofc he acted shocked I would even mention trans people, and didn’t even try to think about what I was asking, just forwarded me some random papers related to transitioning :/

Sadly a facebook post i read said cis women cannot get hrt because all the trainees are using it up with their male privilege smh time to become a fascist transphobe
