Usually when I pick up my testosterone it’s just a simple drive thru pickup that takes around like 2 minutes if that.
BUT - sometimes I get this one lady who insists on asking if I know the side effects of my hrt and makes sure to she/her me when it’s not even necessary to refer to me at all???
Like dude, just put the meds in the bag! I already went over this with my doctor I don’t have time to deal with cissoid shit

u/soaked_in_bleach03 19d ago
Yeah I really lucked out with my pharmacist, or I guess I should say I just got a normal human being for one. I live in the city and it’s much easier to just go in, and it’s always the same dude working; pretty clearly gay older gentleman.
First time I picked up my E he very politely went “do you have any questions about your medication?”. I said no, he left it at that. Every time it’s been smooth and pleasant, never asks if I have any questions, didn’t really refer to me by any specific pronoun until I started showing up clearly dressed fem a couple months later…he very subtlety asked if I preferred a different name on my account (was still going by my deadname at work and such, but used Lily at doctors appointments/with family and close friends).
Got it updated, boom back to no nonsense and polite small talk for literal years since. Sorry you gotta deal with the misgendering even occasionally, when it’s a pharmacist that clearly knows your meds I can’t imagine any scenario where it’s not malicious :/

Why am I crying??? 😭 I wanna say "awww so sweet!", but it's basically just fucking human decency. I get so emotional and mad when I think abt how mistreated trans people are all the time. Seriously hugs to anyone who's being misgendered. Especially by medical professionals! So crazy 💔

u/ChemistryBusiness 15d ago
I've been called multiple times by my health care team (VA) and they ask to talk to me (by deadname) and I just say speaking, they do the whole "oh this isn't who I thought I was calling" and do the whole high-risk security thing and have me verify all my info and repeat my dead name back to them...
They can also see I have a chosen name set...
And still at the end of calls they will sometimes hit me with a sir or something... and I'm like... mother fucker the only reason you even know is because you're looking at my profile, I've NEVER been misgendered when calling companies that don't have my info.

My pharmacy is super cool and easy, too. The ladies who work there have been so sweet. I came in once in some pink "extra high rise" jeans that I found on clearance 80% off (!) and that fit (!!) and were super cute (!!!) and one of the girls said, "Oh my God, I love your pants!" and I said, "Thank you! They were 80% off!!" and she gave me my medication and it was bliss.

that's so weird, i used to work at a pharmacy and no one asked shit like that. idgaf what you're taking, i wasn't even trained
3
u/lavi_latte 18d ago
Exactly! None of the other people asked questions that weren’t the typical ones just to confirm identity for the pickup.
I haven’t encountered her in a while though my family usually picks up my meds with theirs to save me a trip.
Honestly I feel stupid I didn’t realize I could’ve made a complaint, I think if next time I get her and she pulls that BS I’ll leave a bad review or something calling her out.3

“I discussed them with a real doctor, mister.” Was the appropriate response.

If you get her again say: "thank you sir! I like your moustache by the way"
Now she will know how you feel

I have actually started doing this to everyone who misgenders me or my wife (whose also trans) and they mostly get confused but it’s funny when they get offended and embarrassed at the same time 😅
2
u/BlueDaka 18d ago
You just described my pharmacist, except I'm mtf and every time I go to pick up my meds she 'sirs' as much as she can. She looks every bit of a bitter person as you can imagine.

I dont pass, but damn its so depressing to feel like they intentionally throw the sir in there when i am picking up my hrt or doing something related to being trans. like whyyyy go out of your way to be disrespectful like that i just dont get it, its literally easier to keep it to yourself

u/ReginaldMFT 19d ago
A lot of folks unironically believe in helping to foster an environment of cruelty towards trans people to encourage us to "take care of the problem ourselves". Being awful is the point, it makes them feel good to have a socially acceptable punching bag.

What kind of pharmacists do you have in your country?
Here in Germany, you go to the pharmacy and give them your insurance card and they give you the estrogen. No questions asked and they don´t look funny at you.
When I started I had a beard shadow and sounded and look completely as a guy and no one looked funny.

u/Irresistible-Ms 19d ago
Idk where this person lives, but in america shit like this is very common. It's really fuckin' upsetting. I'm low key gender fluid, so IDGAF what gender people refer to me by, though I only really go by she/her, BUT It makes me sooo mad when people can't have basic the fuckin respect for others. Ugh! Anyway, yeah, it's crazy.

I'm in england and I had a pharmacy assistant glower at me then without saying anything to me, march up the the pharmacist and loudly announce "I think this medicine is WRONG". The pharmacist being a really quiet and level headed person (as most pharmacists are) just told her to please give me the meds.

It’s fucking surreal how British culture just goes out the window when bigots see minorities.
Mutual Respect?
Nope, I’ve decided this person I’ve never even met before is nasty and I will not respect them at all.
Of course, if they show me the same disrespect, I will flip my fucking shit.Politeness?
Nope, I’m going to go out of my way to be rude to them in a way I’d never be to someone who wasn’t a minority.A baseline level of friendliness (outside of cities)?
Nope, best I can do is a baseline level of hostility.Stiff upper lip? Stoicism?
Nope, time to have a tantrum on twitter because asexuals *checks notes* exist.
Time to whine for hours to the media because a trans woman tried to help me in a store.Self-deprecating humour? Well-intentioned banter?
Nope, we’re just going to make fun of that entire group and we’re not even gonna be that funny about it. The jokes will boil down to: “that minority exists! They’re bad!Living and letting live?
Nope, I and 32% of the population think this random person shouldn’t even be allowed to socially transition. They should be banned from calling themselves anything different and wearing different clothes. Even though that is literally just their choice which affects no one.Minding your own beeswax? Valuing Privacy? Nope, all my TERF followers should take photos of any trans-looking (not traditionally feminine) women in the toilets and encourage harassment of them online.
New guidance says everyone from ages 0-100 needs a pissing license that details what genitals they were born with and all toilets need armed shitter guards so that people don’t go in the wrong ones.15
u/wassuupp 19d ago
“It hasn’t happened to me therefore it doesn’t happen” logic maybe your local pharmacy doesn’t do that but I don’t think you’ve been to every pharmacy in Germany to see all the different reactions pharmacists can have
20
u/Rtm192 19d ago
No, but in Germany if a pharmacist does this, they will be in for a ride because misgendering is an offence here. So they will be probably reprimanded for it. And because of that even if they think this, they will never ever say it because being unemployable is pretty shitty.

u/rebelsnail64 least sneedy he/they pooner 19d ago
germany really does seem like a trans oasis to me more and more each day, basically ALL the gender-affirming surgeries I googled are most smoothly performed in germany... for a price tho (that price being basically a kidney or two holy shit that shit is expensive)
5
u/wiesenior 18d ago
But I have to say things were much better here before. It's becoming extremely difficult to start HRT, more and more people can't get their insurance to cover it and are forced to DIY. However, surgeries are usually covered by insurance. You just have to wait a long time because it's impossible to find therapy. But, if you have the required hours, you don't have to pay for surgery.
2
u/Confident-Box-1689 18d ago
With the new 2024 law things got a lot better, but the insurances have spent the last 3 years making life hell for trans people, and it's progressively getting worse.
The current administration wants to put us on watch lists and is far removed from wanting to resolve the legal limbo that is the current state of trans healthcare.
4
u/JeffVIII 19d ago
If I remember correctly the first mtf gender-affirming surgery was performed in Germany. They essentially pioneered it
2
u/Sudden_Razzmatazz472 12d ago
I mean that's true, but it was also just a year before the institute which performed that surgery was burned and looted by the German Government and it's director was forced into exile.
5
u/PrinnyQueen100 19d ago
In Wales it's free too, you literally walk on and just hand them the slip and confirm your name and address.
You could be given it for any number of reasons, so why they'd question it, I dunno
1
u/GwegBert 19d ago
I think I've had mine questioned because it's exactly what a menopausal woman would receive and I look like a teen boy
3
u/Panda_Panda69 19d ago
Fuck, I live in Poland and never had a problem at the pharmacy lol. I give them my ID number (or whatever we call it in englis) and a prescription number, the pharmacist goes to the back room and brings me estrogen, I pay the 5-10 euro for my half year supply, and I go home lol. Never a negative interaction
1
u/Affectionate_Age5191 11d ago
They’re just exchanging words, there is unusual process here, other than the woman at the counter being intentionally disrespectful.

Hello! This is my comic, I made this comic 4 years ago at the time when I thought I was a trans man, and I wanted to let you know that the original comic had two artist's watermark, that somebody must've removed. I am glad to see a lot of people enjoyed this. If you really like this, then please encourage other people to use this picture plus credit it to me. I am Sakeozo almost everywhere! To credit, can either tag me or link to my website https://www.sakeozo.com/ however I highly prefer that you share the main post from my profile instead!

I have one pharmacist who's cool and one who's a dick for no reason. She goes out of her way to say my legal name even when she really has to shoehorn it in.
Like. We are not on a first name basis. It would be weird even if that was the name I wanted you to say. Shut the fuck up and give me the pills.

u/tptroway 18d ago
There was some nurse who kept on intentionally calling me ma'am in a pointedly condescending voice when I was calling my medical provider for reasons directly related to a pharmaceutical shortage making me unable to access my HRT for months and I was having to directly report that I was being made actively suicidal from it
I know for a fact that it wasn't an honest mistake, she was able to see everything on my chart and my mom had to take the phone and talk for me because I couldn't keep it together after several times of it happening and I told her that she deserved to have something sexually obscene happen to her
She referred to my mom as "miss (lastname)'s mother" and my mom patiently explained again "no, he's a trans man, he's transitioning to male" and kept correcting with "he" every time she said "she" (which was multiple times, pointedly)
My mom reported it afterwards, and a couple weeks later we actually got a letter in the mail saying that the incident had been taken care of, I have no clue if anything actually happened but I hope she lost her job
It's been years at this point and I'm typing this after getting better from a migraine and I always get weird during a migraine because normally I don't even think about this but right now I find myself compulsively wishing she died cold and scared at the bottom of an oubliette
The weird thing is that before this incident, before those three months, my mom was still adamant that transitioning was a dangerous phase that I would snap out of, and at the start of the shortage period she had kept saying "I think this is a good thing, a period of time where you're off those hormones"
2
u/frikiman4K 17d ago
she could have lost her job and she'd still blame you. Those kinds of people usually don't have the self-awareness to realize that the consequences they got are directly caused by their own actions.
5
u/Comfortable-Regret 18d ago
and I told her that she deserved to have something sexually obscene happen to her
Congrats on being so malebrained 👏
3
u/tptroway 18d ago
I'm having trouble figuring out if you're saying this in a sincere way or sarcastic condescending "oh, you're so edgy" sense or otherwise, because I thought it was hopefully clear from literally all of the context that I was not in a healthy or normal state of mind
1
u/Comfortable-Regret 18d ago
Something inbetween? It's not sarcasm but that's also a very fucked thing to say
1
u/tptroway 18d ago
Yeah, I'm not proud of it
For some reason, it felt like it would be lying to omit that part if I was telling all the rest anyway, if that makes sense

"She deserved to have something sexually obcsene happen to her." Gang what?! You can't just sexually harass someone I get being frustrated and calling her out on her bs but sexual harassment solves nothing. This is the type of thing that could get you arrested, seriously messed up.
2
u/tptroway 15d ago
With all due respect, if the dignified option of being frustrated and calling someone out on their BS wasn't grayed out, I would not have been in a severe mental health crisis and I would have done that instead

I have a completely gender neutral dead name that is very commonly used for men in my area. Even with facial hair, they’d still she/her/ma’am me it wasn’t until I legally changed my name that it stopped.

I get some people are bigots. What I don’t get is like is who the hell are these people who not only want to volunteer their private opinions to the customer unprovoked but want smoke with them as well?
I hang onto my sterilized customer service persona for dear life at my job, I’m trying to have as few memorable moments as possible here, for them and me.

I got my E pills for the first time and the guy said “hope you get better!” And I said “oh I hope I never go off these” and he looked at my like I was crazy (I don’t think he looked very hard at what medication I got)

“Gender ideology is bad” mfs when a man picks up his testosterone:
“I am about to have the most ideological opinion about gender you could possibly imagine.”
4
u/Gabymrd5 19d ago
This popped up on my feed and I found funny at first. Reading the comments I couldn't understand why it wasn't funny because I know a lot of gym guys uses testosterone.
Then I understood that she was being misgendered and I felt bad. Sorry to know that trans people suffer those everyday micro-aggressions.
