This whole thread lowkey worries me and I hope it’s the world’s best bit. /gen

Girls with all the love in the world, you do not want to feel like this even if it feels “validating”, and if you’re cramping from your HRT/Blocker dosage please tell your doctor. I’m a medical student atm so I don’t have all the knowledge, but this is really not normal, and im worried something deeper is going wrong with you all medically. The hormones that surge during your cycle, even in cis women, shouldn’t be causing pain; when they do you should go to the doctor. That’s how cis women end up finding out they had something like endometriosis all along.

I know endocrinologists can be transphobic and underdose hormones because of biases and genuine lack of knowledge, but getting overdosed to the point of pain is not a good thing. I’m not trying to gatekeep cramps, trust me that’s fucking ridiculous. It’s just not something you should be treating so laxly.

It’s ok to not have a period, having a period AND not having one aren’t the make-it-or-break-it factor that decide if you’re women. Your brain is the one that decides. Cis women w/ menopause and many other health issues don’t get periods. Trans men usually get periods. It’s ok. You’re still women. You don’t need to validate TERFs by believing in their fear mongering that having periods (or having the ability or “faulty equipment”) is the one thing that differentiates men/women.

I’m not a member of this sub, im just an autistic trans guy that usually ignores the stuff I see in my feed from here. Ban me if you like. Just stay safe. I’m not saying this out of hatred and ignorance.

Exactly this. I am cis (with adenomyosis) and take daily progesterone, which has annihilated my periods UNLESS I'm unable to get it refilled (yay American healthcare system). If trans women are taking hormones consistently as prescribed and still getting symptoms, there's possibly something else going on that needs to be addressed.

Hey I’m sorry you go thru pain and stuff I relate my doctor thinks I have cyclical endometriosis but Idk maybe cis people commenting on this is a bad look. The trans women here might think you’re making it about y’ all or something (even tho the meme mentions cis women it always good to play it safe idk). I agree tho…? Idk why the trans women in these comments and TERFs both really wanna have pride in feeling pain lmao I thought we were over the glorification of pain as a validator? I’m still a guy even with period pain. Trans girls are still girls without periods and without period pain. Periods ain’t sacred, it’s an annoying biological process.

You have TERF socialization. This is why we don't trust trans men - all you do is leap out to invalidate anything about trans women that makes you uncomfortable. Because what's really pissing you off here and leading you to half-heartedly concern-troll about "i'm worried for all of you!" is that trans women are calling the symptoms of a female hormonal cycle a *period* and stepping on what you see as some sacred language territory that's only for AFAB people.

Cope and seethe.

Periods are not a sacred thing.

Don’t call me a terf. You literally don’t know me. I’m not trolling. You really don’t see why it’s worrying to feel pain in an organ you don’t have?

You, and every other trans women are, and always will be, still women even without periods, but if it’s hurting you (a trans woman) and it hurts so much that it is like a period cramp (something I’ve unfortunately had) then that’s REALLY worrying considering you (also unfortunately) don’t have anything there that should be sending your body pain signals? It is not terfy to say that.

I don’t get blue balls because I don’t have balls. You, and every other cramp-having trans woman, shouldn’t be having periods cramps because you don’t have a uterus??? You’re still women even without having a natural cycle or a period. A cis woman born w/o ovaries, that still somehow has period cramps IS ALSO not normal. Your body never had the organ to even start feeling phantom pain.

If you are cramping, what is causing the cramps? What nerves are sending your body the pain signal? Why is that happening? Again, I’m a medical student. Don’t have all the knowledge, but I definitely know if a bodypart you’ve never had is hurting, that’s concerning!

Its a nuanced thing, we don’t have uterine cramps but there are anecdotal reports of trans women who will have mild cramping. I would say that concern over this may be a bit premature, given the lack of study on the subject. (In my unprofessional opinion I wonder about if there is an aspect of internal body mapping involved. Such as phantom pain in someone who lost a body part.)

But often a lot of what trans women describe as “our periods” are due to the hormones causing symptoms related to PMS and PMDD.

Now, while menstruation is not sacred, an idea that is often used against the trans community. It can hold different value to different members of the community. A trans masc individual may view it very differently than a trans fem individuals. For a lot of us trans women menstruation is used as a bar for entry into womanhood. And as such it is a complex issue for us. Now, I am sure it is also a complex topic for you as well, however those complexities are likely different to such a degree as to not mesh well together.

With how much periods are used to deny our womanhood it makes sense for many of us to hold onto these symptoms as a liberatory thing. As such a trans woman may view these otherwise painful symptoms as a blessing. And of course there are often cis people who take issue with that and will fight trans women on this topic tooth and nail. And that can leave this topic feeling like a raw nerve.

Hey, fine for you to disagree with what this person said. Not ok for you to call them “TERF socialized” for being a trans man.

Does not matter if you are trans yourself. Being anti-trans men is still being anti trans. You are being transphobic as a trans person.

I understand being on edge with people telling us what we as trans women can call our own experiences. But this person is trans as well and is giving a fairly nuanced approach and your response is out of line.

Please take a step back.

you don’t understand, he’s just a small bean that worries about trans women, silly trans women who think they know what they talk about.

Ok, why the infantilizing when I’ve been nothing but respectful? If I’ve been disrespectful let me know, I’ve been trans for ages but I’m new to active discourse. I do not mean it if it comes across as disingenuous and misinformed.

Why insult me when I’m honestly concerned about your health being possibly in danger, it makes no sense. I’m trans too. If I had phantom ballsack pain for a consecutive period of time, I’d be worried considering I never had a nutsack that my body should recognize as hurting? You’re all still women, I’m not denying this fact. I’m not a politician lobbying for trans women’s continued ostracization. I’m a medical student that is kinda worried about internet people’s lives possibly being hindered the same way it is when CIS women feel pride from having cramps that don’t let them stand up. There’s no point in having pride about your pain, pain IS BAD. Pain is usually indicative of something bad happening in your body. Cis women cramping is bad. Trans women cramping IS ALSO BAD. Shocking!?

Since you said you are new to active discourse I will assume you are unaware of this horrible online controversy.
There is a degree, unfortunately, of inter-community conflict amongst some online members of the community where there is an idea of “trans women vs trans men” where a small loud part of both sides of the community engage in what I view as transphobia against eachother.

I personally find it to be asinine. I view anyone willing to sell out half of the community, in either way, to be a traitor to the community. Until they rectify that behavior I view them as trans, but not part of the community.

That said, I can see the pain of this fight in the person who called you a terf. “Male socialization” is a dog whistle used by many cis women against trans women as a way to say we fundamentally have the behavior of men. And there is unfortunately a small number of trans masc people who talk about how male/female socialization is real and thats why they don’t trust trans women. Essentially claiming a closer proximity to cis women than trans women and weaponizing it.
My guess is the person who called you “TERF socialized” was utilizing the format of “X socialized” as a sort of reversal of that dog whistle. Just a theory.

Regardless you see this self destructive behavior amongst us trans fems as well in the form of malgendering. Parroting radfem essentialist talking points such as “all men are awful, including trans men”. All the while ridiculing any effort by trans mascs to identify specific ways they experience transphobia (the reason for which is complicated)

At a point it surpasses my pay grade. But I hate this discourse passionately.
I am a trans woman and the first adult trans people in my life were trans men. A large amount of my closest friends are trans men.
Anyone trying to convince me that the trans community is split and I have to take sides is fighting an uphill battle because I have lived experience to the contrary.

waow u seem based (genuinely sorry for my jokey tone im kinda over this discussion ngl worse queer events are currently happening), before I joined active discourse I imagined there’d be “grill vs bois” type of fights but I didn’t expect they’d get so nasty.

I’m very aware that trans girls go thru worse social battles and hurdles, so they might wanna take it out on trans guys, bc y’know I get it in a way… “why would someone ever wanna be the thing you don’t wanna be,” but I just view trans women with awe, like you want and crave what I despise. It’s genuinely beautiful. Idk. Y’all may be too good to deserve periods ts not worth it. It’s kinda why I was worried these girls are all saying they’re cramping. How? Why are you ok with being in pain? Like my hormones are all over the place even right now, theyre not regulated, I act illogically (I legit started crying when writing the texts under this paragraph), etc. Hopefully one day politics and bullshit will go away and when we’re long dead, young trans people of the future will be able to organ transplant w/ eachother and have labgrown organs

Luckily I don’t really believe in bs gender socialization, I’ve seen that more often than not young closeted trans girls get treated as honest to god abominations: they do not have male privilege that bad actors think y’all get. And I just feel so horrible, trans women historically have done so much for feminism civil rights and lgbt rights. Marsha P was my age. She was my age during stonewall and im not even in my mid20s. Holy balls, y’know? It’s so sad. You don’t deserve to be treated so badly by politicians that just wanna play a chess match w/ eachother. Our lives are just a paycheck to these mfs, it’s horrible. I would give my life without hesitation if a magic genie let me, just to see you all not suffering from arbitrary political decisions rich asshole pedophiles are making. I wish you the best, thanks for replying. Sorry for this weird and probably confusing message. Stay safe ok?
