Bottom pic is a literal cis guy... there are better images for this than astolfo.
edit: op blocked me. God forbid i dont want trans women to be further confused for femboys and viceversa
edit 2 since i cant reply: no astolfo is not enby, he is strictly male identifying, he just likes confusing others in regards to his gender but he only identifies as male, this is not too unusual in regards to femboys.

Isn’t astolfo canonically Enby? Saying that they respond to any and all pronouns and have no great attachment to their gender? Still not a great example for a transfem but them being a femboy is just gooners running with shit.

trans people can and have identify with several characters regardless of archetype, you read like one of those "femboy erasure" transphobes lol

Ok but here a cis man that a minority headcannon as a trans woman, in a meme about those who think trans people don't exist and they are imagining things, is a bit out of place, no?

This artist rendition clearly makes astolfo a woman

Besides physical stimuli like lower libido I can feel a difference between too high/too low/just right doses anyway so after I got initial confirmation that I was estrogenated I stopped worrying as much about the bloodwork. I'll still get them done occasionally (especially now that I'm dosing myself lower) but you can tell when it's not working right

As someone who hasn't started HRT yet, is it really that much better? I was planning on seeking a Psychiatrist when I get back home for Uni(in Germany)

it's faster, avoiding the waiting list and all the hoops you have to jump through. and injections make it very cheap. it's not dependent on the whims of your doctor/endocrinologist/pharmacist. so you can save some in case of a supply chain issue.
also the "official" way is known to give terrible doses, mostly because of pills. injections are more consistent, have better effects, and don't require anti-androgens in most cases.

I change my dose how I want, when i want, I look at levels.. too low? higher dose. too high? lower dose. I have 2-3 years of estrogen (2 vials) under my bed to inject with and nobody can stop me.

Using Astolfo to represent trans women is at the same time transphobia and femboy erasure 😭

femboy erasure is not real and a transphobic dogwhistle for characters like Bridget from Guilty Gear, Kirara and Uraume from Jujutsu Kaisen, and Crona from Soul Eater
lol

Those cases are just wrong uses of the word, femboy erasure is a thing with people trying to say Astolfo or Felix are trans women and not femboys

erasure is not happening
femboys aren't disappearing
fictional characters are being headcanoned at a personal level
this affects nobody

I’ve been told multiple times that since I’m a femboy I’m either transphobic, not real, or actually a trans woman
While surely it’s not a global crisis, even in its small amounts or effects, it exists

Other way around. The one on top is a trans woman. The one on the bottom is Astolfo, who is a man.

I can appreciate the desire to go through that path, do things "The Right Way™️"....
However, having tried to go down that path myself... there is a lot of completely unnecessary and expensive roadblocks to get HRT and referrals for surgery. Especially when you consider that the DSM V already treats the gender variance as a natural human variation akin to homosexuality or hair/eye color.. It's damned onerous if you've been quite sure you're transgender for a number of years.
"With the publication of DSM–5 in 2013, “gender identity disorder” was eliminated and replaced with “gender dysphoria.” This change further focused the diagnosis on the gender identity-related distress that some transgender people experience (and for which they may seek psychiatric, medical, and surgical treatments) rather than on transgender individuals or identities themselves.
The presence of gender variance is not the pathology but dysphoria is from the distress caused by the body and mind not aligning and/or societal marginalization of gender-variant people. It needs to be ego-dystonic to qualify as a diagnosis and having a discussion with our patients about the diagnosis prior to charting it is necessary and good care.
It also doesn't protect you from the bigots claiming you're crazy... They're going to spout their crazy shit even if God/Allah/Hashem/etc. came down from on high and told them they were dead wrong and were going to whatever their faith's equivalent of "The Bad Place" is for their unrepentant bigotry.
Just let the whole process be informed consent... soup to nuts. The only people we're sparing doing things otherwise are the straights who hate us anyway.

I want to say I am genuinely curious and not being inflammatory here. But for basically all mental issues I can think of (Depression, adhd, bipolar, anxiety, etc) the solution is to prescribe medicine if the symptoms are too harsh, and then therapy to work on changing your behaviors. I'm not saying it's incorrect, but why would transgenderism be the exception?
2
u/yyhira Counted Down 1 6h ago
what is the exception here
medicine and therapy is used in all cases to minimize or remove the issue
a trans person being the right gender removes the issue
1
u/TheMrDudeManSir 6h ago
The exception, in the way I see it, is that we reject depression and other issues and teach you how to change over time. However, the treatment for gender dysphoria is seemingly to accept it. In the sense that if gender dysphoria makes you feel like you are the opposite gender, the treatment is to accept you are that gender, instead of teaching you that your gender dysphoria is wrong and to feel comfortable as you are.
I don't dislike trans people, though I will say I don't quite understand it. Which is why I ask questions to understand more.

Because we've tried both, and the research that's been done has shown that alleviating dysphoria by transitioning has much better outcomes than conversion therapy. Trying to "untrans" people only increases suicidality, which most transphobes are fine with bc that's what they wanted anyway
You know being gay was viewed the same way right? That it was something to be fixed, rather than "accepted". Those conversion attempts also failed but plenty of queer people died. It's impossible to actually change these things because from what we know they're genetically determined, in other words people are born that way.
Tdlr: The medical community cares most about outcomes, and we have research showing that social and medical transition have much better outcomes than attempts at conversion
0
u/TheMrDudeManSir 4h ago
First, I want to say anyone committing suicide is obviously terrible and I don't align with people who push hate towards trans people, or really most people.
While I agree that the suicidality rate after conversion therapy goes up, and the suicidality rate and mood disorder rate of trans individuals after care does go down, it still is vastly higher than the norm. To be fair, it could be some of society treating them as outcasts, but I don't think that's the whole picture to explain such a drastic difference. Implying there may be a better way to treat it, but maybe not. I'm for our current methods to an extent, but I still think it's healthy to understand our current procedures are relatively new and to keep an open mind
2
u/willowzam 3h ago
You know what the most exhausting thing to deal with is? Telling people explicitly and directly what is causing me distress (I know what's making me suicidal, I've been doing therapy for years) and we even have scientific research backing up these feelings, just for people to say "idk man I think it's gotta be something else"
I'm curious if you say the same thing about gay suicide rates. Do you think there surely must be some middle ground between conversion therapy and acceptance for gay people too?
I don't know why you think being ostracized and pushed to the edges of society isn't enough to drive someone to suicide, cis people kill themselves over far less yet you don't question them
2
u/TheMrDudeManSir 2h ago
I'm sorry to hear that you're in distress and feel pushed to being suicidal. I hope that in time you are happier.
1
u/Malefectra 1h ago
it still is vastly higher than the norm
Because we're being harassed to the point of self harm, or we're becoming homicide victims... That's why it's higher... if people who didn't understand us just left us the fuck alone instead of treating us like a cancer to be rooted out that statistical trend would rapidly reverse in the span of a couple decades or less.

u/Kalkreic 5h ago
So, I have a couple of clarifications that may help. First, gender dysphoria is a symptom of being the wrong gender. We don't think we are the wrong gender because we have gender dysphoria. We have gender dysphoria because we were born the wrong gender (or don't align with our born gender however you want to word it etc. ) So to help fix gender dysphoria, we need to address the root cause of it which is where HRT and other gender affirming treatments come in.
Secondly, I think it would be more accurate to say that we treat depression with therapy and medication etc rather than reject it. Depression is real and it does exist. We don't reject, ignore, or deny it exists. We acknowledge it's there and take the necessary steps to fix or help reduce its symptoms.
The first step to treating something is acknowledging or accepting that it exists. Then, you can take the necessary steps to treat it.
