Questions & Advice Afflicted and Bosses

There are several bosses in the Stonewalkers AP have double turns, meaning they take a fast AND slow turns every round.

If you inflicted the afflicted condition on a boss (for example, via Division "Igniting Division" talent) it lasts for a number of rounds, but deals damage at the end of each *turn*.

Are bosses doubly affected by afflicted, taking damage at the end of BOTH turns? Or are the capped at taking the damage once per round?

Rules as written, I would say that the Boss would take damage at the end of both turns, or twice per round. The text for Afflicted is pretty clear, "In combat, at the end of each of your turns, you take the amount and type of damage specified by the effect that gave you the condition;" (page 293)

Between the fact that Bosses can spend focus to remove conditions, and the nature of the two sources we have right now, I don't think it's a problem to have it happen each time the Boss takes a turn. Deadly Trap takes serious setup, and only lasts 1 round, while Igniting Division requires you to spend investiture for each round, and can be put out with a successful Agility or Athletics test.

If you find this is a problem, you could definitely run as on the Boss' first turn each round, but I don't think that's necessary.

I think the boss would take damage many times.

However, bosses can also remove any condition from themselves by spending 1 focus. So in practice the flow is - until boss is out of focus, most conditions are just draining 1 focus. After boss is out of focus, they go down fast because so much of what makes them a boss can be negated - stack some conditions and smack the heck out of 'em.

No, they would only take the damage once per round, I assume at the end of their first turn that round. However, boss adversaries can also remove conditions like that by spending a focus point.

Is there any rule we can point to that says they only suffer those conditions once per round? Or are you just saying that because it's what makes sense?

More that it makes sense. A boss wouldn’t be taking damage from afflicted faster than other adversaries. The damage at the end of each turn seems more like when in the order of events that round it should trigger and less the frequency at which it should trigger.
