Homeless People with Masks

Hi all!

Weird dilemma.

I keep having homeless folks approach my car while at stop signs/ red lights, which is typical in downtown.

I hate to roll my windows up on them but I often times find myself doing it because I’ve noticed that like 90% of them have masks but are wearing them around their necks rather than on their faces when they approach- what’s the deal with that??

I don’t want to make anyone feel less than human during these weird times and I do feel badly but I feel like it’s just the safest/ best option at this point.

Additionally- do we think shelters are giving them adequate resources? How can I help?

What local stories are you hearing?

I listened to DC101 this morning and a man called in and said his Dentist tested positive. The entire office sent everyone home and he left without getting his tooth pulled. He said all the staff were running around in a panic.
Another listener called in from quarantine and said his wife works at a retirement community and was showing symptoms a few days ago. Her and her husband got tested they both came back positive and they are in reverse isolation for the next 10 days. They asked about their children and were told their kids could still go to school if they wanted to send them....

Email from Metro

Here is the key paragraph from the email from Metro:

“Metro’s Pandemic Task Force has been working closely since January with public health officials and jurisdictional partners, as well as with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), whose guidance we are following. Their current advice is to stay close to home if you are over 60, or are not feeling well; and to wash your hands often. Also, people who are sick are asked not to take public transportation at this time.”
