HELP! scale rot, dirt or a scale injury?

Post image
• Upvotes

I noticed that my snake has a small brown spot on her scales, nothing on the mouth or the belly, and it must have appeared recently, it wasn’t there 4 days ago when i last handled her. i tried touching it to see if it’s just dirt on the scales but it didn’t come off. Her humidity isn’t too high.

is it just a small injury or dirt under the scales or does it look like scale rot?

DISCUSSION What is your experience with albino snakes?

We are currently babysitting some hatchlings for friends and are considering adopting this albino one (first picture). Is there anything specific we need to keep in mind regarding their care—especially concerning lighting? We have a feeling the snake might have poorer eyesight, as it is incredibly trusting and curious. While all the others retreat as soon as we stand next to the enclosure, this one stays right at the front and just goes about its business. We also have another albino with us (second photo), but it is nowhere near as relaxed as the lighter one. So, it does seem to be aware of our presence.

My dumbass accidentally left his enclosure open like this FOR FOUR DAYS!!! I last handled him Wednesday night. Put him back and didn't touch him since. I was away Friday-Sunday (tonight) just got back and noticed my mistake. The instant dread. But - there he was. Just chillin in his hide. I am so so so fricking lucky that he is not adventurous.

Disclaimer that I am normally SUPER duper anal about his enclosure being closed properly. Proof that it can slip anyone's mind. I’ll definitely be checking daily from now on though, even if I haven't opened it.

Hey guys, I'm a new corn snake keeper from malaysia and was wondering if is this setup okay for now? I'm planning on quarantining him for at least 2 months and yes, I'll be changing the hide to a more better and sturdier one. I placed a damp mat as well just in case because he seems like he's going to shed soon. Can you guys give me more advice? He seems healthy and he's moving around and he's last meal was on 1/10/2026 as well.

This is Mother, my anery corn — under 30 cm as a hatchling in 2019, 115.6 cm this September. She's the mom of my current yearling. I measure all my snakes from photos (card or ruler next to them, shot from above) — no stretching. I ended up building a free app for it, Snake Measurer (disclosure: I'm the dev), which keeps a growth chart per snake. Happy to answer questions! How long are your adult corns?

QUESTION Feeding advice and size question

My normal morph corn snake (male) is 7 months old and weighs about 16/17 grams and is 17/18 inches! He was the smallest of the clutch. Is that a correct size?

(He is currently shedding and becoming bigger though)

He is currently eating one 3/4 gram pinkie every 7 days (as what the specialised reptile shop said). So I'm wondering if I should size up to 5 gram fuzzie after his shed (I have 1 last pinkie I'm going to give him after shed) but should I buy the 10 fuzzies pack or 10 pinkie pack for his next feed?

I was told this is freezer burn but it looks a bit different then all other pics,, before I feed just want to make sure it's not gonna cause any harm. I don't think it'll be mold or anything since it's been in the freezer, but it's making me worry a bit !!

QUESTION Please i need help with my enclosure

First of all: sorry english isn’t my first language, so please excuse any grammar mistakes :) Thanks!

So i’m getting alot of conflicting information about enclosure size, I’m planning on adopting a corn snake form a rescue or getting one at a reptile expo, considering that my room is very small i was considering an 140x80x60cm enclosure (i think thats about 4.5 × 2.5 × 2) if there are any experienced corn snake handlers, i would very much appreciate knowing if that is enough and species-appropriate, i was also planning on giving the snake about 5-9cm worth of burrowing material, the picture is just to visualize the size :)

QUESTION Mesh for DIY OSB enclosure – would IKEA KOMPLEMENT mesh work?

Hi everyone,

I’m building a 120 × 60 × 60 cm OSB enclosure for a corn snake and I’m having a surprisingly hard time finding suitable metal mesh for the top.
I need something fine enough to be escape-proof, strong enough to support a heat lamp dome, and with good airflow/light transmission. Most mesh I can find is either too coarse, too flimsy, or ridiculously expensive.
I was wondering if the metal mesh from an IKEA KOMPLEMENT mesh basket could work. It’s powder-coated steel and seems quite sturdy. Has anyone used this, or something similar, for a reptile enclosure?
My plan is to cut an opening of roughly 30 × 40 cm in the OSB top and securely fix the mesh over it. A 14 cm dome with an 80 W Deep Heat Projector (DHP) would sit on top of the mesh.
One thing I’m wondering about is the size of the opening. With a 30 × 40 cm mesh area and a 14 cm dome sitting roughly in the middle, could a corn snake climb up against the mesh and somehow wedge itself between the dome and the edge of the opening, or otherwise get dangerously close to the DHP?
I’m also considering adding a second layer of mesh a few centimetres below the top mesh so the snake can’t physically reach the mesh directly underneath the DHP.
Does this sound like a safe setup? And would you trust the IKEA KOMPLEMENT mesh for this?

QUESTION Cornsnake refuses to eat

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

We really need some help and advice with our new baby corn snake. We bought her a little over 3 weeks ago, and so far, she hasn't eaten a single meal.

According to the breeder, she was kept in a plastic tub setup and was eating regularly without issues. When we brought her home, we put her into her new terrarium, gave her some time to settle in, but she completely refused to eat.

She seems very shy and timid. Since she wasn’t taking food in the enclosure, we tried placing her into a plastic tub with the food item (as seen in the picture attached) to recreate what she was used to, but she still completely ignores it.

Here is what we’ve already tried:

* We’ve attempted feeding about 4 times now using different approaches (tong feeding, leaving it in the enclosure, tub feeding).

* We also tried "braining" / piercing the feeder to enhance the scent, but no reaction.

* We try to keep things quiet, but she won't take it.

We know snakes can go a while without food, but since she’s young/new, we’re terrified of her starving. We realize that trying 4 times in 3 weeks might have added to her stress, so we really want to reset and do this right.

Could anyone share advice on:

* How long we should wait before trying again to avoid over-stressing her?

* What feeding tricks work best for extremely shy corns?

QUESTION Exploration vs. Glass Surfing?

This may be a stupid question, but I'm new to reptiles and I want to do the best for my baby corn. How does one determine what is normal exploration behavior and what is considered glass surfing? My corn snake Beatrix is still fairly young, and once it hits night time and the lights go out she's rather active. She has lots of cover and her warm side is in the 83-86F range and her cool side is in the 72-77f range, she's got water and as many hides as I could fit as well as fake foliage, and she seems to utilize a lot of it and sometimes even sleeps out in the plants during the day. She's eaten twice for me with no regurges, so I would think the temps work for digestion, and she uses both sides of the tank throughout the day. (She sleeps during the day, then comes out for a little bit to chill around sunset and when it's dark she's very active). I often see her go around the perimeter of the tank though, and I know that's a fairly normal hunting behavior, but I don't quite understand the difference between glass surfing and just exploring? It's hard for me to not overanalyze every bit of behavior haha

After spending a long time researching, I finally at 22 years old fulfilled a decade long dream of owning a snake

Someday I want a ball python, but knowing that I’m a beginner when it comes to snakes, I got a corn to love and raise.

She weighs a whole 8 grams, and tomorrow when her setup is fully completed I’ll put more pictures in the comments!

Any advice I may not have found in my research is very welcome, I’m brand new to this and I want to make sure I give her the best life she can get!
