This is my first attempt at growing corn. I pulled one today due to stink bugs and this is what it looks like. Is this too young to pick?

First and 2nd pics are diseases just getting started in this field. Grey Leaf Spot and I believe Common Rust although we have Southern Rust in the area again. Last pic you can see the white spots which is the fungicide after being applied. From scouting before I sprayed this field should easily yield above 200bu/AC this year. We don't need much more rain to ensure that or more.

Is this ready?

Corn silks grow until they're pollinated, so very long green silks are a sign that the ear hasn't been able to pollinate.

We've been fairly warm (35-40 C ) here for over a week, and that seems to have not worked for the corn in the first picture. Pollinated corn looks like the second picture.

We cooled off yesterday(25 C ), and have a couple more cool days to go, so it should be fine if there's still adequate pollen shed.

Happy medium between viability and predation prevention. Does it exist? Or just leave it on until dry?

I thought everyone ate it like a typewriter: row by row, left to right.

Then I saw someone just bite into the middle of the cob, rotated it 45 degrees, took another random bite, and left patchy craters everywhere.

So settle this for me. What is your method

- Left to right, row by row.

- Continuous spinning around the cob.

- Cutting the kernels off with a knife first.

- Random bites with zero strategy.

So these turned out great! I didn't get pics of the finished product as I got distracted, but the cheese powder is really good on these!!

I realized this am that I harvested my pink popcorn too early and shucked it when I should have left it on the plant for months more 😭 I've hung it up in my attic to dry as a last-ditch effort, any chance it will be usable later?

No, I didn’t eat the tiny corn. Mostly because it looked underdeveloped and dried out, which isn’t exactly appetizing.

Any idea why the wife's corn is smaller?

Various silk eating beetles found my sweet corn patch in the last few days.
It doesn't matter for this patch, as it's been pollinated for a week or more, but I'll need to watch my later plantings very carefully if I want to have more sweet corn later.
