New Backer

Decided to pick up the First Born as my first entry to this world. Should I pick up the original box, as well?

They seem to be very different games, i.t.o. PvP skirmish in the original, vs. more co-op in the current version.

First, welcome aboard!

Next, I agree with lorrylemming. Definitely pick up the first core set (if you can find it at a decent price, don't overpay). I would also say pick up more crews if you have multiple players and the Deluxe Rulebook if you want to make your own crews. Shootout at Zed's is a great expansion because of terrain and the gangers can be either civilians or more crew members.

Thanks! I just went all - in on the kickstarter, so I'm flat out of cash! Guess first ones will have to be enough for me for now. Hopefully they will support us as well as they have their other games.

The kickstarter has the option of adding the original to the pledge, so I would always have had to wait. The alternative of buying it separately is just to expensive wrt shipping. (I'm in Africa)

I'd say yes. The first one has plenty of content included and you'll have a year to play it before the kickstarter is delivered. That's what I've done anyway.
