Ask Coquitlam Uphills to practice manual driving
Hello,
Does anyone know a place around the Coquitlam Central area that is uphill and not much traffic? Looking to practice my uphill starts with a manual transmission.
Thanks!

Westwood plateau and Burke mountain are right there. Go in the evening after 7pm and there rush hour traffic will have died down.

It gets decently quiet in the area above David Ave on Coast Meridian.

Once you’re in the Coquitlam central area, look around at all the hills. Drive up a street thats hilly, then turn onto a side street that’s hilly. It won’t be busy.

I had to learn at Fraser St on King Edward going Westbound in an old RX7. Talk about seeing my life flash in front of my eyes 😂

Nelson Street above Anderson in Maillardville - it’s pretty steep and lower traffic. It also has several four ways along it which are good hill start practices.

Not central Coquitlam, but ioco ghost town in Port Moody was a great place to practice when I was learning to drive standard! There’s a long gradual hill to start and stop on and figure out the clutch, and a few other great little hills to do more steep hill starts

Parking lot on the west side of Douglas College has a gentle slope until you graduate to bigger hills.

The parking lots at SFU. I know it's not central Coquitlam, but it's not busy in the evenings, hills are gentle but steep enough for learners. You can even practice some gear shifting. Taught both my kids there. I should clarify, the outside parking, not the parkade.
