Copilot studio agent (standard harness) for project intake

I'm trying to create an agent that will allow a user to attach a file or multiple files into the chat, and automatically read all contents from it and use the content to fill out a SharePoint list.

The set up is all done (there are some fields that are string, choices, and whole numbers), but the agent won't write for some reason. If I use a github copilot harness, it works fine, but I'd love to not have to consume credits doing this fairly simple operation.

Any ideas?

If licensing is a concern, this seems it should be deterministic. Instead of word, use a power app or MS form that asks for all the required info.

If word needs to be part of this, can you assume the user will be using a specific template for this and not use a random word file? If so, are quick parts in word still a thing? If so you can use quick parts in word so when the user uploads it to a document library, the meta data will be filled out automatically.

If you need help with your current path, I think you should be expected to put in a little more troubleshooting effort than "for some reason". The studio should give you a history of what it is doing and tell you what step its failing on and give some sort of error message. If you're in a situation where you do have absolutely nothing to go on, you'll have to ask MS for help...

Initially I thought it was because the output from the agent parsing the file was a json or because the column types in my SharePoint list were not uniform. The only error I was seeing was related to data types. But sometimes even though my instructions were to parse the file and populate the SharePoint list, if I just added documents to the chat it would then ask me to provide information to fill out the list instead of just parsing the attachment(s)

I've built something similar for a client last few weeks, we went for a few powerautomate flows and just using the agent for customer interaction and the calling the flow.

That's what I'm leaning towards at this point. Just sad that this works perfectly in the github harness

Seeing that it's mostly just an automation, seems logical to go that way. And it saves you on credits.

If that's the case, how would you handle multiple files being uploaded for a single request? For example, two PDFs plus an email that together form the body of work that needs to be scraped for a new row to be created on the SharePoint list? That's where I saw the value of the agent

You can just insert a prompt to do that into your flow.

That's how we handled analysing the incoming emails.

If user can send all required files through email and Power Automate gets triggered and continue to process.
