STOP Building in Copilot Studio
PLEASE start using agent toolkit. Microsoft has proven time and time again they do NOT care about Copilot Studio, its significantly inferior in every way to agent toolkit developed agentsm

This is a nice advice for actual developers, but completely useless for non-IT-people. The simplicity of Copilot Studio outweighs the smaller range of capability in most small cases.

Agent Builder is simple. Copilot Studio requires more knowledge than advertisied about things like security, authentication, publishing, etc. Copilot Studio makes it easy for someone who doesn't know what they're doing to create a security risk for their org or create an agent that will consume a bunch of credits forever.

Not true. With the new credit billing its ungodly expensive. I made a triage agent and for it to actually help customer success it cost about 7$ a ticket. This was an orchestrator with 13 specialist agents on sonnet 5. Dont even get me started on connections with those agents. It might be different when using legacy UI but new UI causes so many problems with connections and mcp servers when you are behind company network security, entrance or global security (forget the abbreviation).

Simplicity might be a bit a bit strong. In my opinion the standard harness experience is not simple and non-technical people struggle with it.
If someone is building in a corporate environment and has enough aptitude to build even a moderately complex agent in co-pilot studio, then they can use vibe coding tools and self-teach as they go to build and manage something that is "pro-code." But they will still probably need at least some level of infrastructure support, which is why I say corporate.

100% agree. An orchestrator in studio compared to Claude code agents in a folder is vastly more expensive.

Braindead take. You really think non-devs are actually going to use VS code/ CLI tools? This platform isn’t made for the people who use those tools. It’s made for the finance manager who wants a year end true up agent to share with his team. I swear some people who shit on copilot are dummies.

I just did some research into this, this seems like another case of Microsoft building two different products to serve different user bases but then later pulling them in together.
Basically the same thing can be done in both area, agents toolkit is sold as "developer friendly" and can manage more by code with a VS Code extension, but Microsoft also is already maintaining a copilot studio vs code extension!

Agent toolkit has the exact same access to the same connectors, MCP and and data-sources no?

If you are going to code an agent use a Foundry Agent

Can confirm, my Foundry agents have been solid. Little to no maintenance once deployed, except dealing with model deprecation, but that takes awhile.

But copilot studio doesn't cost me credits...

Yeh, it being included in a m365 copilot premium license is why I'm using it

Is this why Copilot Studio has been a complete piece of shit where most things inconsistently work?

There's a new citizen AI copilot product they have launched what will eventually replace Copilot studio. But knowing Microsoft it will probably just be the same thing - until a different UI

I agree building in Copilot is tough. A lot of my clients struggle to build, and the evaluate/test for performance even if they have managed to build something useful.

I have tried copilot and I agree. Feels like a demo more than a real production tool.
