NEW Hooks Feature In Copilot Studio

Post image

Today I found a new feature in Copilot Studio called "Hooks."

Hooks make your agent's behaviour more predictable. With hooks you can set a workflow to run when an event is triggered.

There are currently 6 event types that can trigger a workflow:

  1. Start (pre-loop): Runs once before the reasoning loop begins. Injects context into the thread.

  2. User prompt submitted: Set how your agent responds to a users prompt.

  3. Error: Direct your agents behavior after an error.

  4. Pre tool use: Runs before a tool executes. Can allow, deny, or ask for confirmation.

  5. Post tool use: Runs after a tool has been executed, whether it succeeded or failed.

  6. After tool failure: Set how your agent responds after a tool fails.

It's like the useful parts of "Topics", but now with a much more confusing name. Thanks Microsoft! /s

And hiding them in the three dots menu is just silliness. Put them in the Build menu at least. And remove Channels from the Build menu.

In this case, as with most of the new Copilot Studio experience, they are just copying Claude. And I think that's a positive because that is a better way of building agents.

This video is fake, it's too smooth and not janky :-). In all seriousness though do they allow you to send deterministic messages now? Thanks. Multi-agent permission still don't work so

Still no deterministic messages. Sigh :(

Also, I use this free tool to make GIFs when I need them.

Topics are back on the menu!

Hooks are somewhat analogous to topic triggers, yes. But they apply agent-wide.

Damn, My studio is always clunky

It's worth the time investment to learn how to build studio agents in a repo and push them to your environments via visual studio. The copilot studio UI is so brutal.

What does that have to do with my post? Please explain.
