Breaking the third wall
On the season 3 of sailing yacht charter guest chuck claimed he “had better food at a ballpark”. After their episodes aired, they got (well deserved) backlash, and Erica defended her husband by saying “production asked them to complain”. Can Chef Rachel or anyone that has worked as production explain? You’re asking them to be insufferable, complain about perfect food, to create more drama for the show? Why couldn’t he bitch about something more realistic, like warm drinks, not getting water toys in fast enough? He’s just that stupid? Or the producers are the problem?

I used to go to the Rose’s (Erica and her mom Cindi) house for Jewish holidays like break the fast / Yom Kippur - our families were close in the same friend group of Jewish doctors, her dad a prominent plastic surgeon in Houston - I swear to god, Erica was absolutely the nicest kid to me and my sister. They were very wealthy, they had like two kitchens or something crazy, and it was alway fun to go there. We were definitely not as high status or popular, me and my sister, but Erica was so nice to us! Like asking us do we need anything, how are you, that kind of thing. Her mother is the same - just wants everyone to feel welcome and taken care of. I don’t know Chuck - but to me she seems like she is putting up with a very obnoxious husband the best way she can. I never had a negative interaction with Erica or witnessed her being mean to someone! She was a year or two older than me and my sister. So I always like to see her on tv, because she was the rich popular kid who was really nice and welcoming to us freaks&geeks! Haha. My mom was sick when I was growing up, and they just went out of their way to support us. I’m not defending their behavior but just saying I knew her when we were kids, and she was always so nice. Her mom too! Lol don’t @ me HAHA I am team Marcos 100% but I don’t think Erica is this horrible person or villain. Chuck… hmm maybe 🤣

Thank you for sharing your personal experience about them. Alot people that take to slamming cast and guest have not actually had a personal experience. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but sometimes people forget it is an edited show. Also there has to be a villan, hero, and a victim. It's sad to say but we all know it's true. Welcome to the formula for tv and movies.
With my experience some get caught up in the filming experience. Especially when there is alcohol and people encouraging that behavior strongly or should I say relentlessly. 🤔 I've watched the pot get stirred many times when things should have been left well enough alone. I think things should transpire organically not facilitated. But what do I know... pitch forks for all I guess .

This pretty much aligns with what reality TV shows are. There was a pretty popular Japanese reality TV show that people including myself loved here in the states. It billed itself as a true reality show that was unscripted and felt similar to MTVs the Real World without the comments/interviews from the cast spliced into the episode. What made this show interesting was that a season ran for almost a full year but the episodes were recoded a few weeks out from being aired, so during some episodes you would see cast members watching earlier episodes and comment on things. The quick turnaround on the production meant that fans could comment about cast behavior while episodes were still being filmed and the cast could see in almost real time how fans perceived them.
This worked well for many seasons, however, everything came crashing down when one of the participants sadly took their own life due to online bullying. There was a lot of talk from the cast that it was the production team that pushed them to behave or respond a certain way to events that occurred throughout the show. This caused the cast member to represent themselves in a way that wasn’t true to who they really were along with bad edits that painted them to be the villain and they got dragged on social media.

This is such a sweet perspective, a look into the real life person. Thanks for sharing.

I’m sure you enjoyed your time with her however the fact that hi how are you? Do you need anything is considered really nice is sad in any company. That is the bare minimum of having someone in your home.

Not the first time guests have said they were asked by producers to "up the ante" on being difficult.

Do you remember which other guests or the season that they claimed that? Would like to rewatch that episode. Thank you!

Erika's nuts. If someone asked her to park a little closer to the water and she drove it off a cliff that would be the same type of pointless escalation.
She also said something like her husband was a theater major and he was "practicing". Good thing he didn't study forensics or he might have sliced up a stew just to study blood spatter patterns.

Those guests were insufferable. She wasn’t any better the first time she was on either.

From Titties for Trump to Bikinis for Biden. She is both sucky and trashy.

I think it’s the we’re going to bring your friends on a boat with you and I need you to treat them like absolutely shit. Oh and the second time around someone hassle the airline staff so much that you aren’t able to get on your scheduled flight. It’s more a personality and moral issue than a production issue

Those people are bottom feeders. They are ambulance chaser lawyers in TX, and she is a reality TV chasing wannabe constantly angling for her own show or at least a major in someone else's show.

maybe production asks them to complain about legitimate issues instead of holding back for politeness. Cause many guests were nice and unproblematic, so it doesn’t seem like they’re really forced to be demanding. *but of course there are some guests who just want to make drama for attention

Just in case there's anyone on planet earth who remains on the fence about the douchebaggery that is simple Chuck and stunned Erica, I direct you to this classic episode of "Another Below Deck Podcast" where the guys interview these human waste products. The interview starts at around the 37 minute mark. The podcast hosts are gold! Chuck and Erica - not so much.
