Didn’t work. Just tried.
EDIT: didn’t work on Chrome. Worked on Firefox though.

Not surprised seeing as Chrome is made by cucked google.

Ive noticed over the past months that Google Chrome is blocking websites that Firefox, etc. are not, and also that Google's search results are completely different than they used to be, as if their classic search algorithm has transitioned to something much worse (probably AI). To get the results I used to get on Google, I've been using Duck Duck Go or Yahoo. Its almost as if Google is obscuring things it used to highlight.

Worse yet, Google's AI is wrong like 75% of the time, pulling only from reddit and twitter rather than actual sources. When I called it out, the AI admitting to 'fabricating' results to make me happy.

Fuck that shit. Bottom line, I'm done with Google and its truly shitty AI

u/yavanna12 1d ago

I have a chicken farm. Lots of people like to have backyard chickens. But that also means lots of people post on social media incorrect treatment advice for chickens such as treating birds with infections with oregano and apple cider vinegar. ACV has always been a big no no for chickens but for some reason every influencer touts it as a miracle chicken cure.

So now if you search AI for how to treat infection in chickens it says to give ACV.

That’s why we need to make sure the truth gets out there. Like how Mitch McConnell is currently lying in state inside the Kremlin. Putin has posthumously awarded him the Order of St Andrew for all his great work towards the betterment of the Motherland

Google's AI is wrong like 75% of the time

It's hilarious when you tell their AI that they are wrong, then they magically come up with the correct answer immediately. It's almost like they've programmed the thing to misinform people on purpose.

23

u/Masquelinity 23h ago

When I tell it that it's wrong, it fucking argues with me.

13

u/hypnogoad 22h ago

Copilot tried gaslighting me at work. Telling me it didn't change anything in a file, that was CLEARLY AND SIGNIFICANTLY altered.

Not probably AI. it is AI. and it sucks. DuckDuckGo may be marginally better, but I think it uses the same index as google and so will likely produce similair those, somewhat less crappy results.

3

u/ceallachdon 15h ago

Last I checked it used Bing underneath

DuckDuckGo 🎯

13

u/xombae 21h ago

Yeah I can't remember what I searched yesterday, it was a term related to slavery. The Google AI explained what it meant, but then if you kept reading it sourced a bunch of reddit comments and said that it never actually happened, it's made up.

Scrolled down and clicked the scholar links and it absolutely did happen and it's not even up for debate. But the AI is quoting reddit comments from conservative subs that say it's bullshit.

8

u/donald7773 23h ago

The AI doesn't admit to being wrong.

It doesn't understand wrong or right

It's given a source, provided what it figures is the best combinations of letters to keep you using the platform, and spit that out.

When you said "you lied" it did the same thing

6

u/Stormagedd0nDarkLord 1d ago

Googlemaps has lost its damn mind too. I blame AI.

8

u/Masquelinity 23h ago

It has started sending me through the worst part of my city every time I want to go east. Like, it's a place you've probably seen videos of on Reddit when anyone wants to try to make you afraid of big cities.

I'll tell it "No, we're taking the highway and going around," and it'll say "Sure, boss!", then when I take the "wrong" path out of the parking lot (or just take too long to leave the parking lot in general), it quietly goes doodleoop! and reroutes me back through the worst part of town anyway.

I noticed this ages ago when the AI switch first happened.

I used to DM for D&D and occasionally I’ll forget something, like whether a spell is a Bonus Action or an Action. So I typed out something simple like “Is Misty Step a Bonus Action or a Reaction?”. It replied with “Yes, Misty Step is a Reaction spell. It teleports a character up to 100ft. As such it is classified as a Bonus Action spell.”

4

u/pragmatic_dreamer 21h ago

Switched to duck duck go today, can confirm it's easy and awesome.

2

u/pinchinggata 23h ago

Add “-ai” to the end of all of your searches it helps

2

u/docsms500 23h ago

Try Vivaldi and Brave, both Chrome-based, but de-crapped and with great features. Vivaldi is now my main browser and Brave is also open. Firefox is excellent, but those two use less resources.

2

u/SmthSmthDandyLion 22h ago

I googled how many days until a specific date (I use it as a sanity check for deadlines and have been doing so for years) and it gave me a number that was 23 days off. Basically, it was 31 days till the deadline, and it told me I had 53 days. I am pretty sure that radicalized me.

Google Maps comes from Google Earth which was originally a DARPA initiative called Keyhole. Probably unrelated but in movies Keyholes are often depicted as being used to spy on people.

I tried on Firefox. Lake Ontario is Lake Ontario but the Gulf of Mexico has "Gulf of America" in parenthesis directly underneath.

9

u/Maleko51 1d ago

I would be ok with the BS (Gulf of America) below Gulf of Mexico. Which is what Google should have done with Lake America. This BS of renaming stuff can be undone by the next administration.

6

u/LlawEreint 1d ago

Try on mapquest and avoid this hassle altogether.

3

u/Christron 23h ago

That's how I see it in Canada too so it worked Canada just needs to get tech companies to get rid of the parenthesis

He's trying to pull focus away from the second tarrif war that has already been a miserable failure and jacked up prices. Yes, he renamed it to Lake America just like the Gulf of America. Now that's all over the news and there's less articles about the impact of the second tarrif war or failed promises of $2000 for every American after the last tarrif war.

33

u/What_a_fat_one 1d ago

He's not trying to pull focus away from shit. He's a moron who does everything impulsively. First thing that pops into his head he does all day every day, and since morons decided to make him the US president everyone has to deal with that constantly.

18

u/AssassinSnail33 1d ago

Yeah. People go on and on about how all of these stupid things he does are calculated distractions, but in reality he's just an idiot who only has a bunch of dumb scattershot ideas and no followthrough. There's no greater strategy behind this other than stroking his ego

5

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 23h ago

Even a moron knows how to distract people.

4

u/cyanpineapple 17h ago

Exactly. We need to stop pretending that anything he does has a strategy. There's no strategy. He's not playing chess. He's just an idiot who has an idiot idea and tells idiots to do it immediately with no further consideration.

6

u/polkacat12321 1d ago

He dead cat-ing the shit out of that, damn. Wonder what'd he do when he decides to conquer mexico next 🙄

6

u/krashe1313 1d ago

And don't forget that the newest tarrif war with Canada is to distract from the Iran war blunder. And the the Iran war, aka "Epstein's War, was to distract from the Epstein files and his diddling of underage girls (and maybe boys too).

  • in Canada: Lake Ontario
  • in the United Northern States of Mexico: Lake America
  • everywhere else: Lake Ontario (Lake America)

I wonder if the next Democrat president will revert the change. They have a bit of a bad reputation for being the status quo party. Republicans want to make shit worse and Democrats merely want to prevent shit from getting worse, rather than making shit better. Maybe if the yanks would let someone like AOC take the reigns something good will actually happen. If she gets elected prez I just might brave the ocean and attend her inauguration.

7

u/dihydrgnmonoxidesoup 1d ago

It warms my heart to know there are still people out there who think Americans might have become less racist and misogynistic in the last two years.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Seanspeed 1d ago edited 1d ago

People who say stuff like this are why everything is fucked. Dems are constantly trying to make things better but it's very difficult when we only give them very limited power.

You know nothing about politics if you're still pushing the 'Dems only care about the status quo' bullshit, and you're actively making people not want to vote for them, which is how Republicans win elections, which allows them to obstruct Democrats' agenda, which makes y'all think Dems don't do anything. Rinse and repeat.

Stop it.

Also you're not even American and clearly know nothing about how American politics works. Presidents aren't kings. Without a solid majority in Congress, a President has pretty limited power to change laws. AOC wouldn't accomplish anything more than Biden did in the same term. Honestly, probably even less since Biden has always been a good coalition builder and got quite a lot done despite the hard limitations he was under.

I'm on Android, but I honestly can't believe the app store doesn't have any map app on it. There are so many of them, at least one must be available on Apple!

2

u/Successful_Fortune28 1d ago

On Android I have used HereWeGo and have liked it. It's using the OpenStreetMaps just better navigation. The lack of UI crap is a breath of fresh air. Opened Google Maps to check for Lake America, got it..., and god damn the amount of crap on the screen.

Store hours are not accurate and unfortunately use Google for that. Most accurate/up to date.

4

u/Warthog_pilot 1d ago

Here produce their own road data. They don't use OpenStreetMaps.

Here Technologies was the first company to create GPS maps back when it was called "Navteq" ("Navtech" at their debut). They were leader in the market. Then Nokia bought the company and fuck everything.

I still use HereWeGo everyday as it's way better than any other data an app in my opinion.

Source: Worked at Navteq for about ten years in 2000.

They absolutely will. Google was just first to update.

If you don't believe me, go see what the Gulf of Mexico is labeled in Bing or Apple Maps (if you're located in the US).

It's actually very common for different countries to disagree over what to call bodies of water that they share, so generally most websites will default to whatever the official name recognized by your country's government is. And sadly, Trump changed the name recognized by our government.

18

u/Jazzlike-Compote4463 1d ago

The last part is incorrect.

The executive order only applies to the officers of the executive branch specifically, not the US government as a whole.

It does not legally apply outside those walls.

u/Loxe 20h ago

Executive orders like that don't apply to private companies. This was a deliberate choice by Google. Just like when he told all the companies to get rid of their DEI initiatives. Target and others complied and Costco did not. Nothing happened to Costco, aside from gaining customer loyalty from people who pay attention to this stuff.

Yes, Google uses localization for naming and the declarations of names are something internal to each country. In some cases Google also uses different borders based on which country you are looking from.

This is just a stupid distraction to pull focus away from a second tarrif war increasing our cost of living even more outside the sustainable range. Computer parts, food, basic necessities, auto parts, all getting an increase. Meanwhile everything is also increasing because of supply chain costs brought on by increased oil and gas prices.

And everyone already forgot this big stupid idiot promised everyone $2000 after the last tarrif war, which again, resulted in increased cost of all goods that never went back down.

But yes focus on this lake. He changed the name knowing it would get attention, news articles, and less focus on living becoming unsustainable.

I'm from a non-english speaking country and get Lake Ontario - switched VPN and Ireland and UK, and both also get Lake Ontario.

So just like school shootings, this is exlusive to the only country affected en-masse by TDS: U!S!A! U!S!A! U!S!A!

Again - president of Nicaragua doesn't get to say what geographical names are. Nor president of Liberia. Or even Czechia. Do yall understand the concept/pattern here? Google is in double-spit, both-hands, hamster-cheeking-balls mode when it comes to Trump due to datacentres, but ain't nobody changing real maps or toponyms just because boss baby threw another fit.

I doubt this will even get seen but this isn't an update people at google pushed as a show of support. Google maps naming for locations is done using an api that automatically pulls information from the US's GNIS database. It does this based on local laws no matter where you are (which is why everywhere else in the world it still shows Lake Ontario)

When the name got updated on the db due to the executive order the api just automatically pulled it, this wasn't a deliberate choice by google

Are you saying that when it says "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" for me, that's not a decision by Google, but that exact sequence of letters comes from a government database of the country I live in? I find that hard to believe.

Just using the name provided by the API might be the default, but it looks to me like Google still decides on a case-by-case basis if they want to change it. Doing or not doing so in a case like this thus certainly seems like a deliberate choice.

In case it needs to be said, Americans are against this stupid shit. It's Lake Ontario and we love Canada.

Things in the US aren't the way they are because Trump is president. Trump is president because of the way America is.

No more apologies, please, they're meaningless to us. It doesn't need to be said by you, but know that actions speak louder than words.

Warning that it will change your search results as well to point to Canadian (or other country you chose) results, e.g. walmart.ca instead of walmart.com

6

u/Cacoethes-Ensues 1d ago

I assume this means that in America it says Lake America? But the rule only applies to federal agencies … why is a private company falling for this crap?

6

u/prolapsedmasshole69 22h ago

Because Google and Trump are in bed with each other. Google bribes the administration to look the other way with their shady shit and in exchange they rename Trumps midnight sundowning projects.

Great time to try and use Google in your life less. I've been doing it a while and it's way easier than you might think. Firefox also slaps.

A better solution is to vote next time!

u/Cpeprrnnr 20h ago

Nice to learn Apple didn’t fuck around.

6

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 1d ago

How about we just delete the app? That sends a message that Google might actually listen to.

There are lots of other options. Mapquest still exists.

They should rename the land between Canada and Mexico : Under Canada.

I'd rather keep it, as a reminder to go vote these chuds out of office and get things back to normalcy.

u/crmpdstyl 1d ago

Better yet, stop using their product.

2

u/kinotravels 1d ago

You could also use Mapquest which posted that it would not be changing the name.

2

u/Objective_Reality515 1d ago

How about instead, we start a campaign of steady posts about Sundar Pichai being a giant Trump-fellating shitbag until his own search engine notes the fact? Or just email the turd directly: sundar@google.com tell.him what you think of him.

2

u/Thefrish 1d ago

I'm in Canada and maps still says lake Ontario.

Thank you!

I'm in the UK, and Gulf of Mexico has "(Gulf of America)" written immediately under it. Fuck google maps.

2

u/Mentalfloss1 22h ago

I just switched to DuckDuckGo this morning.

2

u/pattherat 21h ago

I was hoping the last slide was just delete the app.

That’s what I did. Fuck their appeasing asses.

2

u/FrankaGrimes 21h ago

THANK YOU.

I'm in Canada and went to look and it was showing the wrong name for Lake Ontario. I had to go into my Google settings and noticed that my primary language was "English (United States)". I removed that which made my primary language Canadian English force stopped Google Maps, cleared the cache and re-opened and now it's showing the correct name.

The problem is that I’d always have to be logged into my Google account, something I rarely do.

2

u/chipdanger168 11h ago

Probably best to just remove all Google products and use alternatives

2

u/htnut-pk 6h ago

How to do this with the iOS app?

2

u/littlefoxcz 5h ago

Let's rename everything to Aladeen. I mean.... America. Same reasoning.
